THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Production I.G. did a great job. They faithfully reproduced the most romantic and provocative episode of the original novel. This episode conveyed a powerful message. When you claim someone violates human rights, you also give rise to another discrimination. Those "human rights protection" activists are playing with "discriminative" or "inappropriate" words and expressions, but they never care about what the handicapped people are really thinking and feeling about discriminations. Marie's words in the last part were so touching. It's so sad that the TV company censored this episode and replaced it with a plain "peaceful" one.

I loved the series precisely because of that. The whole human rights aspect is yet to be explored in its proper form properly in this series.

Great episode, filled withg romance, deep themes and still as well directed as always. It felt more like a true episode of the series than a DVD special actually. And there was even a Zetsubou Sensei reference at the end !

I agree with everything said.

Great episode. Very fitting special for such a great series. I really hope there will be another season some day. Parent anime got 9/10, this still gets an 8/10.

Ah man I wish there was a second season to this series. There is a lot of potential subjects they can use for a setting like this.

Yeah I agreed and TV series although good in the general development of the story lacked more time for more info on various things including how it all came to. Although they give a explanation I wish they would illustrate more than through the talking of the characters themselves.

Like what other people said, best ep of the series for me. To be honest, I can't even remember most of the main series.

See Why did they replace Komaki and Marie's episode? (Episode 6 spoiler).

Wait, the TV companies censored this episode? Now that is ridiculous. And I was thinking that the episode was way too black and white, but apparently a lot of people are blindly idealistic like this? (Well, I knew a lot were, but not badly enough to think they knew what was best for a handicapped person to read.)

Personally, though, I wish they would have just kept the cleansing force out of it, as I said previously... just way too black and white. It started off as a very touching romance, and then turned into the bland good guys vs. bad guys, torture and all! (I sure as hell hope that any agency still conducting torture in this day and age will get its just deserts... if only.)

To tell the truth, I did like the original "original" episode 6 better than that special. The romance part was sweet, but those red forces... XD... were to steril and black as someone else allready said. a good 8/10.^^

Wait a minute! If she wasn't completely deaf-and-dumb then why didn't she talked with Komuki normally instead of using a mobile phone??
p.s. This episode seemed a little far-fetched to me..

Yeah . . . Slightly curious how large the age gap between the two is since it seems like he is probably 9+ years older than her . . . but oh well. Other than that, was a nice story.

The romance was ok, but the plot about crime was so dumb that I had to pause an episode, go outside, calm down and force myself to the end. Where is the police? How about an investigation? The whole series is stupid and unrealistic with this whole censorship-library war, but this special took this stupidity to the new level. It would be better without main plot, centering only around romance and drama.

She was wearing it in the beginning because Marie was assaulted by the same guy and they deduced he was targeting women that seemed like easy prey (such as having a disability).

Also, for anyone else, I'm putting the age gap at 10 years because she's a minor and she's in high school along with the fact that Komaki was 27 in season 1. So she's probably 17 or 18 (I think you're considered a minor up until your 20).

That was a sweet watch~ I loved how Marie and Komaki share a deep bond with each other despite the hearing impairment.

Another example of why rumors are horrible smh. The censorship committee was just looking for an excuse to torture them. It kinda sounds like a lot situations nowadays with people badgering others with threats without knowing any context because they thought that what they did to someone is unacceptable and has to be punished by their hands and not considering the "victim's" perspective at all. She was given an inspiring book with a character she can relate to ffs.

I'm glad this got a happy ending~

Extra-judicial interrogation begets extra-judicial interrogation. I didn't know that both groups also had law enforcement duties, I just thought when they were capturing book thieves they were doing so as internal security or whatever. This episode exists solely for its message at the end. while hard to complain about, I still don't find it to be a 'good' episode.

This was a fantastic episode, impressive for a special and extremely underrated too in my opinion. I felt like compared to how forced Koe no Katachi was with delivering its messages and themes, this one actually struck with me. Activists playing with fire with just assuming anything for the sake of fitting their agenda without even knowing what the context necessarily is behind the whole thing. Komaki giving a book to Marie involving a hearing-impaired protagonist for them is something sweet and thoughtful, but for others, its a violation of privacy and human rights and used as an insult to impaired people instead. Trying to fit their own narrative. Marie despite her trouble with hearing using her voice to shut those activists down was genuinely touching and the moment she and Komaki shared together was special. This anime is just too good, and this special was not afraid with digging into the controversial themes and pointing out that sometimes, you have to look at the finer details with context, and not just assume everything when those people aren't genuinely putting themselves in the place of the 'victims' at hand to fit their agenda.

Pretty solid follow-up episode. It was pretty cool when Marie rescued Kimako by turning the whole "offensive" thing back on the MBC.

It's actually interesting how ahead of its time this series has been with the themes of censorship & misrepresenting people out of special interests. Not to say it wasn't happening prior to when this was made, but it certainly has been ringing more true in recent years.
