Damn, shit here we go again with the feels. Now, I'm sad. Very sad. They never deserve it. Too bad for him. RIP Gardar!

What can you make of that last scene where Gardar went home and finally saw his son, Hjalti? That implies that Hjalti already died(probably) and he was finally reunited with his father.

This is such a distressing episode. I so wanted Gardar to stay on the show. He's quite strong after all. They could use his strength against Canute and his army.

RIP Gardar. 😭

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Yeah the episode was good, but my god that piano that wouldn't stop playing in the background annoyed the hell outta me. Completely ruined the moment and was so distracting, like I wanted to have the feels but it was more annoyed rather than sad because the piano playing for ages

Nothing is more epic than two extremely skilled fighters duking it out against one another for their personal just causes whilst silently respecting one another's strength.
The fight between Thorifnn and Snake is short and sweet. Had Snake been a warrior just like any other Vikings, Thorfinn would've won. His fighting style, even without his daggers, is guaranteed to be able to out-manoeuvre anyone in close range. However Snake is a warrior from a far-off place, not only is he the fastest opponent Thorfinn has faced thus far, but his fighting style and swordsmanship with his shamshir sword are entirely unfamiliar to Thorfinn. I mean damn. That part where Thorfinn did the split and swept his leg was supposed to be the winning move, but Snake managed to counterattack as he fell and evaded swiftly afterwards like a badass. This fight sequence was awesome!

How did such a skilled fighter ended up guarding a farm
How did such a skilled fighter ended up becoming a slave

That's just the mystery of life. It's almost as if Ketil's farm is the place to reflect upon past actions and regain a newfound goal in one's life.

Gardar's sendoff with Anrheid is one of the saddest points of this arc in the manga, but the anime added several more original scene of his past with Arnheid and Hjalti, that shit made his departure that much more painful. Knowing that he was also a kind guy to begin with was also depressing. How long has he had to endure the torment that he's been put through as a slave. Hjalti is dead and their village is destroyed, if only Ketil manage to buy Gardar as his slave. Perhaps Gardar and Arnheid could live together once more, if not as free individuals, then as slaves. Life is not kind.

The fact that the dude who was introduced as a murderous Jesus lookalike used to be such dad with such a wholesome smile hurts. Sverkel's words to Snake from before suddenly hit a a lot harder—slaves truly are tragically unfortunate people. RIP

And nice to know Thorfinn's still got it

RIP Gardar, good luck Arnheid. I cried so much in this sequence. Damn it was painful.

I wonder what consequences Thorfinn and Einar will face, hopefully Ketil and Leif make it back in time.

I hate how slow this episode was. I know this is supposed to be a non-action packed season but that doesn't mean slowing down the pace of the entire show artificially and playing one stupid tune the entire episode. I'm not even sure if half of the crap in this episode was even canon.

I like how both Thorfinn and Snake acknowledged each other's ability during the fight.
Gardar's durability is crazy.

Fuck this show man, it shouldn't be allowed to be this good.

Obviously semi-spoiler alert (discussion thread):

The last half of the episode, good lord. And the very last scene on the cart when the horses slowly approach and the piano slowly comes to an end...was just pure masterful. Literally worthy of all the praise. Probably top 3 moments in all of Anime that I've personally watched, ever.

At least Gardar died happy and with his wife. He's now going to see his son. Implication is that they both passed on and went to Heaven. Hindsight was 20/20 for Gardar. He regrets everything. His quest for more iron wasn't worth it. It was never worth it.

the story writing, and just the atmosphere is much better than first season already, with the psychological standpoint of author getting more fleshed out.
