I liked the tatami galaxy graphically and comedy wise but it was very repetitive and very very fast subs but this one looks even better to me, and could be a Best anime of the year candidate, hopefully it airs soon.

devilman is 2018 tho :/ unless you meant another movie
One of my favorite anituberisms was when people were saying Re:Zero was this intense deconstruction on anime tropes when it came out, and then years later when I got around to reading it it was just lolicon chuunige.

Yuasa needs to direct anime original. I still don't know he is good or overrated if he keeps directing an adaptation.

Why would he need to be the original creator to not be considered overrated? Different people excel at different things. Hes a director first and foremost. Anyway, he did Kaiba, Kemonozume and Kick Heart like the others said so you can judge for yourself.

Oshii is probably the only director that loves dogs. He thinks he's a dog himself.

That's right, its slime! It will dissolve your clothing slowly before my eyes!

Sometimes I just think that it's easier to make good anime if you only adapts good source material. What if Yuasa directs SAO? Can it be good?

We'll probably never know, but there are many cases of a good source material getting butchered in the adaptation so its not like its immune, I agree its easier to make something great out of a good source material but thats a pretty significant skill. I sadly havent read/seen both of any of his works so cant tell how much he changes but I like the end effect very much.
Regarding SAO? I think it would be at least funny :D

Good source material can get bad adaptation yeah like how people rant on Berserk 2016 and Rewrite, but can a bad source material be good adaptation? If one can improve the quality of a bad source material, now that's when they're the real deal.

The movie was really great! Definitely watching again when the subs are out.

Old message, but...

Setting aside the fact that he has directed several original anime, I'm absolutely tired of people acting like directing adaptations is somehow easier and less commendable job than directing originals. It's not about taking pages of original work and shoving them to the screen, you're still using a written screenplay as your baseline (usually written by someone else), no matter what you're working on. Adapting screenplay is literally what director does.
(On side note, I'd also like to point out that original Tatami Galaxy novel had only 4 timelines.)

That's true. Personally, I think he is one of the best directors in the industry currently.

I really would like to see another Kaiba, an anime directed, created and scripted by Yuasa.
