This was a really good start. Got me hooked from the getgo. I really want to find out more about this world and how things work there. I don't mind the furry too much either.

Such a shame that a decent series like this was locked behind Netflix's silly model

----------------------------------------
Raw is up on Netflix Japan.

We got some CGI but on most parts, I think it's done well for this anime. There's a bit of violence in this but I had expected it like from the manga. One thing noticable about this show is the particular character chemistry between difference species. I think that's going to be a big selling point in the series to see how characters develop.

Seems like a solid start.

The violence is the best part, you telling me it’s gonna stop

Im digging it and the animation aint that bad. I also like that they are not just animals that stand up like humans and they actually have their traits. The murder mystery is enough to keep the show going while having all the other school drama. The characters are pretty interesting and it seems that elk is a big dick and I like how haru had some sass and good combacks.

That was more impressive than I would have thought, The progression flows like opening the tap, smooth. I barely even notice that this is cgi.

The lives on wild life are never easy. This show trying hard to portray that kind of thing into some popular type of show: The Academy.

Making all kind of animal interesting were their interaction. Their habit were natural, albeit its the best making them still looks like half human. Still, in one episode, Beastar can satisfied my curiosity into such a nice method, very well played there. Making all the scenery felt like a normal academy element, like a clubs, dorm and the environment, even the bullying events make all of them feels like human thingy. The portraying in the first impression really good, and i just hope the rest should be better at all. Such a nice time watching this, while others show kinda bored to me.

Using a gray wolf, as a star of the show must be the best for this show too. Since i kinda like that type of animal, rather than the others animal. Thats it. So far, so good. Lets see how the community handle the worst situations, and i will judge their nature in a long journey through this unique show.

Holy crap, that was awesome :0

The animation looks a bit 3D, as though its CGI and not drawn.

But it still looks awesome and the dubbed voice acting is fantastic.

Wow! That was way more serious than I expected it to be. Pretty an impressive start. It will take me some time to take the whole anthropomorphic animals concept seriously, though. Kep finding myself chuckling a bit whenever a new species appear.

Now that I finished the manga, I thought I should watch the anime and prepare for Season 2. And the voices really are how I imagined.

That was good. Nothing much else needs to be said other than that.

Wolf guy has a split personality? Or are they just wanting us to think he's part bad guy? (DON'T reply to me with the answers. No spoilers.)

Hey usually i don't really like CG in Anime, but somehow this just works...

So, Carnivore & Herbivore huh, some Discrimination and Bullying in school life just like IRL...

Interesting, looking forward to next episode..

Rewatching this season since I wanna be mentally fresh and ready for the second season airing next month.

This first episode was good. I loved the CG featured in this show and when it comes to the designs and how it fits with the show, its actually more impressive to me than with Land of the Lustrous' animation. The cinematography was quite theatrical and spectacular with great lighting too to match the tone and atmosphere wonderfully. Only thing that this episode struggled with animation wise was the actual frame rate. Needs to be more smoother and quicker, but the foundation is well done with a lot of effort put into it.

The story had a simple premise, showing a civilized society of sorts with animals wearing school uniforms here and attending school together, with tension between herbivores and carnivores for various reasons, like when it comes to safety or their position on the 'school hierarchy' or in a normal world, the food chain of the school really. It's an interesting twist to a regular slice of life-level anime and adds the psychological undertones that is the society itself and how different species act with and against each other.

We even get introduced to some characters, the three main ones being Legoshi, Louis and Haru. Haru's side of the story was separated from Louis and Legoshi until the very end where Haru seemingly concedes to Legoshi's desires due to how weak and frail she was and how carnivores can easily dominate someone like her and even herbivores and in general everyone else tries to exclude her anyway. Legoshi though held her and almost hugged her from the back in the end in a nice cliffhanger.

The plot hasn't really kicked into gear yet, just a bit of an introduction to the kind of world that the animals are living in and the relationships that are present in that school between species. A good start.

P.S: The opening song by ALI may have been oversaturated and replayed to death, but its still a good song for me. And the music in general has complemented the show really nicely, especially the jazzy side given the whole theatre arc.

Even though its CGI, they did a great job using it!
Really like the look of some scenes, specially the darker ones.
Can't help but feel this is a darker Zootopia Lmao.

A hell of an inviting episode. I feel like I'm gonna end up really loving this.
The interactions and levels of hostility between herbivores and carnivores and even members of the same category is a very appealing concept, especially in today' society, seems like a rotoscoped version of our cruel reality.

i love it. i love everything: the impeccable soundtrack and animation is amazingly fluid. i was a bit hesitant to start this because of how different it is compared to what i usually watch, but the first episode proved me wrong and i cant wait to watch more.

Not too bad of CGI and the story looks interesting so far with the class differences between herbivores and carnivores at school (reminiscent of zootopia movie).

Getting used to the protagonists being animals didn’t take as much time as I anticipated. I’ve never seen an anime with a animal-centric cast. The plot seems interesting so I’m excited to see how the drama unfolds. We were left with a cliffhanger and I’m just ready for it. I really like everything I’ve seen so far.

Nice start. So a student from the drama club is murdered by a carnivorous student(might be a bear or something judging by the ears) and right from the first episode there is an obvious tension between the herbivores and carnivores. Legoshi seemed mostly meek throughout the episode... except when he encounters Haru, the school outcast(and also regarded as a slut by the students I guess. But it's not really her fault since people see her as prey it as someone to be protected). Well I think the second episode will get sexual for sure and I don't look forward to it.

oh wow what a looked of overcooked rehashed preachy nonsense from Netflix, who's hemorrhaging subscribers because they can't do anything BUT shit like this
saw the score, went in blind, it's the worst thing i've ever seen.
dropped, but sadly not into a black hole like it, and Netflix's pedantic ass should be.

That was a brilliant introduction to the series. I had started Beastars before but only watched upto episode 6 or 7 or something like that. I do remember the important plot points but I guess it is better to watch from the start again.

I forgot just how good the first episode was. Gives us a fantastic introduction to the world.

That was nice!

I liked how all characters had varied personalities and not just archetypes based on herbivores/carnivores, or their species (We've already seen 2 rabbits with very opposed personalities).

I just thought that Legoshi is going to eat Els but I knew that he was going to be nice when he give a love letter to her. The letter belongs to Tem who got devour by student. Rouis looks pretty scary when he struggles Zoe's face, I thought he looks kinda hot but he scares me cuz of his up close shot of him being angry at Zoe. And then there was Haru, she's just a sweet little rabbit but now Legoshi was going to devour her cuz of her scent.

Probably my third time watching this show/ season. The first time I really liked the show, the second time as well, so now I'm curious what I think of it like 3 years later while also giving reviews. Good episode! Sets up the general world pretty well, VERY interesting world building and society dingus, and just beautiful animation and cinematography. 3D animation in anime is usually a hit or miss, and this show is definitively a hit. It looks beautiful. My only problem with this episode is that the death of Tem was accepted way too quickly, as if it was almost not shocking at all to the characters. Besides that really fun to rewatch.

Although jumping into this late, the first episode was pretty rough from a technical standpoint early on and sometimes a bit later with the models. I don't know if that's because the animation might've been rushed or it flew under the radar, but it definitely was a drag to watch this start. The characters are interesting and though the concept is already out there, the story doesn't detract anything from this episode. OK start to see and I'm happy to go binge the next episode!
