----------------------------------------
This should be an interesting little series. Especially since I'm reading Ad Astra - Scipio to Hannibal manga right now, so this fits right along with that and will provide some other details of this time period even though this manga's focus will be on Archimedes. But yeah, I've been really into these historical mangas lately and reading up a lot about the Pubic Wars, the Roman Republic, and Carthage. Really interesting stuff, so this should be cool to see how Archimedes contributed to the war effort with his inventions and genius, even if some of this will be heavily fictionalized.
So far, good first chapter. My only complaint is how the manga draws his eyes on some of the characters. He draws his eyes long and narrow with the pupils sometimes looking cockeyed and it can make the character look dumb. It kind of killed Hannibal's character design for me because of some of the panels. Makes him look an imbecile instead of a brilliant general.

I thought Hannibal's design was intentional. If it wasn't, then yeah that's bad design.

This is, in fact, not a mistake of the author but an intentional design choice, and it actually matches the historical records of Hannibal's appearance. I was also intrigued by this seemingly odd portrayal, so I went on to do a little research on the subject after I finished the chapter. As it turns out, Hannibal lost his right eye due to conjunctivitis when he crossed the Apennines in 217 BC, so a year before the battle of Cannae, which is depicted here.

So, not only was it not a bad character design choice (notice that Hannibal is the only character that appears cockeyed), but it was actually a neat little historical detail that I wouldn't know about had it not been for this manga. This kind of attention to detail is, in my opinion, one of the things that separate a truly great historical series. This guy is cooking.
