Ugh, this Mobuo guy gives the creeps. He's almost stalker like but I guess he's not a bad guy, just creepy. Glad to know their teacher is looking out after Kaya.

Speaking of her, she got to spend time with friends by the pool. It's too bad these peaceful days isn't without those ghostly monsters again.

Gotta love how kids in this anime doesn't act like real kids but more like adults pretending to be kids.

Anyway, I begin to understand the essence of this anime. This is not just child horror, it uses ghosts as a plot device to send a message to "pay more attention to your kids before it's too late".

Another very good episode! I tell you what, Ken Ken won’t be making fun of Kaya’s swimsuit anymore after she saved his dumbass lmao. Chie sensei as usual said it’s her break hour and was nowhere to be found as one of her students is drowning? I know they gave the “because of the environment it can be easy to drown” spill, but nah you gotta be counting heads at all times as an adult guardian.

Remember y’all, if Mob can get a wife and kid, you can too. Didn’t think his backstory would be that sad, that was really tragic though. Lose your daughter in an accident, get her spirit to hang around and then it eventually turns into a mindless evil spectre, a shell of her former self. No wonder he’s so indebted to kaya for releasing her spirit and letting him move forward, but there’s better ways to handle it than stalking she and Chie lol. It seems like he’ll be useful in saving Kaya’s mom so I’m looking forward to that

THEY WASHED DOWN THE STORY SOOO MUCH!!!!!!
In the manga Mob's story was so much more emotional, and yet we got a rly washed down version of it!!!!! Screw u studio!!!!

Now I'm rly curious whether they'd also wash and tone down the later EPs involving the Ebisumoris as well....
I knew the airing time slot being 17:30 JST is very suspicious for this kind of anime!!!!!!! It's a PG time slot... This title is sooo far from being a PG show with much darker tone in later stories.....

@phantomfandom no it's not, the anime didn't do the source justice.... T_T

If ur curious, just read the manga. It delivered the stories much better... For starters, this is NOT supposed to be a lighthearted title in the slightest.

Especially if u came from Mieruko-chan, first few chaps of the manga is enough to tell u that this is sooo much darker than Mieruko-chan is... Since, while in Mieruko-chan, at least until in later chaps, there's pretty much less consequences. It's just Miko trying to avoid supernaturals (once again, before some smarta$$ commented, at least until later EPs, I'm reading both so I know). However, in Kaya-chan, consequences are real. Ppl were actually harmed, went "missing", and even d*e. Especially after the intro of the Ebisumoris.

Surprised Chie would still trust Mobuo, especially after Kaya banished his daughter. Surely he would have gone insane and tried to get revenge.

Love that Kaya saw something wasn't right with the teacher in the mirror and thought, that's an issue for next week. Tbf shes gotta have a break, free Kaya.

@uncleqrow Yeah, it concerned me a little bit too seeing how blandly delivered and directed such a important and impactful moment was. I felt so bad for the guy when reading it in the manga, but here the delivery wasn't great.

Aside from that though, at least the monsters are handled fairly well.
I like to watch some anime, I like to talk about some anime, I dislike wars over some anime, but more than anything I love to live my life, anime is an enjoyable and entertaining addition onto my life but it's not my whole life.

Keep proving you have no idea whos actually at fault for doing this.

Once again, all the animation studios do is animate. Nothing else.

So if any changes to the story are made, the Production Committee made those choices.

Befriending the kindergarten group one by one by saving them. Really nice turn out with that boy, the "quiet drowning" really was scary and I'm not even a parent.

Would anyone know if they teach swimming in pre-school in Japan? I grew up in (West) Germany and swimming was something for the 3rd year of elementary school (ca. age 9) as far as I remember. Also in lots of anime characters not being able to swim is often shrugged off as something like not out of the ordinary so I was wondering even more if it was just an plot device to single Kaya out or being able to swim in kindergarten is more normal?

There's people in this thread that keep talking about the show failing the manga, but I really do not understand where is it coming from. Last week following the comments I decided to see the manga and see what was missed in the episodes, and yes the show did re-arange the order of the chapters, one chapter has been skipped - assuming it won't be covered later. But outside of a line here or there which can be just a result of translation differences, with the above in mind the episodes 1 and 2 were 1:1 the same as the manga, but it adds on the source material by fleshing out some scenes.

And well, this episode was no different, to the last two. Despite the comments above, the episode was exactly the same as the source material panel for panel, line for line, with a few extended scenes. I am guessing people complaining about the episode have not read these chapters in a while, and are remembering some events from later on in the series as having happened at this point in time. I know it has happened to me in the past ^^

But yeah as far as I can tell compared what was animated to what is in the manga, the show is basically a perfect adaptation barring some segments happening in a different order

As far as I know, the replacement in the mirror is still a replacement, or maybe the problem has already been solved in the manga, although maybe it's not such a big deal? But overall, the story is scary, with a kind of bad ending, although apparently not for children, given the change in the teacher's character. Here's what I didn't like about Mob's backstory: the glitches were detrimental because they didn't convey that feeling you get when you read the chapter, when slowly and at the same time quickly the ghost becomes a specter and already offers his father to cross over to the other side, but overall the episode is good.

Alright, lesson learned. When you get run down by Truck-kun, just move on. Live your best life in some shitty isekai, instead of sticking around and turning into that. Uncle Mob is very tragic, still belongs in jail. Good to understand him.

Kaya's still adorably kicking ass, and the real Sensei is apparently still trapped in the mirror. I wonder if Kaya can recruit the little brother to her side.

I usually wait till later in the day to watch this because spooky anime fit best when the sun is going down, but there is a bad winter storm in my area this weekend so I figured I’d hit this early, thankfully good horror still hits no matter what time of the day it is lol.

And ngl, I don’t think the nearly 2 minute recap was necessary, but this episode was still fantastic. The first bit with Mel Sensei wasn’t the scariest but the way it ended was quite horrific, so you’re telling me Mel was replaced by a mirrored version of herself and no one realized? And the real one is trapped in the mirror now? Daaaamn that is tough, I know she was kinda mean but I don’t think she deserved that, but what I do like about this is that it shows that this show isn’t afraid to do terrible things to some characters, yeah maybe the kids get a nicer teacher now but someone technically got trapped in a mirror forever, not sure if this is ever resolved in a later story or not but I wouldn’t doubt it stays this way. And after this was the pool segment, it was nice seeing the kids have fun but poor Ken nearly drowned thanks to one of the scariest looking ghosts so far imo, but thankfully Kaya saved him and now he sees her in a different light, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the end of him picking on her. I also really liked how this tied in “instinctive drowning response” and how it’s especially hard to notice in a pool full of kids, it may have been a spooky ghoul that caused it here but it’s a very real thing any kind of parent or guardian needs to be wary of anytime they take their kid to a pool. I’m really liking the way this show mirrors real life, it really adds to the horror.

But then came the stuff with Mobu (Mob? Might just go with Mobu from now on), he may have seemed like a creep at first but maaaan that shit was sad, I knew it would be the moment he brought up that he had a family but it still got me feeling depressed, what a terribly awful thing that happened to the lad. Like not only did the ghost of his daughter slowly decay into an unrecognizable specter, but his wife could only see it as Mobu going crazy since she couldn’t see ghosts like he can. RIP to Mobu’s daughter, and I’m glad because of Kaya getting involved as a baby, Mobu’s still around today. And looks like he’s aware of what’s going on in Kaya’s house, should be interesting to see how he plans to try and deal with it.

And as a final note, I’m a bit confused on if the adaptation of Mobu’s story was great or not, I see some complaning that it was watered down but another saying nothing was skipped. I’m gonna choose to believe it’s an overreaction because I thought it was well done.

This show is way more unsettling, dark and sad than I imagined it would be, I liked a lot the fact that Kaya got tricked last episode, meaning she is not invincible and a bit of a reminder that she is still but a child and now the mystery of the teacher and the mirror that didn't get solved.

Loving the series. Listen carefully to children, even if you don't understand them; ghosts may not exist in real life, but abusers, bullies, and other stuff that ruin a childhood can be happening without them having enough ability to express themselves

This was the darkest episode yet but I loved it, Mel getting replaced by the mirror ghost as well as the attempted drowning and Mob's tragic backstory. When I first started the show I figured it was going to be a fairly run of the mill slice of life comedy with some supernatural elements but I'm getting a lot more invested with each passing episode.

Even with his personality, Ken had a way more subdued reaction to almost drowning for a kid than I expected, let alone when a freaky pool spirit thing held him down.

yeah, the boy Kaya saved in the pool. No way a 5yo would be so mature and apologize or thank. So unreal it was pretty cringe.

That said, the show is IMO still decent so far. Sad backstory was sad too. What's worse,Kaya "killed" the dude's daughter right in front of him lol. I don't know how that wasn't devastating for the guy who couldn't let her spirit go. Did the daughter even pass on? Hopefully we'll find out what happens to spirits Kaya punches.

I had not previously heard of this instinctive drowning response before but it is a thing. My guess is kids young enough it's like returning to the womb and also them being unaware of the danger they are in.

I wonder how long before they figure out Mel sensei got replaced.

Mobu has such a sad backstory. Actually there probably are a lot of people that seem odd that are just like him but we never know since we never know from just observing strangers.

Yeah, apart from Chie-sensei she made at least two or three fellow kid friends as of ep4, the toilet door girl, the window girl and now the pool boy, or am I wrong? They're interacting with Kaya now. I think the lack of friends in her kindergarten isn't the main issue ;)

Honestly, the background story is a really good one. You could turn that into an anime by itself or some kind of short movie. It really surprised me. I know the budget isn't quite up there but that was an interesting way of introducing a now potentially main character and subverting the expectations of the viewer a bit.

Looking forward to seeing what'll happen to the mirror version of Mel-sensei. It reminds me of the Synchronicity mission in Control.
