With stakes on the line, Hajime vs. Nao Saeki on Vivaldi's The Four Strings -Spring-, it's been a long time since he last performed for a crowd since the competition in his middle school. While the start goes as per normal, Saeki throws Hajime off his tone to the point of frustration that he begins to match Saeki's in a battle of sounds. Though it feels good, they overshot their briefing mark, and they got an applause from the onlookers, something that Hajime hasn't had since the competition. But when it came to properly identifying him from Yonezawa, that's the trigger of his bad memories once again because of the family's high-profile cheating incident. It's Akine's turn to showcase her talent from her 6 months of training on Pachelbel's Canon, and amidst his fear, her half-year of experience is enough to bail him out of his situation and calm his heart down.

Akine did a decent job, and the rest of the 1st Years' tryouts follow to split them into 1st and 2nd violins. The performance from the Senpais, especially the concert master Sou Harada himself, the strings ensemble performs the regular concert, which will be the 1st Years' debut stage if they joined. And as expected, the unsuspecting Aono asking if Harada is famous, which Saeki stopped Yamada to let him hear himself, he has everyone following his lead in a smooth manner, dancing to the tune of the piece and playing as one cohesive ensemble. That is enough to define the difference of skill of professionals and a mere concert master who knows his craft, and spears Hajime to finally find his footing to join the club, even if it's out of embarrassment and Saeki wanting to play with him again.

The new friends of Hajime's: Haru, Akine, Yamada and Saeki, carve a new chapter for themselves.

We listened Vivaldi’s spring three times this episode. Hope there will be performed other violin pieces.. Until now a good anime but barely misses to be a very good show for me (I don’t consider the quality of the animation).

I’m really disappointed for the moment. I’m not a celebrity child but..

The animation is not that great and the music are really average, nothing wonderful.
if you hated this episode/chapter, just watch/read something else...

24 episode anime yes?

Slowish pacing.

And just like that, we get our gang of 5.

Very faithful to the manga so far.

I was wondering how they were going to transfer what is without sound (manga) into a squabbling piece in the show, but it sounds pretty decent, to me, I found myself tapping my foot....so I must admit, that I enjoyed their battle.

CG remains awkward, fixed emotions.....Makes me wish they went full Sanzigen with the animations and go 3D CG throughout, and not just the performances. I think the mocap is better in this episode, will scrutinise it further.

Also, the OST sounds nice.

Better than the last episode. It also feels the CG become better (or my eyes got used to them).

Finally, Aono has found some form of goal and direction to follow seeing Harada perform with a group. He also rediscovered the fun of playing the violin by going all out with Saeki. He also rediscovered the joy of seeing people grow and becoming better playing the violin through Ritsuko. Now, their group is formed, maybe Aono can start having fun playing the violin more, and less of recollecting the pain of the memories that unfortunately came along with it.

Looks like Ritsuko will be put in the spotlight next episode. Also, Aono facing the learning curve of playing in an orchestra.

Man, I just wish this was animated a little better. The character interactions are so well done but the technical stuff just leaves a lot to be desired.

As for the episode itself, it seems like Aono has finally began to move forward and not just wallow in the pain of the past, but embrace the joy of the future. Seeing him go all out against the other first year was really cool and now he's got an entire friend group to grow along with.

Strange, I also feel this way. Maybe it's because we only see 1-2 people at a time here, instead of a big crowd of them in one shot? Or maybe the studio did put a lot more effort into this episode, thinking this is the "make or break" point for viewership?

The show was kind of losing me, but now I'm back on board somewhat.

Really like that there's so much music in this episode, and the characters do talk about music and performance a lot. Hope the show as a whole only gets better from here.

I am guessing they are still tweaking on the pacing as well, this being a 24-episode cour. They might be checking if they will have enough material to work on. ๐Ÿ˜…

Interesting.
The CGI is amazingly better than in episode 3.
It's still a different feel than the 2D, but the body proportions are much better; while the individuals don't look quite the same as in the 2D sections, it's not particularly jarring.
Binge watching what's been released means it is less than two hours between the two episodes so I focused on the performance section to see how it looked this time, I'm not sure what I would have noticed if it were two weeks apart.

---

I can understand why some might feel this is dull or boring.
Mind you, I don't agree with that view, but I can see how it would seem that way to some.

I think it's a good story.
It's well animated other than the initial CGI in episode 3.
The VAs seem appropriate to the roles.
While certain musical pieces have been given repeated performances, that was necessary; how else are you to compare different ensembles with as many variables as possible removed?
How else can you show that a given individual is advancing in their craft?

I'm glad I found out about this production, I'd be the poorer for not watching it.

Blue Orchestra's fifth episode is a breathtaking masterpiece, unraveling hidden depths and delivering powerful revelations. With remarkable character development, stunning visuals, and expert pacing, this installment captivates and leaves viewers in awe. Though some secondary characters could have been explored further, the emotional impact and storytelling brilliance make this episode an unforgettable symphony.

Man these music based anime really try hard to make same sound "different".

Same music first years playing suddenly with MC going :O like it's any better or different. What those two played sounded more entertaining than what the orchestra was playing.

Then again, I always like solo performances more than orchestras, so I'm biased.

While we're at it, making MC's father a cheater and a reason for MC to quit for a year, is the dumbest plot point ever. If there was some actual physical reason for MC to not have played for years, or something far more than a teaching scandal to make it a emotional issue that can last for years, or both together, that would be far more interesting than a kid being all emo.

Can't take MC seriously at all. Doesn't help that they just reached the fucking high school so you know not to take any of it seriously already. I would say Japanese writers need to learn to place their stories outside of schools and with grown-ups more, but that's like asking the water to not be wet.
