This movie was GREAT!
Just as I expected from Madhouse! They did a great job on explaining the entire 12&13 Vols of the Light novel!
This entire movie had two goals. 1 is to make the cute Baraha Ainz's absolute Pawn, and the second one is to make people in the City (I think it's name was Honst?) to love Ainz more than anything else! (So they would become....well, you need to see the movie)
A very entertaining and most likely the last movie we'll see from Overlord, since there are just 3 volumes left of the Light novel to adapt... So I'm waiting for Season 5!

Not a lot to say about the movie. This was same as usual. Demiurge manipulating things from behind while Ains getting recognition as the savior. Neia Baraja looks like a carbon copy of Makoto from Tsukimichi but just female. I found Remedios Custodio to be the more interesting character. One of the few strong humans who can stand her ground. She prolly came off as annoying to most people but seeing things from her pov makes you understand where she's coming from. She tried her best to always stood like a wall for her people and lead them. Also nice twist at the end, it was Pandora's actor all along. Movie was decent, not much Albedo though. Hoping for s5 soon.

We step back into the world of Overlord once more! The poor Holy Kingdom marks another group left helpless in the face of Nazaricks schemes. Seeing Jaldabaoth use their kingdoms queen like a mace was brutal! Remedios is very lucky that she only got her spirit crushed. Her treatment of Ainz this entire movie is definitely enough to get on the bad side of his devout and powerful followers. Speaking of Ainz, his desire to push rune magic so hard was hilarious. I think that was what had my theatre cracking up the most whenever the action would take a pause so one of the monsters could hype up the power of Neia's bow. That plan might of flopped, but at least he got a loyal follower in Neia who is also a new friend for Shizu/CZ2128 Delta.

Cool movie, cool monster designs, and more of Ainz failing upwards and surpassing the expectations of his genius subjects. I'm glad to have watched it!

This movie was pretty nice to watch! Neia was a really fun character to watch and the overall worldbuilding once again shines. However people who are not super fans of overlord or caught up in episodes might probably be lost or find it boring.

I really loved it though being a super fan :)

@MegamiRem

Usually, a single season covers 3 volumes. So far, there're only volumes 15 and 16. These are two-part volumes just like this movie which covered volumes 12 and 13. So there is a possibility that we'd get another movie, or a season 5, who knows?

Alright y'all buckle up because the theatrical release just dropped for not Japan. Spoilers ahead!

I'll be honest, I was pretty disappointed by this. I'm sure a lot was cut from the source material but quite a bit of it just felt I don't know, empty? Like the entire mission with Neia and CZ could have been shorter to make room for sonething else.

Character development in general seemed to be a little lackluster except for Neia somewhat and that went basically nowhere. It felt like they were building her up so I thought maybe they'd have her kill JB with her rune bow or something and then she could spread the word of Ains but it doesn't seem like she really got a climactic character moment especially since everyone was basically in on it.

It was a farce, yes, but it felt like watching one as opposed to earlier instances where it was more evenly balanced between Ains' humor (he seemed surprisingly absent in the entire film imo) and other characters trying to maneuver around him. Ex, the Grandmaster: did she actually do anything worthwhile? Did she have a personality trait besides "angry?" I found myself wondering how she got that position in the first place. Were any others even worth remembering (besides CZ)?

The Ains fights as well weren't nearly as interesting as the Shalltear fight (although to be fair tat was like 45 minutes or something by itself) and just like throwing flashy moves out. It was much more satisfying imo to have the back and forth between the two because we saw it from a close-to-first-person perspective. This time it was a plot device.

Seemed a bit too spectacle over substance for me. Definitely didn't expect the Holy King to be Pandora's Actor a doppelganger though, damn.

"The people want a mark to symbolize their loyalty" I was thinking "oh yeah, next step they'll be registering them and then sending them to work camps" for blasphemy or something but I guess I was wrong about that since Demiurge already took over.

Haven't read the LNs but maybe someone that has can share their opinion on this? Is the story just written this way, or was a lot cut? Is this a bad take or am I misunderstanding or missing something?

All that said, I love Neia as a character and I hope we see a lot more of her crazy adoration going forward.
Also, the music. Man when that theme came in at the beginning. Chills.

@SawronZXZ The Holy King wasn't actually Pandora's Actor, just another Doppleganger under Pandora's Actor.

Pandora's Actor is already playing Momon and then later Ainz (vs Platinum Dragon Lord). He's at the same level as Demiurge, no way he would've bowed to him as a superior (only Ainz is superior to him).

This was really good! Glad I got to see it in theaters, the international release was a nice call! It was much more intense then previous Overlord iterations (which is saying something), really did have some truly terrifying and wtf moments. As well as being quite funny when you figure out the true shenanigans Ainz is upto.
I think Neia is one of the more compelling characters and it was interesting getting the context for why there were so many seals on the complaint against the Kingdoms attack on the supply carts for the Holy Kingdom.
Also the movie ended up being much longer then I expected, which was a nice surprise! Got my money worth.
I cannot speak for the quality of the adaptation as I am mostly an Anime only (but like come on we know the adaptation is a little fast anyways), but it feels like they fit a lot into this film which was nice to see!
This is for sure Overlord at its very best, both visually and story wise. Very very good!
Some really good animation cuts thanks to the movie budget!
And while the regular CGI was used, it was used much more tastefully then in previous iterations and never took me out of the immersion (cough* season 3 goblins).

Ok just got back from seeing it and ngl it seems crazy to see many high scores for the film? It’s not bad, but it dragged a lot at times and I honestly fell asleep in the last third right before CZ and Neia linked up. It was cool to get a story from the other side’s perspective rather than just Nazarick, but this just felt so long at times man. Def more of a season 5 than a proper film vibe.

Loved Neia as a character though. Her gradually becoming an Ainz stan and getting accepted by CZ was cool. I haven’t read beyond this book yet so I hope she becomes a frequent character. Was pretty hard to stomach the twist at the end though. I know it’s a common thing in overlord but fuck I hate seeing innocent people die for essentially no reason. RIP to the princess and you gotta feel for the paladin grandmaster too because she saw thru all of the BS and people just thought she was crazy.

But with the prince, was he always dead or was he replaced after he met Ainz? People of the sacred kingdom have no idea the hell they’re in for soon.

CGI def … looked like overlord for better or worse lol.

Just finished watching, gotta say, a bit disappointed overall. Anime only may consider this a good or decent movie and that’s fine. But having read the novel, it just feels a bit rushed. CGI is still a bit eh, there are good animations as expected from a movie but don’t expect any big upgrades compared to the anime. Calclub scene seems short, still brutal but short. Anyway, probably 6 out of 10 for me.

scanned through it on a pirate site, looks like shitty ass edgy garbage. Especially with the female knights. Author is is fucked in the head. I'd give this a 0/10 if I could. The only way this series can be good, is if it goes back to Ainz struggling with his humanity, because even if he's got the thing that tempers his reaction, he can still think and use logic, they kinda just glossed over that, could have been really interesting, of course I am probably asking much from a LN, god forbid they have good writing. Otherwise its just another shitty isekai with some blood.

Well then Ainz's solo performed show where he is the hero and the Villain. Tremendous performance and had all of them fooled 😂

When the paladin grand-master almost figured out him plans and saying "they might be working together" , I thought OH NO but the prince stopped her thought. I did wonder why did the prince interfered but to find out he was non other then our very own PA 😅

Id liked if the movie was a bit longer and most of the actions were also not visually shown, specifically most of Ainz's actions. I am not sure if this will ever get an anime season but if it does get one we can hope to get a more detailed view.

Looking forward to season 5

Solid movie, I watched it without subtitles so I missed quite a bit of the nuances and details that could have helped with the experience but I feel it was a pretty straightforward film. Nazarek witty scheme coupled with extreme caution which resulted in a seamless execution and Neia's fascination was probably an extra, lol.

North (or the human kingdom from the film) being under a doppelganger pretty much assured there's no chance of things out of hand, in case anyone had doubts how Nazarek would keep a firm hold xD. Looking forward to a 5th season next!

I've always find the glazing cringe and unfunny since season 1 then every season it becomes more tolerable and the most recent in season 4 it's okay I didn't mind it but this time this movie brought it back to that level of glazing in season 1 ten fold

this is maximum cringe, what a pointless arc

Finally...
I've waited since November and it was only a couple of days ago that this movie was released officially in my local cinema.
For reference, I read Volumes 12 and 13 which are the source material for this movie, back in January 2020, 5 whole years ago, or half a decade if you will...
IF you look at my profile and banner, you'd be right to assume that I'm a huge Overlord fan, and while I admit I am biased, I can assure you this movie is far from perfect!

The Main Characters
However, first I'd really love to rejoice! Seeing Ainz Ooal Gown in a theatre with all his Glory is a true spectacle, and it felt like a dream come true to finally see Neia Baraja, animated, moving and talking... It's actually surreal, she's as adorable and lovable as I imagined her to be. I daresay one of my favourite characters outside of Nazarick! On that note, the movie did her character arc total justice. Completely. As an animated medium, this is as good as it gets, anything more can really only be achieved through text-based media or a shitton of exposition had the movie attempted to convey all her thoughts and monologue from the LN. Though if you did read them, I'll assure you, this girl is a precious one :) Additionally, the number 1 most hated character of the arc, Remedios Custodio AKA Retardio~as the fandom calls her is just as annoying and aggravating as she is in the LN.

Grand Scheme
The Sacred Kingdom is yet another expansion project that Demiurge and Albedo have set their eyes on for Nazarick's conquest of World Domination.
If you remember the 'carrot and stick' analogy for their plan, you'd realize that the Sacred Kingdom is the recipient of the so-called 'carrot' whereas Re-Estize is the unfortunate recipient of the 'stick' of which is the catalyst for their total annihilation, In contrast, The Sacred Kingdom was saved by the Sorceror Kingdom's Supreme Wizard King, Ainz.

Of course, it goes without saying that all of the Sacred Kingdom's and Re-Estize Kingdom's issues were a grand scheme, a farce, fabricated incidences that'd turn the Sacred Kingdom into the Sorceror Kingom's ally. Different from the Baharuth Empire which is a vassal state, but it doesn't matter since The Northern Sacred Kingdom's ruler, Caspond, is a doppelganger pawn with absolute loyalty towards Demiurge and Nazarick's vision as a whole.

Adaptation and Pacing
For how ambitious in scale this whole arc is, the run time of 2 hours and 15 minutes, in my opinion, is barely enough to cover 2 whole volumes which should translate to around 2 hours and 40 minutes if we assume the usual 4 eps per 1 volume, minus 5 minutes for OP and ED. I felt like while they more or less cover many of the relevant scenes and events which includes the rescue mission that Neia and CZ did which I don't particularly like as a whole, I do love seeing Neia and this is CZ's first real solo-mission. Still... Even as an anime-only you might notice how frantic the pacing is and it's all the more true for the light novel readers, DAMN was it blazingly quick. Massive props to the director for having the comedic scenes play out as well as they did, Ainz's constant desire to market the rune-scribed weapons that he now sells was hilarious, especially when Neia is facing off the twin-headed demons, lol.

Battles-or the lack thereof
This is the single most BIGGEST issue that I have in the movie. None of the 'fights' that Ainz did in this arc are real, so it won't be as crazy as his fight against Shalltear. Then again, I DISTINCTIVELY remember the whole fight scenes being played out in great depth in the Light Novel. Especially the final battle to kill this 'Jaldabaoth' character. I was honestly shocked they cheaped out on the Ainz fight which I presume would be what most of the audiences' wanted to see, Ainz being a supreme badass. But all we got are some sparks, explosions and a final fireworks. It's disheartening... There was even a whole sequence involving Alpha, Beta and CZ supporting Jaldabaoth's fight against Ainz and Ainz's overreliance on [Perfect Unknowable]. A 9th-tier spell that he spammed the hell out of in that fight, it was as funny as it is epic, but alas... That never made its way into the movie.

The only notable battle aside from the opening invasion was Neia's last stand against the demi-humans with the other soldiers. She fought "to the tooth and nail" and the brief fight was awesome to see, albeit the only fight that you can even call a fight scene really, aside from the opening invasion. By the way, SHE FUCKING DIED! And were then resurrected by Ainz. Which in turn allows her to reach a certainty in her philosophy of Justice, leading to her becoming an evangelist.

Conclusion
Overall if you are expecting Ainz or any of the Nazarick casts to be in the spotlight for any significant period in time, YOU'LL BE DISSAPOINTED.
You won't see him casting any super tier spells, or even any iconic spells, not even when he's using [Aura of Despair] skill. Hell, he wasn't even shown to clash aside from the streaks of lights in the stratosphere.
This is an arc solely focused on the portrayal of the 'carrot and stick' initiative, and how Ainz managed to make a name for himself as a hero and saviour unintentionally. (When he was waving at the crowds, he was doing so thinking it was some sort of custom). The biggest aspect that the movie did well in is Neia, a central character in this arc. Her story is akin to the rise of an underdog story, from a nameless squire lamenting her weakness and constantly being chewed by her superior, to experiencing a phase where she's trying to ascertain what justice is to her, and eventually becoming a charismatic cult leader, preaching and enthralling their citizens en-masse with an infallible level of adoration and devotion for her saviour, his supreme highness Ainz Ooal Gown.

I love best girl Neia❤️ and her supportive CZ-senpai, and I love Overlord. This movie? Hey, for better or worse, I enjoyed it! OxT's Wheeler Dealer music is worth listening to in the credits.

Fantastic. If we the movie wanted me to end up as a mindless servant of Nazarick then it succeeded. Also Neia best girl. You just gotta adore those eyes.

In terms of the nitty gritty, it was an ok movie but an above average anime season if that makes sense. Since actual balance does not make all that much sense or does not matter in the first place, we all know it will only be Machiavellian powerplays from here on out. Which is fine and surprisingly fun (especially if you are used to Paradox style grand strategy). Who are you going to puppet, under what merits, what figure head, to what greater goal etc.. At first I pittied the demi-humans , then the humans, then I saw both butchered for the sake of the great one and then reconciled with both them and Nazarick.

Animation and music were average to bellow average - no surprises there. The voice acting of the Japanese dub was fine to very good (certainly added to the story). Overall, I am satisfied but I can't help to feel that the franchise could really use some more production value befeting its fame.

Cool I was able to find the movie online for free after doing a little digging. No subs though, but no problem since I understand Japanese. Can’t watch it in theaters anymore anyway and didn’t want to continue waiting until subs were finally made.

For once, this Overlord movie actually has plot to it instead of just being a compilation like the first two! 🙌🏻

I recognize Hayami Saori as the Seiyuu for that blonde knight! 🙌🏻

13:50 Demiurge shows no mercy 🔥

Ainz got Baraha glazing him too now 🤣🙌🏻 he’s very kind indeed

Man that lady knight is annoying as hell 🤯

1:10:20 No problem for Ainz at all 🤣 too easy

1:13:00 Ainz to the rescue 🙌🏻

1:17:50 oh crap, Demiurge’s monster is back 🤣

1:19:00 and here we go again with Ainz and Demiurge’s “acting” skills 🤣 putting on a show for everyone

1:33:35 What is going on here? 🤣 “Madou Heika” vs. “Ainz-sama”. Momonga goes by many names 😎

1:36:00 such a wholesome moment between Baraha and Delta 🤣

1:50:30 what is going on here now? 🤣 rune? So anticlimactic

Interesting movie. I see from some online research that this takes place in between episodes 7 and 8 from season 4. Even so, some people say a lot was removed and even changed in the movie from the light novel. Personally, this was a confusing movie. It wasn’t so much about Ainz, but from Neia’s perspective mainly and saving their kingdom. It was very confusing though. A big part of that is definitely because I watched this online and there were no subs 😅 I tried my best to translate and understand as much as I could with context. This movie was just released late last year in November 2024, so it’s only been 4 months since. I’m lucky I even found it 😅 maybe I’ll give it another quick run through in a few months when an actual good quality version gets uploaded with subs. Can’t wait for season 5! 💀🙌🏻

Finally watched it, great movie with understandable omissions from the LN. I think that the decision to create this even for people who never watched or read anything from Overlord this late in the story was certainly peculiar, but at the same time smart.

It was probably very challenging to choose which scenes would be cut and cutting most of Ainz's POV was interesting, because for the uninitiated they could really believe that he is the "hero" of the story until the late reveal, lol.

Overall the visuals were great and I really liked it even though it has understandable flown thru two volumes (and volume 13 was a chunky one) in two hours.

The moment you realize whole arc/movie happened because they wanted to advertise their rune technology weapon lmao. They sacrificed so many people just for that, That's Pure Evil XD

The Politics in this movie sheeesh🔥. They literally killed all leaders of the kingdom and acting like heroes and villains among themselves just to make the people join Ainz kingdom 💀😂. Massacred so many people again lol. And that reveal at end that the prince was also their doppelganger lmao, pure evil

Respect for Saori Hayami to voice a character who only had about 5 lines, lol. Payday is a payday.

it's a decent addition to the series, but it’s not without its flaws. The animation looks solid, and it’s cool to see more of the Sacred Kingdom’s struggle, especially with Albedo getting some spotlight. That said, the pacing feels all over the place, the story is super predictable, and there’s never really a sense of danger since we all know Ainz and his crew are unstoppable. Plus, Ainz barely gets any focus, which might be a letdown for some fans. Still, if you love Overlord and just want more of its world, it’s worth a watch.

Just watched the movie today at home, it isn’t bad. There is enough dialogue and action in it to keep me entertained.
