Liz & the Blue Bird book's premise is too black & white.
Barring death, there are very few reasons why folks would separate for good, not even a children's book should be that unnuanced.
Nozomi was correct that the blue bird could continue to visit but not for the dogshit reason of a happy ending, but for the mere fact that when folks who care about each other get separated they always try to find a way to keep in contact.
But alas, fiction usually has arbitrary conflicts.
The movie doing this so-called twist that both Mizore & Nozomi encapsulate both Liz & the blue bird isn't enough nuance added, & like someone said, soaring like the 2 birds flying together.
I doubt NozoMizo fully opened up to each other, as the last scene showed; yes it should be gradual but their miscommunication was too terrible before.
I like NatsuYuu's banter but their miscommunication is also terrible.
Nozomi's flute kouhais are so vapid.
Are there really genki flute, gloomy double reed, etc stereotypes?
So there's a gloomy ditz & a genki ditz & they're supposed to be friends.
Basically, this was a continuation of Mizore & Nozomi's fallout since before Season 2.
These walking on eggshells interactions happen everywhere but seem to especially happen in Japan due to their hyperpoliteness — easily promote the cheery (vapid) things but usually downplay &/or misdirect the serious things because hyperpoliteness & hypercohesion are paramount, utter dogshit!
NozoMizo reunited in S2 but never had a heart-to-heart hence their miscommunication continued till now.
Mizore still doesn't understand Yuuko lambasting her for not relying on Yuuko, since other people besides Nozomi are interested in her.
Nozomi basically thinks Mizore wants to be alone so she doesn't want to get in her way.
Mizore feels insignificant around Nozomi because Nozomi is an extrovert with many friends, & ironically Mizore ignores the other people trying to be her friends.
Mizore probably still doesn't get that the 3 double reed kouhais genuinely look up to her.
Natsuki annoyed me a bit here, she tried to stop Yuuko from being frank with Nozomi, Natsuki has done that crap before (despite her heart-to-heart with Kumiko).
& Reina was correct to be frank with Mizore.
Sure Mizore is great at oboe since she's heavily focused on it but she only shines when she's high on Nozomi; as I've said since S2, Mizore is far too dependent on Nozomi, her 3 main friends overcoddle her.
Yes, Mizore should be helped but she shouldn't be treated as frail.
HibiEupho has just been a series of folks learning to be open with each other, especially pairs — Kumiko & Reina, Kumiko & Mamiko, Kumiko & Asuka, Kumiko & Natsuki, Haruka & Kaori, etc, & now perhaps Mizore & Nozomi.
Some pairs came to mutual understandings — Reina & Yuuko, Reina & Kaori, Kumiko & Yuuko, Hazuki & Shuuichi, Kumiko & Nozomi, etc.
Then there's been 1-sided openness — Yuuko to Mizore, Aoi to Haruka, etc.
Nozomi & her peers actually had a very legitimate reason to quit the band, which hasn't been fully revealed in the anime yet.
I really don't think Nozomi nor Mizore understood Yuuko's appeals to them due to both their ditziness, especially to each other. & Natsuki shouldn't promote peace for peace sake. I don't mind Yuuko's tsun (rudeness), since she was correct to be angry. This Nozomi X Mizore ditziness was going for a whole year & still no progress. Yes Yuuko should explain calmly but folks should also have Mental Fortitude to handle intense dialogue. If anything, Natsuki should've told Yuuko to tell Nozomi what she thinks but remain calm.
But there's also some favouritism there, Natsuki X Yuuko are in denial of liking each other the most — vitriolic best buds; but Natsuki also looks up to Nozomi & Yuuko wants to protect Mizore, so basically Yuuko was trying to rebuke Nozomi on Mizore's behalf & Natsuki blocked it on Nozomi's behalf. |
