The typical morning of Nao Saeki living with his grandmother, he's quite the lazy bum at home, as compared to in school.

It's 3 days before the auditions, and both Aono and Saeki struggle with their supplementary classes, though the latter is much worse before because his family was German, as compared to his Japanese counterpart. But since the world of music has no need for languages, he can get along fine, amd Aono helps him out with his language deficiency. The rivalry of Aono and Saeki is interesting, but they're late and worse still, got caught by the maestro Ayukawa himself, who disregards the both of them, the conflict on Aono a tad harder because he didn't even bother mentioning his name. And when Harada questions him, he changes the subject, switching to the auditionpreparations. To have a 1st Year be at the front, Ayukawa has a person in mind: the only hopeful that is Saeki.

With 3rd Year President Mari Tateishi sounding off the day before the audtions, everyone is nervous. Since both Akine and Aono took the same train hime, she intrudes on his house for practice, this time for the audition preparations. But this time, Aono's mother isn't around, so the both of them are home alone. Indeed, Dvorak's Symphony No. 9's 3rd Movement "From the New World" is not an easy piece to master, and the piece's visualization is much needed to understand his intentions to the piece's composition. The both of them playing to complement each other, Akine's craft has much since then, thanks to his and Tachibana's advice, so too did Aono to come out from his rut.

The night before the decisive battle, and practice sessions go on for the night without end, more significant to Saeki's family, who comes from a family of instrumentalists. Hatori's challenge is there too, and soon, dawn breaks for the D-Day.

The audition begins...how will this fiery battle turn out?

It's a shame this anime got picked up by a trash tier studio.

I'm getting the impression that the instructor has some history with Aono's father, and isn't keeping it from influencing his attitude toward Aono.

---

If he lived in Germany until he was 12...Saeki'd have moved to Japan and started competing at the same time Aono ceased competing.
Unless he was shown tapes of previous competitions, he'd have never had any exposure to Aono previous to school starting.
He also would know nothing of the stuff concerning Aono's father unless someone made a point of bringing it to his attention.

It looks like what Saeki really needs is tutoring in written Japanese.

---

I hadn't thought my opinion of the CGI could get worse.
There were places where the bow was below the top of the bridge, where it dropped below the top of the bridge as if the strings just weren't there.
It just isn't possible to do that.
That's not having the wrong fingering or bowing, that's like having someone's elbow three inches inside a corridor wall while they are walking as if nothing weird is going on.

A little peek on Saeki's backstory. It seems Dvorak's 3rd might be a good match for him due to his deep longing for his other hometown.

Meanwhile, while others are also growing, it seems Aono is beginning to re-tap his former vibe of playing. Even Sekine can feel the true Aono slowly surfacing when he gets in his zone.

Eh, noticed Saeki's performance was done in conventional 2D.

So faithful to the manga.

Tension created that can be only conveyed by moving pictures.

For some reason grandma seems more fiercer in the manga, but going through both mediums, its pretty much the same, its just the paper format makes her seem more emotionally stiff, and I tried to make her feel more softer and warmer in my head....glad the show also did the same.

That was a good episode. Prefer this more than the  single-char focused episodes with a lot of past. For the grandfather I first thought ... "wow looks like some american farmer guy from the US" lol. Minutes later they revealed he was a German. :D Grandmother is cool.

Teacher is interesting. I wonder if we get to know more about him as well. Liked that he had a bit more screen time. Dialogue with the Harada guy. He must know about Aono. Maybe him mentioning that Aono + Saeki weren't there ... was more like a "no wonder it felt that bet" - instead of "you were not that important I did not even notice". And him not knowing/using the name of Aono like "you are so good ... I only remember your music and not the name". Fitting voice actor for the teacher ... yeah we really need a bit more of him. Better than the scenes where he acts as conductor just being the srict guy + no dialogues.

I wonder if Aono's dad is returning later in the plot - maybe during the stuff the anime adapts? Would be interesting as well.

Why would you not remember the name of someone who you think plays the best?

I hate the CGI in this anime. But I am digging the music and story. Let's leave it at that.

A bit more about Saeki which was nice. Hajime x Akine was sweet, she even thanked him. For someone like her saying thankyou out loud is much harder than you'd think, she wasn't even able to thank the other girl so goes to show how much she admires/cares about Hajime. Next up their audition, looking forward to it.
