Ah, some of Kawaki's past revealed. Now I honestly feel bad for the kid as he seems to have went through some shit.

He has such a mean father. Really, no wonder he didn't grow up with a bright look on life after all the abuse. Not going to lie, I thought this episode was dark.

Kawaki's past. His dad was abusive and a drunk. Kawaki being called hollow and empty and (I don't remember the Kara guy's name ) but he became his new father and chose him as a vessel. I feel bad for Kawaki no wonder he doesn't trust anyone after all the things he has been through.
Edit: It was Jigen. I keep forgetting characters' names these days.

Man, fuck Kawaki's dad. No child deserves to grow up with that kind of abuse. Gets abused by his dad, got used the way he did by Jigen, and even the seemingly nice goldfish vendor was just trying to trick him so he could sell him off. No wonder Kawaki has trust issues, even though Naruto is genuinely trying to help him.

Also, I noticed some close-up shots of Jigen and Kawaki's faces where the animation looked noticeably different. It didn't necessarily look bad, but it certainly looked interesting.

Damn the animation looked truly superb, really liking the Kara arc so far.

Poor Kawaki, taking care of that terrible excuse of a abusive father to only end up being sold by him for some liquor money.

Poor Kawaki... I feel so bad for him. :( The animation of this episode was really good and seemed pretty dark. Loved the episode. What a shitty father. Looking forward to Naruto and Kawaki's relationship.

What I love about this episode is that it's a reminder being biologically related to someone doesn't necessarily make you an appropriate 'family'. Naruto is and would be a thousand times better father figure to Kawaki than his ain't worth sh*t of a person called 'dad'.

On another note: gorgeous visuals/animation!

Kawaki lifes must be full of adventure, and lot of metaphor. After a stray dog, Kawaki was likened to be a goldfish, eh? That was surely a rough childhood. I wonder how the hell Jigen's gang knew about that location. Too bad, Kawaki ex father didn't get a proper end fate. But, well, the depiction of those goldfish truly a well-worthed finisher play for this episode.

At the end, Kawaki changed father again. Naruto, must be the best dad for him. Can't wait to see his interaction with the new family xd.

I was expecting this to be really cliched and contrived, but it ended up making me feel really bad for Kawaki. Honestly, I don't care about any seasonal anime right now, because Boruto is absolutely rewarding us for waiting this long. XD

Anytime it's the evening or dawn in Boruto, I swear the visuals just skyrocket in quality. XD
I'm not complaining, regardless. Boruto looks surprisingly good for a long-running anime.

Man Boruto has been knocking it out of the park lately with these episodes. Today felt like a classic naruto flashback episode. The use of the clownfish as a coping mechanism for Kawaki and their creativity with implementing the fish as visuals was beautiful.

Today may have had a lot of anime original stuff, but again it was necessary to flesh kawaki and his father out. To explain why he’s so apprehensive to strangers, why he can’t really trust people even when they’re kind to him, etc. The guy who turned out to be a trafficker really disappointed me even as an external viewer, so I can only imagine how kawaki would’ve felt.

I found that episode very meh compared to the other episodes.

I mean, I understand this episode is filler to give backstory to Kawaki's character and to explain some of his actions in the previous episodes. I did feel bad for how his deadbeat father treated him like he was trash or something. At least he went with Jigen where he was semi-safer and it worked out since he ultimately found a father figure in Naruto, someone who knows what it's like to be considered nothing or a bother.

That was good. Watched the last two eps back to back and it left me feeling pleased. I liked the scence with the diaoulge about answering a question with a question which was followed up with another question. Mmmhmm, clever play. Probably beyond an abused child's understanding. But the dialogue and what has been played out this last two weeks shows this show continues to bring the big guns when we need serious character driven story content! Waking up in hospital with Naruto waiting. Hopefully our main guy Naruto can emphasise with the youngling and from his point of view its hopefully hella better than waking up chained in some research facility!

Kawaki's dad is absolute human refuse, this was a beautifully done episode and honestly, it didn't feel contrived to me at all. The animation was wonderful, they're really doing a wonderful job of layering Kawaki in the anime right now.

That was interesting, they expanding the backstory a lot from the Manga.
I like it.
Also some of the close up shot was done really well...
Artstyle just Gorgeous...

Damn Kawaki childhood was rough.
That analogy with Golden Fish, that was a good one

That ending scene as soon as Kawaki wake up, Naruto said the same lines just like Jigen...

I swear that OST in the beginning reminds me of Final Fantasy 7's Aerith's theme.
Aerith's Theme
It's good to see episodes like this that flesh out what we aren't able to see in the manga. Kawaki's stealing the show and I don't mind that right now since the anime has been leading up to his arrival.
Notice: I read most manga in Japanese now so I'm not sure where you can read in English. Sorry in advance.

I love the art in this episode. And Kawaki's backstory is actually a nice addition to the story-- didn't get that in the manga.

Kawaki's backstory would fit in well with Naruto - it was pretty much a given in the original show that a ninja had a tragic past. Since the young characters of Boruto have it easy in peacetime and good parents, Kawaki stands out.

The goldfish symbolism was great.

I actually liked this episode. I noticed I'm one of the only folks who's thinking, "Ugggh, now we're in the manga canon." I have no attachment to the manga, so I admittedly feel like they way they've been putting it into the anime kinda disrupts the anime canon's flow, so I've just kinda been like "ew. Here we go." In addition to that, I haven't been too fond of Kawaki. He's kinda just been some kid who shows up, obnoxiously doesn't trust anyone, doesn't listen to anyone, and is just super strong. He's not the most entertaining character on the surface to me at least. However, getting to know more about his mindset has been really helpful in understanding who he is, what he's about, what he's thinking, and so on. So yeah, I liked this episode.

Hey, that was genuinely a pretty good episode!

Kawaki's seriously had it rough as expected. What a scumbag of a father he has!

Seeing some of the dots finally match up now is cool. And God, Jigen's scary...

Change in artstyle for the ep definitely gives it a unique feeling too, I wonder if they'll switch back to this every now and then in future episodes.

Usually no matter how tragic thier pasts they usually had parents or parent figures who cared about them even if they did a crap job of showing it. Cough
cough. Kawaki, was literally unwanted and unloved from the start.

Wait, did I click on wrong anime? This is Boruto right? No way Boruto just had this level of traumatic story. I must be having a nightmare.
Kawaki is still a good kid, but he worked hard everyday to be physically and mentally abused and denied food. Someone who actually seemed like a savior in my eyes (who he rejected) ended up just being a human trafficker. Even with all this being true, his main PTSD flashbacks are from IV taking him, NOT all that, leading that even more extreme trauma followed that extreme trauma.
He's in good spot now, and he is a good kid, so will come through and likely integrate, but will take a bit of time. He's been through so much!!!

I rated this 1/5 (hated it) because doesn't feel like Boruto, felt like was watching a worse (sadder) version of Naruto with that sad story. The Naruto saying he's safe now didn't help either because even him saying that is triggering/traumatic. While I hated this episode, I'm looking forward to Kawaki gaining life.
