It's time to say goodbye after 6 months of summer and the nostalgia feeling of it. I'm hoping for a sequel or an OVA soon for the Reflection Blue routes that is yet to be adapted, since there is still more content out of this series in the future.

Basically everyone has a happy ending not just Shiroha thanks to Umi sacrificing herself as you can see with Kamome no longer in a coma, Tsumugi no longer bounded by her astral form, Ai is no longer in a coma as well so Ao no longer needed to do her rituals every night on the mountain, and Shiroha will never have to die on childbirth since she never inherited the power.

At the end it is also implied that Hairi and Shiroha will still end up together with most likely a different child and not with Umi instead and they will all have a happy life at a cost of the sacrifice that Umi did on the previous timeline.

As bittersweet as it is Umi is definitely the MVP of the entire series by taking away everyone's trauma and they are living the happiest life as possible, and she will be missed no matter what. In Reflection Blue the ending also expanded a bit so in case that there would be an adaptation for it which I expect them to do so I won't say it since it's spoilers, but it is definitely significant that I'm glad they didn't adapt it here since it wouldn't make sense considering they are following the OG.

This season finale/arc overall gave me Clannad vibes. Good for Umi as she was able to experience so much happiness and got the most from this.

It was an emotional rollercoaster for this episode for Shiroha too. She was able to help Umi in the best way she could possibly can. What a season this has been really.

“You made me a mother, umi-chan” Who tf is cutting onions in my room. Can’t believe it’s been 6 months since that first episode. It all feels so far away, it’s had ups and downs but the journey was entertaining and for a VN adaptation, this was good. Really emotional finale as you’d expect from KEY.

In the end, thanks to umi’s sacrifice, everyone got the ideal ending they deserved. It’s so nice seeing Kamome, Tsumugi and the other girls happy and healthy. Even Aoi’s sister is alive and well. Shiroha in this timeline grew up with friends, even though she’s still shy.. but she finally has that childhood she always wanted in the previous timelines.

So the real “summer pockets” were the friends we made along the way, and Umi’s memory. The mind forgets, but the soul remembers. Even with her sacrifice, she lives on. Hairi getting to finally organize his grandmother’s shed was really sweet too, but his aunt 1000 percent knows about the time looping doesn’t she? She called out Shiroha’s mom name at the end there and I always felt she knew more than she let on.

Jumping off a boat and asking Shiroha how to make fried rice is the most extra confession ever, but that’s Hairi for ya. Timeline wipe or not, they’ll always find each other, in any timeline. Truly soulmates.

Not the best romance ever, but considering what the average VN anime adaptation is, this was really solid. I loved all the characters and routes. Still think Aoi and Kamome were my faves.

A very emotional farewell to Umi last episode :( And no matter what, Shiroha and Hairi's destinies are tied together, no matter if he has to jump in the sea from the boat to reach her... also it was awesome to see all the girls from the previous arcs at the very end, I almost forgot them but they were all very cool during the 1st half of the anime.

My opinion overall about this show that I highly enjoyed : It was a very solid Key VN adaptation. I really liked how it follows the classic slow-burn formula mixed with the summer nostalgia and slice of life leading into light drama and supernatural elements to reach its peak during the final arcs (Shiroha, Umi, etc) that hit hard emotionally. It feels very reminiscent of Kanon, Air or early Clannad that I loved for years and I think that if it had aired back in 2010 or earlier (if the VN was made before) it would probably be considered a classic already.

Got to be the most forgettable ending I've ever seen from a Key show. Like after 26 episodes, I feel I would care more. All the time resets that kept happening just undid any connection I had to any of the characters. Why did he suddenly remember Umi after that whole melodrama of her going to be forgotten forever?

Adapting visual novel is always tricky, and while this method tries to follow every routes, it still not quite capture the complex nature of visual novel.

They actually just ended it like the original game, would've liked to hear more of Pocket o Fukuramase te, really hope we get a Reflection Blue adaptation to tie the ending together. Visual novel was definitely better but that's a given this did a pretty good job but wasn't giving me major headaches from crying like the VN. I think people who binge this will come to like it more cause of the minor things that carry over each arcs until ALKA/Pocket, they weren't too clear on Umi being erased from existence because Hairi and Shiroha no longer have a sort of trauma bond like was stated in the VN. Play Reflection Blue shit had me almost at Clannad levels of tears.

Mod Edit: Removed abuse.

The first ten minutes were as emotionally strong in the anime as in the VN, made me tear up a little (once again!).
Hairi finally gets to help his aunt, but the flip side is that he does not meet any of his friends or love interests (not in any significant way) from the previous routes, and so Umi will not be born, but wait...
I've dreamed of seeing animated that scene where Hairi jumps in the sea to then go ask Shiroha to teach him to cook for a long long time (since I've learnt it was getting an anime adaptation in fact), and I'm not disappointed :)

My take as someone who played the VN a few months prior to watching this anime adaptation:
As the VN is very very long (close to 60 hours), there had to be some cuts, some (secondary) characters place in the story was considerably reduced (mainly Tenzen, Ruouichi and Miki), the plotlines were generally a simplified and shortened version of their VN counterpart, some funny jokes/moments were cut.
I didn't agree with a couple of choices here and there (the main one is Kamome sudden disappearance, which I think should have been at the end of a certain episode for more impact).
But overall, I still felt that the people doing the anime adaptation tried very hard to stay as faithful to the original as they could (to the point that the storytelling sometimes felt a bit stiff and unnatural actually), I loved that we got so many of the VN musics, I liked the seiyuus work just as much as in the VN, the animation was decent, the OPs and EDs were absolute bangers.
Basically it was a treat to watch this adaptation every week and I'm going to miss it :)
Easily the best VN to Anime adaptation I've ever seen (not even remotely comparable to what they did with Majikoi, Aokana, Island...).

It's been a ride.
Overall decent adaption but wish it's get bigger budget (The characters drawing are good but they didn't move much, lack of camera work etc.)
The real shame is they cut most of Slice of Life moment (which are damn hilarious) understandable since they don't have enough time, but I would prefers SOL over the fanservice scenes.

Now hoping for Reflection Blue adaption announcement.

Amidst the insanity of Hairi's final stunt, it's a nice detail how his drive to speak with Shiroha again overshadowed any lingering baggage from the swim team incident to get him to the shore. It'd also make for a funny story to tell if (or when) her fried rice earns a Michelin star or something down the line lol.

It's a little bittersweet how everyone's effectively a stranger again but I'm just glad the whole gang made it for the curtain call. Ending it without one last 'mugyu' would've been a crime.

Next Key anime when?

We all saw it coming but DAMN did still hurt to lose Umi like that. We love you for ever Umi-chan. Thanks to her everyone got to live a second better life or at least a fresh start.

I'm really gonna miss this show. It had some issues with the pacing here and there but the latest arcs were absolute fire. I couldn't stop crying during the last 8 to 10 episodes for sure.

I guess i'll carry this endless summer somewhere in my pocket.

Liked it until the end of first arc, everything else was kinda bland. The show definitely has the Key feel, but I personally don't think the story works well as a mix of stand-alone vn roots in anime form. 5/10

Well, first of all, where is my damn parry against the onion ninjas? Secondly, this is apparently the ending of the first game, and not the completed Summer Pockets Reflection Blue. Thirdly, I give it a 10, but I really hope that later there will be an addition in the form of an OVA or a movie that will properly conclude Umi’s story, and not just hint at it.

8/10 for me. I can't really say how good the adaptation was since I never finished the game, but as an anime itself it was really really good.
Umi's story was really sweet. Odd how there's no REFLECTION BLUE announcement when they hinted it at so much. Haira jumping off just to ask how to make fried rice was hilarious. Their romance will blossom as it's meant to, thanks to Umi's influence.

I feel like the bond between Umi and Shiroha was the most impactful for me in this show . So much so that it made me not care so much about Hairi's relationship with Shiroha which meant this final episode left me feeling a bit unsatisfied.
But I get it, Umi was the one who saved them.
It was a good story, magical, emotional, profound.
Not in the same league as Clannad though imo.

Goodbye Umi, you were remarkably powerful and effective for a child. Be proud. Ave atque Vale.

"You sound more like a child that me."
You may have had more life life experience than Siroha.

"A big beautiful bridge to span the entire world."
You may not have changed the entire world, Umi, but you sure improved it for many on the island.

"This is loss."
At my age, I am familiar with the concept. It is rather more painful at your age. I am glad you managed enough gains to go with a significant happiness.

We did it...Kyouko finally allowed Hairi to help her clean up the shed...BUT AT WHAT COST??

And so ends Summer Pockets on a poignant but still yet hopeful conclusion. Umi brought out the best of us and passed on peacefully knowing she did what she needed to do.

This anime was a pretty nice surprise since it was a better adaptation than I hoped. Obviously it can never get into the gritty nitty details the way the vn can do but it conveyed the story very nicely. Honestly the fact that we got 26 episodes is a miracle itself which a story like this absolutely needs. After rewatching some of Kanon 2006 on the side as a comparison I don't think I'm ready to put this on the same level as that masterpiece (especially with the vast difference in production quality) but the fact I make the comparison in the first place speaks well for Summer Pockets.

20:00 so Hairi still knows who Umi is?

My 12th and FINAL Spring 2025 anime finished! πŸ™ŒπŸ» Spring 2025 Anime Season is finally over for me πŸ€£πŸ™ŒπŸ» This was the only one continuing on. Wow, this was quite an anime. I’ve watched animes where each girl has a route, but not quite like this where the plot gets reset back to episode 1 for each new girl. The plot usually just continues on. So, that was different. How nice we got to see each girl again at the end, but of course, no one knows each other. Poor Umi man. She was at the center of it all. Cursed plot wouldn’t allow her and Shiroha to co-exist peacefully. In the end, Shiroha was the main girl. But best girls are definitely Kamome and Ao πŸ€£πŸ‘ŒπŸ» even that purple haired girl too. Hairi was a good MC. He went after each girl πŸ‘πŸ»

That was disgusting..I wasted my time..this is quite literally just a dumbed down cheap ass clannad copy..it seems like this author peaked with clannad and instead of making another story he just took the formula for clanned and copied it but just slightly changed the setting..

What were those 26 episodes for?..all that just for the anime to end up on square 1?...all the things we saw throughout the anime are meaningless?..and Umi is no more?..like that's the grand finale of the show..iam utterly and truly disappointed.

I've glanced over the over the other comments and it seems like this is not the end of the story yet..but honestly...IDGAF..I already wasted my time watching a whopping 26 episodes for half a freaking year just to end up with disappointment..

This show literally fell off after arc 1..the first arc was amazing..felt so good..then I got hit with the slap that is this anime follows the "routes" formula..like what's even the point?..if hairi is distant to end up with shiroha(2nd worse girl btw).. then what was the fuc*ing point of wasting more than half the show on the plots of the other girls..like what?...

This show fell off Soo hard and just kept falling off..never recovered until the last moment..it's a shame..I liked clannad and I consider it a masterpiece.. unfortunately it seems that's where the author peaked.

@Shadowx99 While I agree to an extent that Summer Pockets is more or less a "dumbed down" version of Clannad (and Air), it's important to clarify that it's not by the same author, only the same company. Jun Maeda had nothing to do with its writing

Pockets route ends with Nanami (Umi) making sure Shiroha has hope for the future thus making it so that Shiroha never develops her powers (which only develop when you want to emotionally run away from personal tragedy). The whole point of the previous arcs (Kamome, Ao, Tsumugi) was to explain some important in-universe concepts the two most important being the butterflies (which Kamome is and what they are is explained in Ao's route) and the "other world" (which Kimono!Tsumugi is trapped in and is a sort of nexus of the various timelines). Nanami is Umi but not really. She's more like a bunch of Umi's butterflies that came together with the purpose of helping Shiroha never gain her powers because doing so always leads to her death in the future. It works but because Umi is entirely a product of Shiroha's powers (yeah it's convoluted I can't explain it properly) preventing their development will cause her to cease to exist. Umi will still exist in the "other world" because that's where all lost things from every timeline are but not in the real world. But the ending is implied that Shiroha and Hairi meet and will end up together anyways but under better circumstances because Shiroha won't have to die in childbirth as she doesn't have her powers anymore. Plus real!Kamome and kimono!Tsumugi (heavily implied) are back in a "somehow Palpatine returned" way but hey it's Key doing Key things on that end so it's more wholesome.

I had a feeling that an ideal ending wasn't going to happen. Despite that, I 'm satisfied with how this episode went.

Umi and Shiroha's scene together was properly bittersweet. I respect everything Umi has done to get this far, so seeing her disappear while on Shiroha's lap was pretty emotional.

Another thing to note was that Hairi was finally able to help out his aunt with the shed after all this time. It did use up a lot of his time on the island, but he was content with it. With that being said, I'm glad that he wanted to meet Shiroha again, even if it meant leaping off the boat that was already leaving the island itself. You have to commend his bravery and dedication, even if it was reckless. XD

Overall, Summer Pockets has been a pretty fun ride, filled with great characters and it dealt with the emotional moments pretty well. It's no masterpiece by any means, but I did enjoy with what it had to offer and how the story progressed throughout the 26 episode run. Feel did a really good job with the production values of the series, considering its two-cour length.

Somehow we end up in the timeline where everyone is relatively happy. No coma, no ghost. Just a vague memory of a sweet summer. The last page of Umi's story added by Hairi was very sweet as well. I still think the plot was poorly paced and didn't stick the emotional punches in the end. Early routes were concise though. Solid production values too. Overall 8/10

A slightly longer episode for the finale, I think it really benefited from it, like the goodbye to Umi played out just long enough so it wasn’t too fast but also didn’t overstay its welcome, and we had ample time to visit one last summer with Hairi as he FINALLY helps Kyouko clean out that shed. And I kinda like that the shed ended up not being anything special, it was really just a retrospective look of what this show was about, a lot of memories stored in one place like a pocket, dare I say a summer pocket, or as Hairi put it, a time map lol. It was also in the shed Hairi was reminded of Umi, I wanna say it’s because a butterfly went in there but I’m not 100% sure, either way it was a nice way to bring Umi back into Hairi’s mind for a brief moment.

And lastly was Hairi’s epic jump off a boat just to ask Shiroha if she’d teach him how to make that fried rice, and as nice as it would be if they both suddenly regained their memories and got together again, I like this better I think, they were both given a bit of a nudge in the right direction and they’re probably gonna get back together in the future. Will it be the same as before? Probably not, and even if they did have Umi in the future, it wouldn’t be the original Umi, so yeah it’s a bittersweet ending, but it’s an ending I’m a fan of.

And that was it for Summer Pockets, my final anime of the summer to end (not counting Yamishibai), it’s very fitting that it would be this one, the show all about summer. I’ve had my issues over the course of it, I could be pretty harsh at times too, but overall I really enjoyed my time with this show and I’m sad it’s over now, I’m glad VN players seem to like it a lot too. Now I will fully admit, I wish the ending could’ve incorporated each girl a bit more, because once it was about Umi, everyone kinda got shafted besides Shiroha, I’m glad that it seems like everyone got a happy ending at the end because of Umi’s influence but I think it could’ve tied everything together a bit better, especially because I was missing Kamome and Ao pretty hard by the end, they were my two favorites for sure.

All the OPs and EDs were really nice too, but I think I’m gonna miss ED1 most of all, it was so good and really brought that nostalgic 2000s anime vibe that the show kinda had already. And with that, I hope they eventually do adapt the Reflection Blue stuff because I’d like to see the extended ending, as well as the routes that are only in that game, but if not maybe I’ll play the game myself one day, I liked this enough to give it a try.

The template of previous “Key” works was packed in. Could call it the "corporate color". But that's all it, seeing this work alone, I didn't particularly sense any new elements. Since the game is the original source material, if it's something only those who played it would understand, then even if it's adapted into an anime, wouldn't that make for a somewhat unfriendly story...

And it's over
I had to get to the final episode to understand why the show is called 'Summer Pockets', I'm so slow πŸ˜…

I'm happy cuz the final 2 episodes made me cry a bit. That's all I ask for Key adaptation.
Still, this was nowhere near close in quality writing as Clannad or Angel Beats. Another weak Key show. Tbh I want Jun Maeda back.

8/10 and I'm being too generous (just because it made me cry)

@TheColonel76 The Summer Pocket games (the og and reflection blue) happen to be on sale right now if you're interested, although the Reflection Blue discount is not amazing (but they're giving away steam keys on their socials so maybe you can get it for free if you're really lucky who knows).
In any case, glad to see some anime-only viewers like you really enjoyed the ride :)
