Whoa, an actual battle featuring Miko and Shiori. They're definitely taking this character rivalry to new heights. Also, it looks like Miko did have a past/character connection with Hinako after all. What a small world. The personality moods were well executed between the different characters imo. Props to the VAs on protraying them so well.

Miko vs. Shiori. Wow. I definitely didn't expect things to escalate this quickly between them. And I thought Miko was just your average funny airhead character. Interesting revelations about Miko and Hinako's past. Shiori's teacher mode looked pretty hot. :3

Man, this Show and it's damned cliffhangers! :(( Anyway, so she started out as a kitsune that had a taste for humans, but was captured by a monk & tied to the old shrine. She knew Hinako's Family (probably for more as long as they lived there, may have included grandparents, but didn't say). How awful for Miko that the crash happened the day the entire bunched prayed for protection. She couldn't actually help anyone, distance might have been too great even if she HAD real powers. Now she is trapped by a sense of obligation & maybe genuine love ( as much as a Yokai can feel in this show, it isn't Inuyasha.). It keeps getting better & better. That battle was pretty good, but I knew Hinako would stop it.

Even though this situation was unexpected, it was obvious that Hinako would step in, so Miko had already been keeping an eye on Hinako and her family for a long time. Honestly, I thought Shiori's behavior was pretty shady because she only criticized Miko for “using” Hinako to eventually consume her, even though she herself says she wants to do the same thing, so she was really sneaky lol.

Why does the episode always goes by so quickly?! Miko has been suffering all this time by being with Hinako and yet she's still protecting her, she may have been submitted to her role as a local protector (and the people thought of her as a deity) thanks to that monk, but as times changed she started loving humans and stopped eating them too, and like Shiori said– her smell is already that of a Human. Of course Hinako will put a stop to that fight, not like their friendship is a hundred% not real. The cliffhanger was diabolical tho– let me think, Miko devoured Hinako's spiritual energy or something like that idk (or there could be another yokai there that went to attack Hinako lol) Shiori looks amazing in any form, the hot adult lady and the cute little sister– I like the default setting better too tho (definitely doesn't want to see the transformation either)

That was a real nasty cliffhanger no doubt. Was pretty damn frustrating Shiori butting in during their talk, but guess she knew THAT was gonna happen. Pretty good history drop of Miko and relation to Hinako,it wasnt bad by any means but really wish the directing was better to really make it punch.

Weekly appreciation of the opening once again, But man I knew I was right trusting Miko I mean the title of the episode was literally "beast of affection" This was definitely a packed episode even though it took place in one place the entire episode, a ton of lore and stuff. If I had to assume Shiori taking back her original form would probably be able to beat Miko pretty easily. Not necessarily because she's stronger but rather because Miko has been starving herself which I'd assume makes her a lot weaker. If they she'd been frequently eating then I'd assume she's be at a similar or maybe stronger strength than Shiori so trapping her from the ocean was smart on her part I will say though if Shiori can only take back her Yokai form from the ocean that seems like a major flaw so realistically Miko should be able to easily kill Shiori You can literally see her ribcages in her beast form, Idk if that was a intentional design choice but its just something I noticed. Granted it may be kinda a reach its just kinda the way the fur is drawn their in like 1 or 2 panels somewhat looks like that. Plus even if its not strictly shown in her design the fact she can hardly hold her own urges back tells me not that she's bad just simply that she's struggling from not having eaten anyone. Which is really noble of Miko but Shiori seems to just mock all of that perhaps because she don't understand humans as much since Miko's lived with humans for ages now But I knew I was right to trust Miko I never once got a bad vibe from her just rather a mysterious one. Honestly the whole plot of having a Yokai that protected Miko as a kid and her family I honestly thought during episode 1 would be a plotline given to Shiori not Miko but I suppose I was wrong. Miko ain't literally a god cause I mean if she was killing Shiori would be light work, but rather she just kinda took that mantle after coming to love humans and particularly Hina's family. So as it turns out Miko used the spell to probably plant herself into Miko's life as a kid not long after her family died but In reality she's been a part of Miko's family long before she was born which honestly is really wholesome. Miko seems like a really good person and is easily my favourite. (But I seriously doubt she ate her at the end) As for Shiori this episode just affirmed what I think about her, don't get me wrong as a character she's amazing. But as a person in the story she's just horrible, literally everything she's doing is leading to her eventually devouring Hina. Like she only ever seems sad or annoyed when something goes against her interests. For example the way I saw the end was Shiori worried Miko couldn't control her hunger anymore and would devour Hina and she's sad not because she cares about Hina but because she wants to devour her herself. So yeah still nearly halfway in and I have yet to see a single positive with Shiori's intentions its all just fake affection leading to her eventual goal of eating Hina, as of right now she has yet to prove otherwise even her protection is just her basically keeping her meal to herself while Miko genuinly is trying to protect her out of good intentions. Again don't get me wrong I love her character but I still think she's bad. Amazing episode (also that ost towards the end was amazing)

Fine episode 💯❤️❤️ They always manage to keep us at the edge of our seats every week. So Miko was really a local deity or at least a yokai that was believed to be one. She did great protecting Hinako so far. But the fact that she's controlling her hunger when she's around Hinako isn't really helping anybody to believe that she is a guardian deity.. 😭😭 She can be even more dangerous than Shiori. Hinako still seeing Miko as a friend that saved her but what's with that sudden transformation into Yokai by Miko. That shit scared me. Can't wait for the next episode..

“Miko was like the sun, no she was the sun to me” best episode by a mile, wow. Miko, you’ll always be iconic. I think there’s something so beautiful about Miko staying by Hinako’s side all these years, denying her natural instinct to feed on humans, especially one as sweet as Hinako, all because she loves her and her family. How can you not think she’s best girl? Moreover, she’s essentially the personification of Hinako’s family love and wish for her to live a full happy life. In essence, her parents never left her and have been right next to her the entire time 🥹. It may have started out as a spell and Miko using her charms on Hinako, but her love for Hinako is 100 percent genuine and vice versa. Shiori thought exposing Miko as a yokai would work in her favor, and if anything, it just strengthened Hinako and Miko’s bond because Hinako now knows everything Miko has done for her. If you think about it, with Miko being Hinako family’s guardian deity/angel, we have someone representing Hinako’s family wish for her to live on and someone representing Hinako’s personal desire to die in Shiori. Least dramatic/philosophical lesbian love triangle lol. That ending omg? Obviously Miko didn’t try to eat Hinako so I wonder what happened after that cliffhanger!! Excited for next episode. This week’s post credits skit was so cute too, chibi Shiori is adorable

Last one for spooky month, I wish some more fitting shows were airing this season but this is pretty much the sole one as far as I know, so even if it’s not really a horror anime, I appreciate that it was kinda fitting for the spooky season. About the episode itself tho, ngl Shiori kinda got on my nerves in this one lol, the way she doesn’t really seem to care much about the situation and keeps that same tone of voice, also how she decided killing Miko was the best option after hearing her backstory, yeah I’m glad Hinako stepped in to stop her. It’s possible Shiori is playing things up and was never planning to kill Miko, but you never know with a youkai. That aside, I really liked the Miko reveals, it’s funny that her being captured by a monk led to her becoming a local deity, but it really was a pretty touching story, especially because she’s trying to protect Hinako with no strings attached due to her failing to grant Hinako’s family’s last wish, it’s just unfortunate that like all youkai, even she is tempted to eat humans, deity or not. But that moment right before ED implies Miko chomped on Hinako, so was she unable to resist or what? I doubt Hinako died but I’m wondering how she survives, either Miko didn’t bite down like the sound effects implied, or Shiori saves Hinako, it’s a tough cliffhanger but I’m interested in seeing what actually happened there. Also, mature and loli Shiori at the end lol, so she can cater to any taste, I wish we could’ve seen the grotesque transformation that Hinako was seeing but it does add to the comedy that all we get are the sound of bones popping and Hinako’s reactions.

So Miko has essentially been a guardian angel for Hinako ever since her parents died so I was kind of right when I suspected that Miko was responding to Hinako's parents' prayers. Regarding Shiori, the only good things I can say about her is that she has been blunt and honest with Hinako as to what her goals are, and has also been protecting Hinako but for her own selfish reason, that is to devour her later on. With Miko having re-transformed again, I think it's yet another yokai that went to attack Hinako since Miko said that the way she is attracts bad yokai.

The man behind the soundtrack of this anime is really talented. While the animation and direction seem pretty standard to me for a traditional anime, the music is phenomenal. It adds that special touch that makes me enjoy the episodes — and this one in particular, I enjoyed a lot because of the soundtrack.

Honestly, if I didn't know some spoilers, I would say that Shiori is a hypocritical bitch, although in this episode she looks like one, her adult form from the bonus is top notch, by the way, Miko was protecting Hinako the whole time, and didn't whisper in her ear how delicious she was and completely contained her hunger, so in this episode she evokes the most pity.

| Shiori was disgusting this episode. Calm the F down. Stop going for the kill all the time! Miko didn't deserve such shit treatment. She's been through a lot too. She's pretty weak though. Yes she's starving it seems but expected more of a fight. Shiori keeps dominating in this show. Another cliffhanger ending... | This anime suffers from two big problems: noticably low budget animation and intentionally protracted story-telling. Five eps aired thus far and all of it could have been condensed into a 5-minute mini anime, without any loss of detail. Those into watch-paint-dry-paced yuri better watch and/or read Adachi to Shimamura, a much more refined and sincere work! |

JACKPOT The transformation part was amazing. Teacher Shiori and loli Shiori both had point but yeah Hinako default is best.. No way Hinako gonna die right? It would be out of character for Miko too. Nice backstory kinda similar to Holo ig. I think judged her too harshly. She was just trying to make up for her shortcomings in trying to protect Hinako for her family sake. Can't help but sympathize with her. First time their names are mentioned too (dk why their faces are hidden, creative choice?).But I do doubt without Shiori she would have succumbed to temptation someday. Glad to see Hinako still choose Shiori "in her dying moment". She is still unmatched. |

@Marinate1016 Lot of contradictions in the story, unless I am misinterpreting what is said. 1. Mikochan was tamed by a monk from what it appears to be medieval times. So she could have resisted eating humans for 100s of years. So why is her resolve suddenly faltering now? Especially since Hinako smells like a rotten whale according to Shiori. But at least we can say Mikochan's protective motivation is well explained and plausible. 2. Shiori's story, however, does not add up. According to Mikochan, Hinako is attracting yokai due to her wanting to die, this makes sense. But then why would Hinako become more yummy if she becomes happy, healthy and wanting to live, which is what Shiori is trying to do? Based on this principle all healthy adults would be yummier then "rotting whale" smelling Hinako. Makes no sense. So we still do not know what really makes Hinako yummy, to warrant Shiori's searching long for someone like Hinako, and then exclaiming "finally found you".

I started this series with the manga and read the four volumes Yen Press released over the summer. I was actually right at this point in the story — around what’s now episode 5 — and the manga instantly became one of my favorites. The art was gorgeous and the serious tone really hit hard, especially in this part of the story. I was super hyped to see how the anime would handle it. Up until episode 3, it was honestly amazing, but the end of episode 4 and especially episode 5 just weren’t what I expected from an adaptation of such a great work — especially in 2025. So yeah, I’m dropping the anime. Still, I totally recommend reading the manga and judging for yourself if what I’m saying makes sense or not.

You build a company from ground up, investing everything you have on it... then suddenly a capitalist investor gives you money and promises as investment, you accept it unknowingly, and suddenly they demand an IPO, you lose your holding on the company, and a year later your even fired from it.... ..... | @EvilJuju It's not a contradiction, at least according to Shiori. In episode 3, after Shiori protects Hinako from a yokai assault near a shrine (or a temple), Shiori says Hinako does smell like a washed up rotten whale, but that's the best period to eat a human for most yokai. Shiori, however, proclaims herself to be a connoisseur and she hates a rotten human meat just as humans hate carrion, therefore her mission is to make Hinako happy which then will make her taste better. In my head, it kinda make sense the happier Hinako is the less delicious her smell becomes to other youkai because suicidal thoughts = yummy, so happy thoughts = bleh I don't read the manga so I might be completely wrong here, but just wanted to give my two cents on the topic. |

Hinako is ok. I can accept her utter lack of assertiveness because she's depressed and all that. Miko is somewhat interesting (probably because watching the other 2 is a pain so she seem 'like the sun' in comparison). but shiori... wow, i really despise her. she's an unfeeling monster and all that i get it... but she's just so unpleasant to watch. maybe if she was interacting with other characters that weren't complete pushovers it would be less unbearable, but she has zero chemistry with hinako, so her antagonizing with miko just makes me want to see her head being bitten off. the anime itself isn't boring or offensively terrible, but shiori rubs me the wrong way so intensely, that i don't think i can keep watching this any longer.

Perfect anime to watch on Halloween 🎃 What could be better than cute monster girls yuri? Well as i said earlier, Miko is good and she really loves Hinako. But i didnt expect her to be a fake yokai. Though i liked that twist, its interesting. And btw she wasnt really obligated to protect Hinako's family, since she is not a real god, but she still felt guilty, which means she is a good person. And she actually helped Hinako and became her friend. Shiori a little toxic in this episode. She acts like she doesnt care about Hinako's feelings at all, but on the other hand, she stopped when Hinako asked her to... Does Miko attack Hinako at the end? Of course not, Hinako was attacked by monster again and Miko attacks monster, not Hinako. This anime has already had that trope so genki bestie will not die. Post credits scene is amazing. Mommy Shiori (Nefer from GI vibes) and loli Shiori are cute. But seems like the transformation looks very creepy lol. By fifth episode i completely fell in love with opening and ending themes, listening on repeat, especially Lily by Reina Ueda So its typical story with good anime like this - just when i think anime is dead and all thats left is garbage like isekais and chainsaw men, a truly good high quality anime like this comes and change my mind. The entire anime industry depends on anime like this - and its not about money, its about quality, passion, aesthetic and this is more important to anime as a part oh human culture.

How is Shiori so strong? Miko is weak because she hasn't eaten humans in a long time, hence her poor physical condition, but what about Shiori? How can she fight on equal terms with Miko while transformed, while Miko remains in her human form? She must have some weakness. How long can she stay out of the water before returning to recover her energy, if that's even how it works for her? Interesting lore about Miko's past. That monk didn't seem very strong to have captured a yokai like Miko, and based on their brief interaction, the monk was more cunning than her; he tricked her and then captured her. I wonder if there are still monks today who fight yokai. I imagine there are, right? And lastly, I would have liked Shiori as a teacher more if she had long hair.

(But I seriously doubt she ate her at the end)
As for Shiori this episode just affirmed what I think about her, don't get me wrong as a character she's amazing.
This was definitely a packed episode even though it took place in one place the entire episode, a ton of lore and stuff. If I had to assume Shiori taking back her original form would probably be able to beat Miko pretty easily. Not necessarily because she's stronger but rather because Miko has been starving herself which I'd assume makes her a lot weaker. If they she'd been frequently eating then I'd assume she's be at a similar or maybe stronger strength than Shiori so trapping her from the ocean was smart on her part
I will say though if Shiori can only take back her Yokai form from the ocean that seems like a major flaw so realistically Miko should be able to easily kill Shiori
You can literally see her ribcages in her beast form, Idk if that was a intentional design choice but its just something I noticed. Which is really noble of Miko but Shiori seems to just mock all of that perhaps because she don't understand humans as much since Miko's lived with humans for ages now
