| Not in the west, but in Japan, the fans are mainly females. The polls, the Hari-Masturi events, all point towards the fact that there's more female fans than male. Hell, the anime even made fun of that too. |

| I'm female and Gintama is my favorite show. I think you're short changing women if you say they only watch Gintama for mxm ships. I love Gintama for it's great mix of humor, action, and heart. And, of course, the amazing cast. I can't express how much I appreciate the way Gintama treats it's female characters. No fanservice. They actually get to be funny/badass and have varied personalities and different ages/looks and exist as actual characters, not just waifu/fanservice/moe bait. |

If you mean badass moments of male characters, Gintama has also lots of badass scenes of female characters. I think it is fair :). But I think you don't count them as fanservice(I also don't count). When I think about other things, I cannot find any fanservice(maybe very few). Can you give me couple of example? Yeah one example would be nude Gorilla-kun. I agree it is debatable if this would really count as 'fanservice', but still, it is a naked body - which we don't see on females. But Sorachi even said something about this, like how he doesn't want to draw his females like this. |

| Saying the polls usually have Gintama female voters doesn't really prove anything though, all that means is the female fanbase are more vocal about their opinion when it comes to Gintama. The females could very well outnumber the male viewers, but that isn't the proof, you need actual numbers to back it up. Gintama might be a shounen, and it has battles, but it is in no way a battle shounen, it's a comedy shounen. It has battles, but it's main focus has always been comedy, and the recent serious arcs aren't enough to change that. By that logic the majority of Naruto and One Piece fans are fujoshi |

I'm not surprised to hear this series has a huge fujoshi fanbase although they can be pretty obsessive from what I have seen. More fanservice for male watchers would have been good, just so its equal of course. But I'm just glad that there are so many strong female characters in this series, thats the really important part imho |
