THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

An entertaining 80s chase movie (with all the needed ESPs, neon, flashy colours, night city, bunny girl, body horror and other nonsensical craziness of that time) delivering good action using a unique style, different enough from the common 80s round or realistic styles. A few moments, though, don't look as good.
The second part offers a surprising revelation but shows/mentions things doomed to stay mysterious because of the lack of screen time (ex: why is the city a closed space? are the characters clones/descendants of our contemporaries we see in a short sequence? ...). Apart from that, the 90 minutes are just right to follow this team of varied characters through what is told to us.
The music adds to the 80s atmosphere, the few songs inserted are funny.

Enjoyment: 5/5
Score: 6~7/10 (one point bump due to sheer fun factor)

What?! So, this was all a virtual fantasy offered to Raiden à la Philip K.Dick? Thus, explaining why they know its name, the beautiful ennemy woman magically falling for him and the "slogan" K says at the beginning ("they all want something real")?
Any thought out there?

@CodeBlazeFate If you need more of Mashimo's neon glows after Tylor.

I'll give it a 7/10. The aesthetic elements were very unique and I loved the neon colors throughout. Pretty odd movie to say the least. I loved some of the things this did visually, it truly had things I had never seen done before. Random watch that was kind of worth it I guess. All the characters were pretty damn fun, likable and it also had some legitimately funny moments.

Overall, it was pretty watchable. The OST was fucking dope.

The comedy really helped this out. This movie was so out there that had they tried to be super serious, it would have stifled the mood. Odd in some ways but pretty straightforward and sometimes fun.

Maybe, or perhaps they've been through it so many times it's just par for the course by the time the movie starts. Who knows.

To tell the truth, history has proved to be interesting, but unfortunately much has disappointed. The narrative has had interesting moments but also really boring and silly situations, the ending leaves me hesitant. A lost opportunity, one could define it, what a pity! Taste of eighties everywhere, that nostalgia!

I read the manga version many many years ago.....since then I forgot the name of that already, I tried to search without a clue for long. Once in a while, I came across with this anime version and recognized the plot and the characters. Thanks to the awesome Internet (and MyAnimeList), I could finally put my long-time search to an end.

This anime version is somehow different than the manga version, and I am not going to include so here.

And I want to say that, this Ai City anime kind of makes me like the bad guys more than the good guys, which is a rare case to me.

Despite the fact that Ai City was made in the 1980's, there were some revolutionary sci-fi ideas being added to make this a unique classic.

Lastly, I just want to mention again that, I was able to retrieve the manga name of Ai City, all because of my discovery of this anime version.

This might be the greatest trainwreck of the 80's ive seen, pure nonsense but was a nonstop escalation in batshit crazy moments that made the whole thing wildly entertaining.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I really like the movie. Quite a wild ride. Serious in parts and funny in others.

Most of it was well explained that I was able to understand what was going on.

Might have to watch it a few more times to understand the ending fully.

Definitely think people that like old anime as well as Sci-fi should check it out.

Score: 7/10

Campy beyond belief but in a sort of endearing way. Like this clearly wasn't written out ahead of time and it seemed like they were just throwing things on wall and went with whatever stuck but I still like it.

The visuals of this probably played a major part in swaying my opinion on this tbh. It feel like a B movie and seeing it as such I choose to excuse or outright ignore some things in this.

This actually remind me of a live action movie I saw when I was younger but I can't recall the name of. It was the same espers doing battle and strange scifi stuff premise with all this strange shit happening throughout.

Also was I the only one that thought Ai looked like a cross of Haman Karn and Elpeo Ple because that shit was on my mind the entire movie.

What the fuck was that ending? After everything is resolved, out of nowhere everyone is teleported to who knows where and the scene from the beginning of the movie appears again. That spoiled the whole movie, basically threw everything away after the ending.

Well yes this really has been quite the wild ride. The story reminds me of Akira as both feels like starts in the middle but simplistic enough to be able the grasp the characters' situation and later it turns into horror genre and too much weird designs. Overall the story was fine here considering the length of the film and could had been boring if not for the weird flairs and fast pacing style which were the main reason I could liked this and the other parts like the soundtracks and the design were the weakest part but the original manga's art didnt looked anything unique to begin with.

it was really good, the ending was a bit confusing, i mean, they were teleported back to the beginning of the story, but what does that mean? was the whole thing some kind of illusion? or maybe more like they got back to the beggining, in a similar situation that would develop different on account of the genetic alloy being no more? who knows, anyway it was very unique and enjoyable.

It was so bad. Especially that riot of colors would make you have an epileptic seizure. I watched it because it was an old anime, but I got really bored halfway through. It was bad enough that it was like a ridiculous series, with ridiculous music coming out of nowhere, but it was even worse that it just went straight to the point and couldn't explain it properly. The ending was completely ridiculous, what did you do, you said, emulating Neon Genesis Evangellion and making something like that, but instead of mechas, having cyborg-like people in it?
My eyes and head seriously hurt. Give me back my hour and a half. No, it would have been nice if it had been properly edited and explained. Because it was trying to tell something interesting. They tried to make a futuristic production with a cyberpunk theme, but they couldn't.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
