3 year timeskip but damn, it looks like Thorfinn and Einar began building into their future. I have no doubt the two are determined to make a better future for themselves.

More interestingly is the development of Canut and the man he has become. Seriously, time did its change not just for him but the royal kingdom too.

Back-to-back peak episodes. This episode was incredibly directed by Takahiro Kaneko and beautifully storyboarded as well. On one hand, we have Thorfinn and Einar who finally are so close to having their freedoms in their palms, and on the other hand, we have Canute who has changed so much that even having such a loving big brother didn't change his resolution on what he wants in the future.

A really great episode once again. Couldn't have asked for anything more. It was incredible. The OST choices were beautiful as well. The flashback b/w Canute and his brother was very sweet.

Can’t believe those two actually cleared the entire forest on their own, cutting trees after trees. Took them a whole three years but yes definitely an achievement worth celebrating. Now just as Ketil mentioned, they’ll gain their freedom after sowing seeds in the next cultivation season. So that day isn’t very far when both Thorfinn and Einar will be free men. But what to do next and where to go from here, is still a question for these two. Though we’ll get the answers soon on what they hope to achieve going forward.

Now there is another man who’s in constant pursuit of his dreams, Canute. Being the king of England he didn’t just stop there, as hoping to become a man he once envisioned, something as meagre as curse of crown won’t stop him from moving forward. Went to meet that same brother Harald at his deathbed just so he could renounce his control over Denmark and formally had Canute take over, whom he himself poisoned.

What an achievement for both Thorfinn and Einar, having been rejuvenated after clearing up the trees to turn a forest into a farm for 3 years. They can already smell freedom, but being slaves, they also wish for the eventual day to be free of such torturous conditions. Thorfinn wishing for a world without war and slavery, it's nothing but a fleeting dream, though it always is on the back of their minds. The wish granted to fe free, and thanks to Ketil, they can finally be free, but only after coming back his trip to Jelland to visit King Harald. If that's not enough, being Ketil's retainers, it's a reward, but one that must be thought carefully.

The Bible verses of Ecclesiastes 3:9-11, as plentiful as it is, really paints a picture of King Canute, also onward with his crew on the journey back home to Jelling to visit his brother of King Harald, reminiscing of the times together of their young days. But Canute, ridden with the past of the execution of his own father King Sweyn, and just becoming King of England, has to contend with Harald's natural passing due to his illness, which was actually due to his own poisoning. The cusps of ruling both Denmark and England, with his father's remarks filling his head, it's the curse of the crown, the acknowledging of cursed men.

Canute, as proud as he is, will forever be stained by his own actions.

Anime original content on point, direction and storyboarding on point. Man, we're getting back to back amazing episodes dude!

Excellent episode demonstrating Canutes paranoia with Sweyn manifesting as guilt as he descends into corruption. I felt a stronger connection to Harald in this episode than I did in the manga.

Thorfinn seems to have a dream which is quite impossible, but it represents an ambition that I think could point Thorfinn to an amazing direction. Seeing him having massive smile made me so happy, such amazing growth.

No way this episode went by this quick man, this was another masterclass from MAPPA. A lot of good anime original content that shows the juxtaposition between Canute and Thorfinn in this arc. Thorfinn last episode saw the ghosts of his past and wanted to change, move forward and become a better person while honouring those who died.

Canute sees the ghosts of his past, his father and brother and wants to go deeper down this path of death and destruction. Perfect foil to thorfinn.

"The Curse of the Throne"

Turned an innocent looking, kind hearted person into person who can even kill his loved once for the sake of ambition and power.

Quite honestly, Canute's transformation from an imbecile to a Chad was sudden and sad after the death of Ragnar.

Man, the directing has been so great lately - doesn't compare to s1 in that regard, in my opinion.

Every scene w/ Canute holds my attention without a problem - he really has turned into an incredible character.

This episode was a strong combination of both light and darkness. I'm proud of Thorfinn and Einar, as three years have passed, and the farm is thriving. With that, their freedom is seemingly assured, when Ketil returns from Jelling to visit King Harald. I wonder what Thorfinn and Einar will do after they gain their freedom, will they go their separate ways, or will they become retainers of the farm? Certainly a big choice to make. In all that, I love that Thorfinn is starting to smile now, he's finally having some fun in his life.

As for Canute, he also returned home to visit his brother, King Harald, who is dying of seemingly natural causes, but it turns out that Canute poisoned him. Sweyn's manifestation in his mind represents his inner thoughts, and it's a curse of sorts, after all, cursed men must stick together. He's come a long way since Season 1, who knew the timid prince could turn out into such a ruthless man? While Thorfinn has swore off violence and looks happy, Canute's corruption will surely give him massive paranoia and eventual despair.

Damn, that was a heck of a white-and-black kind of episode!

White: It's nice to see that Thorfinn and Elner are almost done with attaining freedom after confirmation there from the Master, it's been a long journey. Honestly, I thought it'd take a lot longer to reach this stage but if it means we'll get to see a lot more in this season, I'll take it. Thorfinn's interested to go back to Iceland, I've been waiting for this moment for so long! Seems like Elner will be staying back on the island there for the sake of Arnheid.

Black: And on the flip side, Canute's wicked plan of taking out Harald has finally been set in motion. I found the usage of the curse and King Sweyn masterful, it was never made clear to us exactly what was going on for the longest time but you could sense that there was something in the dark. And the scenes of the past between the two made it even worse. Canute trying to keep a straight face despite that goes to show just how much he's changed. His corruption will surely lead to his eventual downfall.

And how convenient timing-wise that Thorfinn's considering how to bring peace and end slavery in the world, foreshadowing much?

Damn, Canute is thugging it.

For a moment I thought he was experiencing PTSD, but nah the crown's curse is taking effect.

Finally Thorfinn and Einar have earned their freedom, but knowing how anime is, somethings bound to get that fxxked up, but we'll see next ep.

Heavy contrast the the joy on Ketil farm that Thorfinn and Einar are feeling with the guilt that Canute is feeling. Manifesting as the slain head of his father sitting around lecturing him about the crown. A terrible curse befalls those whom seek the crown, it's lead a once sweet boy to become a monster. Canute has become the even worse than his horrible father. Poisoning his older brother whom he once loved dearly. The flashbacks to Canute and Harald playing that Norse ballgame made me cry. A good brotherly relationship shattered by greed spurn from that crown. Canute is slipping down that slope of no return, he wants to be the lone king of the North sea so badly that anyone will die to obtain that goal. Thorfinn and Einar meanwhile are feeling pretty good about themselves after completing clearing the land Ketil had them work. It took a few years like Ketil said it would but they've cut down all the trees. Now just need to sow the seeds and freedom is theirs. Thorfinn and Einar laughing at their success and imminent freedom once Ketil returns from seeing King Harald is great. Their smiles and laughs made me do the same. With no locked in plans both men have their options open to them for the first time.

These childhood scenes with Harald were nice anime original additions which added even more to the guilt Canute is feeling. He truly does whatever it takes.

Unlike him Thorfinn and Einar can be proud of themselves. There's nothing like good honest slavery.

3 years have passed, and Thorfinn and Einar have finally felled the last tree and have cleared the forest. They just have to clear the remaining trunks, till the ground, sow the seeds, wait for the next harvest, and they are free. The master then comes by and even says that as long as the seeds have been sown by the time he returns from his trip, they will be able to leave, earlier than anticipated. He even offers them to stay and work for him as retainers if they so wish to do so. Everything is going right, things are looking up, and Thorfinn and Einar seem to have a bright and promising future ahead of them. Surely nothing could go wrong, right....? Right??

In the likely event that things do go wrong and Thorfinn and Einar remain slaves or worse, peak-saga will still remain peak-saga. However I definitely wouldn't mind having my expectations subverted and... actually have them go free. Even just for a few days I'd like to see them enjoy freedom once again.

And on the other side of things, we have the once-timid princess Canute.... who has changed drastically near the end of season 1, and is still changing still.... but maybe not for the best. Dang, did he really poison his own brother?

I don't know if Thorfinn and Canute will ever meet again, but in the event that they do, it is going to be something.

What an interesting episode (although also a bit worrisome for Einar and Thorfinn based on how it played out.)

- Thorfinn and Einar cut their last tree, after 3 whole years. WE GOT A SMILING THORFINN! 🥹😭
- Ketil gives Thorfinn and Einar a discount on their slavery contract. Till the leftover land, sow the seeds and they are basically free. He also tells them that they will be free only after he comes back home from his visit to Jelling to King Harald (which is the worrisome part)
- We get a new quote, that talked about the fruit of the labor a man gets from labor, but not sure what's that supposed to mean exactly. I guess the story itself will explain it. The focus is then shifted to Canute
- Canute reaches back home to Denmark to visit his ill brother and King of Denmark, King Harald
- Turns out, Canute is the one who made Harald ill with his 'unknown illness' technique
- Lot of backstory between Canute and Harald playing the ball game, but no kindess or compassion shown by present Canute
- All for the sake of being "King of the North Sea", as rightly mentioned by King Sweyn in his head

Oof... now that Ketil has gone to visit in the same time King Canute has arrived, it seems that the slow farm life has come to an end, and the plot has finally started to progress. Since I have not read the manga, I don't know what way the story is going to proceed, but I am very excited to see how things turn out for our bros Thorfinn and Einar.

5/5 episode.

Ah, so we see where Thorfinn and Einar are 3 years on sooner rather than later., they finally cleared that forest. They were at a loss for words when Ketil arrived but as they cut down that last tree, that laughter felt genuine.
I noticed Netflix used the CEB translation where as Kodansha used the NIV translation of Ecclesiastes.
A proper flashback. Cnut's not merely remembering the former King Sweyn on the spur of the moment. The reason he recalls both his brother and father is deeper, as you soon see.
I got to applaud Kensho Ono's delivery of Cnut from rationalising fratricide to giggling at how he can only confide with his fellow cursed one.

This is what I'm talking about, these Canute episodes are good so I enjoyed this episode, no action was required here and I still enjoyed the episode so for you guys saying that we need Actionto enjoy this season then you are wrong.

And Canute is a bastard, I somehow knew he poisoned his brother before that big reveal, he is the one poisoning people after all so I thought: "hey, maybe Canute was the one who poisoned him?" and bingo, it was indeed Canute.

Canute is a power-hungry bastard now so yeah, I guess I want him to die, unless he has another good motivation for being a power-hungry bastard, like, he's trying to stop war and slavery or something, you know, like he's trying to be a "necessary evil for the greater good" or whatever.

The amount of passion the team working on Vinland holds is incredible, between season 1 and 2, it’s genuinely the best manga adaptation I’ve personally seen. You can tell how much they appreciate the series right alongside the fans, and want to deliver it to the public and bring it to life in the best way possible. The anime original scenes are once again a phenomenal addition, I can’t praise these guys enough, fantastic work.

Great and interesting episode it seems that the therapy farm works

Because we see how Thorfinn even smiles (that moment -Thorfinn- Eithnar- Tree- is very much from Golden Kamuy 🤣) and I don't remember the last time we saw Thorfinn smile, if he has.

He also reflects on the future, protecting, not wars... it makes his rebirth more evident, leaving behind that darkness, emptiness, depression -Let's hope he doesn't fall back into that darkness again... that we're already well on wheat-

On the other hand, Canuto is already immersed in his own darkness, in which, apparently, he feels more than comfortable and fulfilled at this time than in his past and with great potential for darkness to develop.
