Rethinking of this ep I would be speechless. This episode is a rollercoaster of emotions. Started from hating this character Amo thinking that she was just fan service to empathising with her hearing her background.

I don't think I'm jaded or anything but I guess after 20+ years of watching anime I just don't find it particularly affecting when annoying dumbass side-characters have a big trauma dump episode that I could see coming from a mile off. Of course Amo is brain damaged and sure, being sold off to an abuser seems as likely as anything to have done it.

The uh, sex scene, did remind me of Kare Kano in that they had to be a bit creative in obscuring it while making it obvious what's happening. Having Amo in that pose afterward sort of cheapens that effort though.

Her story reminds me a bit about Hansel and Gretel from Black Lagoon. I can't really understand how some people can commit such atrocities against children.

Meh episode. Honestly, I heavily disliked Amo the moment she was introduced so her sob backstory did little-to-nothing to change my perception of her. Also, let's not forget she tried to kill the entire main cast just one episode ago, and for no solid reason at that. Seriously, smh at these shounen stories using sob backstories to justify the actions of psychopaths.
That said, I gotta admit the way the whole grooming stuff was depicted via children's drawings was genius. Definitely more impactful than going full edgy and show the ugly bastard howling atop Amo like in other shows.

But come on, man. This chick has one of those Watchman Series instruments and they just leave without her? Fully knowing those Raider guys are after those objects?? Like for real, how dumb can you all be???

Her backstory's completely fucked. But for all we know she could have killed and graped these characters herself by mentally forcing them. I find her insanely fast self-recognition recovery to be incredibly implausible, that kind of growth after getting so completely fucked in the head that you start hypnotizing people into killing their own loved ones because you suspect they "want to use her for information" which... was exactly what she offered them in the first place. Like. She was way beyond "far gone", how many innocents did she kill before? And how did she twist their minds?

It felt very, very weird to have her try and kill literally all of them, fierecely so, only to get beat up and instantly go "I understand now." I don't blame her character, she deserves an opportunity to recover now that she recognizes what she was doing, but the way it was handled just fell very flat for me. This is not what recovery looks like. It felt like recovery being romanticized.

That being said, they did well with the overall portrayal of her background. But it felt cheap to first introduce her as a hyponitizing murderuous maniac and then this episode. "Look! She's crazy for a reason." No hate on her, but the writing I do not respect.

I changed my outlook on Amo after understanding her past. For her mother to not only sell her off, but to give her to a pedophike. He was completely sick and twisted. He groomed her into making her believe getting raped was love.

Once the boots were handed to her, he started spazzing like the psychopath he was. I’m glad Amo defended herself. He deserved to fall to his death.

Sad that she even had to go through that.

I feel like I said this just a few weeks ago regarding episode 11 or 12, but this is the new best episode. Amo's backstory is predictably harrowing, but the cerebal presentation was something else. And that fucking ending man. fuck. It's so cheap to make us feel for the character with a edgy dark backstory then make us question whether she's killed off at the end of it just to increase our malice for a pre-existing villain -- and it's also really damn effective.

just a great episode.

unbelievably great tbh

i knew that amo's backstory gonna be miserable that's fs, but this shit is too much tbh if she didn't lie to herself i think she'd be Suicidal, but really thinking abt this is too much, and from the 1st seeing to the flying angel i knew 100% he's regto's killer 100% and seeing rudo starting to look crazy when saw him absolutely reasonable he did ruin his life, really got interested after this arc and i think things gets heated after this

@Prox1mately I felt partly the same way as you, which is partly why, even though I enjoy watching this anime, I can't really take it seriously.

I'm used to inconsistencies in this kind of anime, but it's really hard not to get disconnected.

I also think people change their minds too quickly. I felt compassion for Amo, but that doesn't erase all the harm she did. Now it's like everything is forgotten, let's move on :)

@Sveinn1 Yeah. It is what it is. I don't know what they're going to do with her going forward, since she appears to be in actual recovery based on how the story's presenting it, I hope they haven't thrown her to the dogs or brainwashed her or whatever. Fuck that. As you point to the inconsistences, I think it's like you have to kinda accept that the author didn't want to dive too deeply into it and keep the focus on the overall story instead.

What a great episode! This girl arc was very interesting and surprising, and the best so far. It deals with serious and sensitive topics that other authors often don't write about, such as mental illness, paedophilia, slavery, and the abuse that comes with it.

It's the tragic story of a girl, starting with a mentally ill girl (schizophrenia, I think) and her cruel and sick environment that exploits and abuses her condition, ending with her isolated and possibly dead.

Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

RIP Amo...

Apparently the girl just wanted to be loved, but she got sold by her mom and then raped by a random dude without knowing what the guy was doing to her is.

Not only that, but she constantly gets lied to by the dude so he can continue doing things to her. (for years, since she looked like a 6 or 7 years old when he started "ritualing" her til she looked like 15 or 16. (since her body looked fairly developed when the other dudes showed up)

Tho, Amo was already psychotic even before she got sold by her mom.

.

But apparently the marked instruments gives people that's missing certain common sense the perspective to know those common sense.

This may also be why Rudo sometimes also go psychotic from time to time.

(however, this doesn't explain why even tho she got her sense filled, she still decides to randomly kill others? what was the point of that anyways? what was to be gained for her by killing others? this part just felt off. Since if she got her sense, she would have realized that there's no reason to randomly kill people)

.

Too bad tho... I think Amo is now DEAD, and she won't ever come back... sadge... Girl just wanted love since the beginning, only to be exploited and then when she finally starts to move forward, she dies.

But... that dude arrived RIGHT AFTER the whole incident, was her hiding somewhere stalking Rude the entire time since the beginning? How did no one noticed, even with all the fightings and the "smell" going around. Dude isn't wearing a mask, but he's somehow immune?

Man, Amo thought like she had a perfect foster father ready at her mother's call, though that's clearly not the case with the latter selling her to a Giver sex trafficker who clearly uses her to depict "true love".

That all changes when the Raiders came to save Amo and present the boots from the trafficker that she currently wears, and her thinking that she saw her salvation happen before her very eyes. This again changes when the trafficker comee around thinking that she stole the boots from him, and the torture being unbearing from her end, then deciding to make a stand for her ownself, the vital instrument truly chose its rightful owner.

Amo clearly in a tussle against the trafficker for the boots, and it doesn't take long for her to go berserk and eventually lead him to suicide, plus with the power obtained by the boots that become who she is today. The angel that she saw, it's the same Raider that Rudo has been targeting all this while since he was exiled to the Ground, so it only all adds up for the lost love that both have suffered with, with Amo waiting for those who are willing to love her, and Rudo wanting to help her do so to create the connection.

Angels, Raiders, the "series" that was aforementioned, Jabber is back to slain Amo, which she meets her tragic end at the same tower as she had her "first love".

A brutal, depressing and emotional episode this is one.

I don't know if this episode is more sad or disturbing. Well, so far it's been one of the best Gachiakuta episodes.
The fact that this "angel" left with a Giver and returned alone later really fuels some theories. Interesting.
And, I wonder who those gloves and boots belonged to. It makes sense that they were a set. Anyway, a very good episode.

i disagree that this was torture porn, or that its a dark backstory told only to make us feel bad for the character. i think the topic was told very sensitively and beautifully, and provided reasons for why amo is the way she is: she was obsessed with romance talk because her idea of romance has been skewed by that creep, she acts younger than she is (im assuming shes a teenager like rudo) due to the abuse she suffered (age regression is a common thing for those who have severe childhood trauma). there was reason and meaning behind amo's backstory.

the writing also didnt treat her like a complete victim afterwards. she talked with rudo about changing the way they act and reminded the viewer of the harm she caused just an episode prior. its more complicated than the anime 'redeeming' her as an antagonist. it gives her an opportunity to take ownership of that. (even though she might've died at the end lol)

the fight between amo and her abuser was also cinematic ; the connection one has to a vital instrument is powerful enough to reduce the abuser and the abused to equals, despite his trying to reduce her throughout the argument.
it was heartbreaking, but the writing showed that amo is more than what she went through. i love it here!

i could further yap about how her boobs *existing* does not lessen the message in any sort of way, but ill stop there.

gachiakuta subverting anime tropes blah blah ts peak why were the first 10 eps not blah blahhhh

This is the darkest Gachiakuta has come so far, the story inevitably delves into gruesome themes considering the hellscape that the world is on the ground. And what more sickening than a tale of a heartless, selfish mother selling off her own sweet, precious daughter to a creepy, ugly bastard so that he could groom her and toy with her whilst raping her and abusing her for what seems to be most of her life... Well, that explains why she's so mentally broken from her first appearance. She's both sheltered yet seen the worst of what mankind could do, and being so isolated means that there is no one else to turn to but the very man who sees her as nothing more than a plaything. It's sickening and depressing.

Those childish scribbled art of Amo being raped by the man and being conditioned to see it as a twisted form of 'love' made it all the more freakishly revolting.
It's no wonder that the masked guy with those golden wings was seen as an angel to Amo's eyes, who wouldn't, when all you've experienced is stuffy darkness? The OST on that scene is phenomenal btw!

And to think that the old guy got away with just a punch and then a relatively painless fall to his death? Nahhhh. You think death is a fitting punishment? An eye for an eye really is the greatest punishment; their world is already blind to injustice, might as well make the guy suffer, but alas, he died by Amo's hands. Still, the fact that she doesn't want to acknowledge that her own mother discarded her in her mind only shows just how much she's trying not to shut down entirely.

On the positive note, HOLY CRAP!!! Rudo beating the FUCK outta Amo actually fixed her brain up at least for that moment, enough so that she could actually tell her story in a coherent manner, giving vital information to Rudo and the cleaners. Nahhh, I knew that beating was 100% justified! Amo had it coming to her for her actions afterall, just because she was a victim doesn't mean she could be the abuser herself!

It seems that Amo sees Rudo as a kindred spirit of some sort, good on her for not asking for Rudo to apologise to her and good on Rudo for not doing it; his actions were a JUSTIFIABLE CRASH OUT. Hopefully, the same kind of crash out as he'd dish out to those masked figures, his imagination for them was metal as fuck! Let the fury fuel you, in this cruel world, that may verywell be the only solution...

I hope to see more of Amo, she seems very interesting, especially her thing on 'becoming human' and how she finds a parallel with Rudo.

Yea this episode was fked... As someone who went tru exactly this....i was in shock i just started crying i had no "child sexual abuse" warning no time to prepare or even be able to decide if i could skip this part or anything, before i realize i was in tears. My fiance had to like shake me out of it and when he realized what happened he got angry and turned off the TV. Why the fk would anyone have to go into such cutesy mode to show something so horrible?? is not cute and it definitely shouldn't be showed without a clear warning .

My long story short ahead:

My Mother let Stepfather rape me and abuse me since i was 2 years old as i kid he would tell me it was a secret game we played, then in school i learned in sex ed that wasnt okay so i started fighting it off and would end up beat up. so Yea i didnt not want to have to revive that on a chill evening after work when i all wanted was to watch an anime i was finally invested on.
