There's enough material to cover the whole festival, maybe winterbreak not sure about anything else.
Not sure how popular it is but if sales are good maybe.

Well, all I know is that this was called 'the most anticipated' because the light novels are quite popular in Japan. There's a good chance it would have a second season.

I feel like there is a good chance. The pacing seems pretty slow, so it feels to me like they are taking their time which would lead me to believe that a second season is quite likely. But who knows, it's all speculation.

But in a way it feels like this series should have had two cours to start with, because at the end of the day not that much has really happened so far.

Opening theme is from hitsujibungaku who also sang jujutsu kaisen ending theme. The value of the artist reflects value of the anime and the expectation is high... It should keep going for awhile with anime helping with gaining more fans on top of the novel/manga fans. At least that's what I hope!

Without a doubt, my n1 show this season, easily the best masterpiece made in a while, it's on a level of Frieren and Apothecary Diaries for me. I would be very surprised if it doesn't get season 2. Idk how it's rly doing in japan, but it should be highly successful imo. Quality of the show continues to be amazing from the start, amazing cast of characters and interactions, amazing writing. It has everything it needs to be successful enough for season 2. Idk if they are faithful enough to source material, but it seems amazing to me without lacking anything. I hope studio will keep making it.

@ajw215799 There's also the current state of the source material, studio availability and scheduling, and whether the producers/production committee even want to make another.

I think it really depends on a lot of factors, source material can easily be crossed off because it's got enough for more seasons, Studio Gokumi on the other hand isn't too large of a studio and may or may not have other projects getting scheduled for them to work on already. It won't nessicarily affect whether they decide to make another season but it definitely could delay it. The personal factor though definitely plays a part as I've seen plenty of shows that aren't that popular nor that well received get more seasons. People in control of the funding for a show could make it happen if they really want it regardless. Not only that but there's no way they don't do research to try and calculate how successful another season would be or how well received it would be.

But the most important one is how much money the show makes, even if a sequel isn't desired, if a show is a big hit in the sense that it's very successful financially then it'll get one. Money is always going to make nearly everything else irrelevant if there's enough of it, for major hits like Demon Slayer or JJK there's enough money being made from those shows that making a sequel isn't a decision, it's a requirement. For something like this, even if it's financially sucesssful it depends of how much. It doesn't just need to make more money than they spent making the show, it needs to make a LOT more than that to tip the scales significantly. If it doesn't it depends more on the personal factor and how well they predict making more will go.

There's too many factors that could be at play to know for sure but I think given the MAL reception alongside the choice of staff to work on this plus the "guesstimated" budget this show got for it's first season I'd say it's highly likely.

Edit: whoops, sorry man I meant' to send 2 different messages, and only reply to you with that bit at the top, while sending the bottom part as a different message. MAL interface is slightly confusing sometimes xD.

1) If season 2 is already planned, then season 2 will be announced on 4/5 Oct on the day of release date of last episode.

2) I don't think sales would damage that much because season 1 is already airing.

3) If anime performed well in Japan, announcement for season 2 would take atleast 1-2 years, depends on production house.

4) Sometimes Manga/Light novel sales alone enable the production of season 2 (Atleast season 1 recovers enough money to guarantee of not in loss for season 2).

5. As mentioned in 3, sometimes other studios picks anime to produce next season which may take longer time to release.

On this, I think that season 2 is highly possible due to several reasons:
-LN are very popular in Japan and thanks to this anime they are being bought even in other countries.
-As far as LN go the main story is already finished and author is currently writing side-story (that's what I have seen from LN overviews). There is enough material from the main story for at least 2 more seasons.
-Anime is also very popular in Japan, it's among top 10 or even 5 in all the lists I have seen.
-Looking at what shows already got season 2 confirmed (Clevatess, There is no way I will be your lover..., Sakamoto Days) I would say that Silent Witch has a great chances of getting season 2, same chance as Fragrant Flower anime as well.

In the end what it would really boil down is the studio. Just remember Frieren and how we got really lucky with season 2 as that studio is rarely doing second seasons. I hope that will not be the case here.

My guess would be yes. The anime adapts the first three volumes of the light novel, almost one to one, including the last episode. I've noticed that in cases where a second season is not even considered, the last episode will often stray a bit from the source material in order to "wrap up things nicely", which is not the case here. In fact, the last episode is not even too interesting to begin with, but is an important for understanding things later on, so if you plan a second season you can't skip it.

It's an interesting series, but the pacing is very very slow.

Monica's development seems to be going in a loop... where it looked as if she's progressing forward, they pull out the "Flashback card" over and over and revert her progression back. (IE: her father being killed for researching something, old friends, etc etc)

Her entire personality and situation haven't changed at all since episode 1... she haven't really done anything different for the entire season 1, lol.

If anything, most times it's just about Monica getting bullied... by jealous students, old friends and even friends she thought was friends...

.

So yea... in a way, this series felt like a slice-of-life 4koma style. Since Monica's adventure seems to jump around from school to outside of school, then back in school...

The way the pacing and storyline is done can make people lose interest. The main thing that's keeping people in is the "cute little girl that I want to protect" Monica.

.

If this series gets a second season, I can pretty much already see it'll most likely be doing the same thing as season 1.

Which means if a good amount of Japan viewers (since they're the only audience that matters if a series gets more season or not, other countries don't matter) finds the series storyline a bit boring, it might not get a second season, at most it might be 3-5 years later like most lesser popular series. (when the actual popular series gets their runs first)

@amlg I would hardly say that she has looped at all though. She's extremely shy, but went from not even being able to talk to other humans to somewhat standing up against the person who traumatized her to stay in the mountains for 3 years. Granted it may be since she started from an abysmally low spot, but she's done more progression in 12 episodes (4 months?) than most shy protagonists do over multiple cours.

I actually NEED the 2nd season 🙏🏻

edit: Asked grok for more information about this season performance.

Light Novel Popularity:
The source material is a bestseller; Volume 1 topped Japan's weekly light novel sales charts in July 2025, and Volume 3 recently hit #40 on Bookwalker's global rankings. The series has 10+ volumes available, providing ample content for at least one more season (likely covering Volumes 5–9).

Physical Sales:
Blu-ray/DVD Volume 1 sold 3,002 copies in its first week (October 2025), with 2,567 from the limited edition—a respectable figure that signals strong domestic fan support and often correlates with greenlit sequels for mid-tier anime.

Expect an announcement in the next 3–6 months, potentially by spring or summer 2026—often tied to events like AnimeJapan or tied to light novel Volume 11's release. Decisions are typically made post-finale based on streaming data, Blu-ray sales (ongoing through early 2026), and fan feedback, with production taking 12–18 months. A release window would likely land in late 2026 or early 2027 to align with standard anime cycles.

@botaz The ending of the anime is the ending of volume 3 of the LN. The reason it's "very open" as you describe it is because virtually nothing is skipped. The last episode is a bit slow, maybe even a bit boring, but it is at least partially needed to understand things in later volumes.

BD sales isn't as important these days, but I saw a Japanese comment saying Silent Witch was #8 in BD sales overall this year and #2 for non-sequel animes.

The LN also won #1 (Tankobon category) Kanorano awards, which is arguably the biggest general popularity poll in Japan, so I see a lot of Japanese people confident that there is going to be another season (granted there's no guarantees).
