It felt so indescribably nostalgic to watch all of it once again. Seeing the characters and their Digimon reminded me of the good old days I used to love so much as a kid and that's quite a sweet feeling, to be honest. Concerning the anime itself- you have to keep in mind that it's a '99 show and the visuals will look accordingly but I didn't mind that aspect at all. It was a solid story with values perfect for kids or young teenagers and Digimon did its job outstandingly.

Couldn't resist watching the last episode today!

Loved the teammwork!

Oh gosh, the kids were so cute getting all excited about staying there for summer vacation (for 110 years rofl). <3 I wouldn't want to leave either (now that the bad stuff was taken care of).

I didn't fully start crying until Palmon finally showed up. @_@

So excited to watch Adventure 02 next. It's the one I remember seeing the most of when I was young.

Really happy to have fully seen Digimon Adventure now!

I felt a little dumb tearing over the goodbyes, but when Palmon showed up I just couldn't help it. I'm glad that my childhood memories weren't making this better than it was. Digimon is a great show with some incredibly well fleshed out characters. I'm glad I rewatched it.

I love this show. Even without the nostalgia factor it holds up well. It says something when I was near tears at the final episode. Such a lovable cast of characters.

This show can be pretty much split into four parts :

The Devimon/Black Gear Arc
The Etemon/Crests Arc
The Myotismon/Real World Arc
The Dark Masters/Apocalymon/Ending Arc

I must say that it has been an extremely impressive ride throughout the four arcs. The show started off somewhat childish, with childish interactions between the kids and childish themes and the whole feel was extremely childish overall in the Devimon arc and the Etemon arc. However, as the children matures as characters, we can also see that the series takes on a darker tone as it develops the themes and becomes a more mature show. The central theme of believing in each other, never giving up hope and basically what each of their crests stand for was very well done especially towards the ending, such as when Yamato had to undergo his inner psychological battle. The story on the surface is simple, but if you look at it from the characters aspect, it is a beautiful tale about how eight grade school kids grew up after their adventure in the Digimon world.

The first two arcs were mediocre at best, not only due to its childishness but also because I did not really enjoy how episodic it was, and I would only give it a 6/10. However, the last two arcs were brilliantly done and deserve a 8/10, and the brilliant, bittersweet ending that had me teary-eyed was the icing on the cake. The ending was also extremely well done, and not something that we usually see in a children's show like this. Considering this is a show for children, Digimon is truly a very, very impressive show.

7/10 overall for me.

Aww, I'm a sucker for these heart-warming episodes. Totally loved how Izzy just came out and said "I love you" to Tentomon ^^ And I loved his reaction too.

Tai and Agumon were acting as if it was just an ordinary day between them. I love the tight bond they share.

TK and Patamon got me a little misty. Those two are so cute <3 I'm gonna miss TK as a little tyke, I'm not to fond of him as a teenager in the second season. For some reason I don't sense the same TK charm.

I love the whistle Kari gave Gatomon. But I can't help but wonder what would happen to it if Gatomon decided to digivolve into Angewoman. I bet the whistle would break.

I was hoping Matt would say more to Gabumon but I guess the old harmonica is also serves as a good farewell.

Sora and Biyomon played out just like I expected it to. Those two are like sisters with the way they love and cherish each other.

Joe and Gomamon turned out a bit more awkward than I expected or would've liked. Still, I gotta say Gomamon is an awesome digimon and he really goes with a flow. Just what you'd expect from a water-type digimon.

Mimi had the worst good bye ever. Damn it Palmon, why'd you have to go and make Mimi cry >:( Palmon did show up at the very end but I didn't like the way they parted compared to the others.

Now with that out of the way let's talk about the series as a whole. My favorite arcs in order are:

1.) Real World Arc
2.) Devimon Arc
3.) Dark Masters Arc
4.) Etemon/Crest Arc

There's just something about the real world in digimon that appeals to me. Maybe it's the family sub-plots but the fact is that the real world arc was the best and most enjoyable for me.

My score for this anime doesn't change. It was an 8 when I saw it 10 years ago, and it's still at an 8 now. Pretty impressive that it's managed to keep it's score. Usually when I re-watch an anime I almost always drop the score.

The real world arc is my favorite as well. I loved the fact that the show brought the danger to the real world and proved that this was a serious problem, something a lot of kids shows tend to ignore. They're all like we have to save the world, but forget to show why the world is truly in danger.
The real world arc is the arc I remember from when I was a kid, especially since Kari and Gatomon were my favorite when I was a kid. I loved that the parents get in on the battle and everyone fights back against these really quite well organized Digimon oppressors.

Yet another person who loves the real world arc! You have good tastes Sasuke :)

I see your point. A lot of fantasy anime use the idea that the world is "in danger" but you never get a sense of how it affects the people in the real world.

I LOVE how the digi-destined's family's are involved in the real world struggle. In a lot of anime the kids just lie to their parents and save the world on their own with everyone remaining ignorant. The problem with that is the anime misses out on potential family and character development.

I kind of agree to a point. This was always a childhood favorite, but rewatching it when I'm older (and finally seeing the final episodes) kind of enlightens me to how cheesy and predictable it is. It's not bad and you know, I'm glad I rewatched it, but... I'm hovering between a 5/10 and 6/10 myself. It's somewhere between plain and good. But it's not poor and it still has a lot going for it. If I was judging based on episodes ~30 (first part of the Real World arc wasn't that special) to the end alone, I'd probably give it a 7/10 (very good on my scale). Unfortunately, it can't overcome the first 1/2 - 2/3 of the series.

This episode was full of so much emotion I actually want to watch Digimon Adventure 02 now just to see the main cast reunite with their Digimon. I was going to skip it, because even as a child I thought it was much worse than Adventure 01 and Tamers, but screw it.

Anyway, Kari's the best (and the cutest), and Agumon's digivolutions are the coolest of the main cast.

P.S. One more "you the mon/be a mon" pun and I would've had to quit the series prematurely.

I always wanted to rewatch Digimon as an adult and the announcement of a third season in Spring 2015 was a good reason to do so. I'm happy that I saw in just 5 days what I saw in 2 years as a kid. I still remember waiting for the next weekend to see the next evolution, not to mention some big cliffhangers, which now seem predictable, but were really thrilling to the eyes of a child.

I loved this last episode and the first season as a whole. I'm glad that the journey is not over yet, since Adventure 02 and the Digimon movies are up next.

Even though the camera's resolution was bad, I'll never forget the last picture. I always felt like I was there:

So Gennai never reverts back to his original form. That's sad, but at least he didn't force the children to find a way for him.

I do really love Digimon Adventures. That hole story about growing up, struggling with enemies and making friends... It's my childhood and teenage years too. Now, I'm 22 year-old-student, who still believes that somewhere there is Digimon World waiting for me to come. ;)

The final episode of Adventure was emotional. Bringing all characters to the roots and then showing how they developed within the series. Parting of ways was never easy to show... And without any hesistation I can say that the writers made it damn good... <3 I'll show my future children this anime. They need to know the classics!

That was a great last episode to a pretty great show. I watched a few episodes here and there when I was younger but this was the first time I properly followed it.

The show really is so much better than it ought to be, as a children's show based on some tamagotchi-like game. The characters and the writing is what makes the whole show a success. All characters feel distinct and they all have their own moments to shine and grow. I really liked how the overall tone of the episodes felt quite varied depending on which of the children were in focus in that specific episode.

But there are also some quite big flaws. I like the smaller digimon but most of the evolved forms look quite ugly. I also really dislike how they often don't look that similar to the their previous form, or that the different evolution forms don't seem to progress naturally.
For example, Gabumon's different forms go from standing on two feet, to four feet, back to two feet and then finally four feet again. It might not be the most important thing but it does really annoy me.

Speaking of evolutions, the evolution scenes get old really fast. It's the same animation used over and over, often many times in the same episode. It would be interesting to see how many minutes of these 54 minutes that are actually just watching digimon evolve.

Overall, it is one of the best shows for children that I have watched as an adult. Everything is very formulaic and the themes are very basic, but the execution of it all is as good as its get.

BearerOfHope said:

Yeah, there's no way i won't show this to my future family!
This show embodies everything that's good in ourselves. These children are almost ideal and the 8 of them represents just that, but in a more or less realistic way: they are courageous, they are friends with each other, they care for themselves, their digimon and their loved ones, they never lose hope (especially towards the end!).

Who can still have hope after being turned into chops of data in an infinitely dark place? Takeru, of course, and the chosen children!
Also, while at the beginning it seems like a kid's show, i am willing to believe many adults can enjoy it as well. The thematic turns out to be quite dark sometimes, and the way the kids solve their problems is admirable (even for adults, since many have lost their way or have "fallen into the dark cave" so to speak). The complex thematic is presented in a way i believe many people can enjoy it and the way the chosen children think about the problems they are faced is almost ideal. Their conclusions for the problems they have are understandable and i had to agree almost always, especially towards the end, where Taichi's "courage" is being put to test again, and he proves once again the kind of leader he is and why he was right.

I like so much this series i cannot give it an objective rating. For now, let's say overall a solid 9/10 at least.

By arcs:

- The Devimon/Black Gear Arc
It was a little slow and even sometimes childish, but the story was solid and well executed.
The part of the children having trouble with being without someone who cares for them, without adults, without beds, having to find and cook their own food, taking turns in watching each other, that was great. Even back then you can see they are really well educated and special.
I seriously wonder if Devimon and his black gears could have done anything to Etemon or the Dark Masters.
For all intents and purposes, this was a pilot test for the chosen children (as Gennai said) to see if they are worthy, and for Devimon, who wouldn't have ruled over anybody if he couldn't even beat adult digimons.
8/10

- The Etemon/Crests Arc
A lot of digimon lore was presented. A lot of additional info and the main idea behind their crests was very well done.
The crests findings are almost a side story, but well done and expands into each character's traits.
8/10

- The Myotismon/Real World Arc
This is where things start to get clearer about the danger that these evil digimon can do to both worlds and to the chosen children and their family.
This arc is also a turning point for the kids, where they stop complaining about having to fight, and actually start fighting not only for their lives (as before) but for their loved ones.
9/10

- The Dark Masters/Apocalymon/Ending Arc
Those guys were truly amazing enemies. All of them were tough enemies, and each one of them were defeated with a lot of effort and a bit of luck.
The evilness in these enemies made the kids even better than before.
Also the last remnants of doubt in the minds of the kids are all resolved in this arc, where they re-discover their traits again.
Apocalymon's concept is perfect. The idea behind the evolution process, how he portrayed himself (how mimi reacts to his auto-flagellation !) , the way he was defeated, it was very well done.
The last two episodes were the perfect ending for it, very well done, well thought, and emotional. Hell , i even cried a tear or two :')
9/10

Overall: 9/10

my apologize to anyone who can be annoyed by such a wall of text!

An alright end to a pretty good show.
The final battle was intense while it lasted, but ended pretty quickly. The rest wasn't stunning, but adequately wrapped up the show. Their farewells were decently emotional, and the race against the clock to get back home was nice.

As a whole, a pretty good show.

Good- Interesting plots, good fight scenes, mostly good characters, no filler.
Bad- Humor and emotion usually fall flat, high-stakes/epic eps don't really rock as much as, say, Pokemon, Tai and Mimi are annoying.

The start of "Butterfly" had me teared up a bit not gonna lie. Very emotional ending if only it didn't get countless sequels cashing in on its success.

The Devimon arc was meh (5/10), the Dark Masters was bad (4/10), but everything else was about as good as I expected it to be going into this rewatch (7-8/10). Rounded up to about 6.5/10 final score I guess (I'll just give 7 because muh childhood).

What a great scene the one of the Big Bang being neutralized!
(And the one of the reset of the digimon world. Of course)
For a moment I thought that Palmon would not really say goodbye to Mimi and the others...
This ending has touched me. I loved watching something that takes me back to my childhood!
(Although when I was little I never saw the anime in full, like now)
They finally did it; they overcame all adversities in both the digimon and human worlds.
(And stayed together most of the time!)
I will definitely continue watching what else the sequels have to offer.

I don't know why i randomly re watched this show that i didn't watch since childhood, randomly felt nostalgic for it. I have to say watched it subbed now really made a difference, they unfortunately skipped/censored more than i thought in the dub, and it didn't have the same feeling and lines in general. Especially the final boss actually made sense now. One of the most 'mature' children shows.
