Great end to a great manga. For a second there, I thought it was going to have a tragic ending. Given the manga's dark tone in general, that actually wouldn't have surprised me. But, I'm glad it had a happy ending overall. Those two deserved a break!

I gotta applaud Mars for avoiding the pitfalls of the shoujo genre or, like Beatnik posted in his review, transcending the trappings of it. So many shoujo titles are the same thing over and over again: naive, innocent girl meets perfect guy and then they spend the whole time wondering if the other likes them until the very end of the story. Not to mention they're usually not very realistic. Mars was, on the other hand, and the psychological part of it really enhanced the characters and story. Anyway, I'll be sure to look into more works by the author. She's very talented. 9/10

That moment with Sei was too much... I get goosebumps, ugh.

This was a great ending, beautifully balancing Rei and Kira's love together with their dreams of racing and painting -- both dreams of which they'll support one another in achieving as husband and wife.

My worries about Rei putting racing over his love for Kira were dispelled immediately in this volume. Then the volume ends with Rei being more appreciative of his life after his near-death experience, and he plans on reaching old age together with Kira. "It's so great to be alive."

Both of my critiques at the end of volume 14 were resolved with this final volume!

All in all, I am happy with how this manga turned out: a wonderful romance.

I did have some issues here and there with the story, but I won't be negative here. It was a very good 8/10 manga for me.

Edit: Also, I just want to mention how Mr Kashino, the father, might be my favorite character in the manga. This man loved Rei as his own son so much, even if they weren't true father and son. The way the two of them ended up reconciling was beautiful. Kashino wanted what was best for Rei the whole time, and was always there for his son even when Rei didn't know it. Mr Kashino's fatherly love for Rei was possibly the most touching aspect of the manga for me.

I'm very impressed by this manga and would've happily kept on reading if it was twice the length that it was. There were some loose ends that I felt was not ever tied up or addressed again, but I found it more a reflection of how messy life can be and enough things came together that the end was satisfactory regardless. The relationships and characters aren't without their flaws, but Fuyumi Souryo's execution of the art and the writing is so strong that it would've taken a lot more for the series to lose me - although I think Kira's story could've been further explored than what was given. Rei's development felt more active and outshone hers in comparison.

His review set off my alarm bells with the first sentence. It came across as patronizing and I question his credibility when the dude's barely read any shoujo (unless I'm wrong and he doesn't record everything that he's read in his manga list). "Mars" is really good, but I can list off plenty of other shoujo series that "escape the trappings of the genre" in a similar way.

@thatPinkSpider Yeah, the structuring of that scene with the shot to the door then his feet then the huge dark panel solely dedicated to him when Sei appears was haunting. Damn!

(And it is a shame that there isn't an anime adaptation.)

A masterpiece. I loved it. Admittedly, it was a bit slow at first. Not exactly slow per se. It was a nice 7/10 manga until a certain point. I believe it was around volume 5 or something. There was a turning point where I just couldn't put it down. I was invested. A true masterpiece!
