So you're telling me we could have this kind of storytelling from the beginning, but they decided to throw those random side stories in the middle just for the sake of making the 12 episodes?
Anyways, I have to say this is probably the best episode ever since episode 2 (might even say the best episode of the anime so far), so it seems the anime is finally on track.
To start off, I found the ending to that side story quite unexpected. The preview hinted that Vare and Casuta would get back together, but that wasn't the case. In fact, Casura actually managed to gain the strength to finally impose herself and express what she really feels about the situation, ending up breaking up with Vare. The truth is that love many times is like glass, once it breaks, it never gets back to what it was, and it seems like Vare's cheating really made this love break from Casura, since she couldn't trust him anymore. While it's valid that a person might forgive a person for such action and break in trust, is also as valid for a person to not forgive that and end the relationship, in this case, Casura couldn't keep up with the act, even if she loved Vare, and I think she did the right thing to think of herself first in this situation.
Not only I feel like this story actually makes you reflect about this aspect of love, due to how it ends in a sad note, it actually fits the theme of the episode, as we see later on. It's a shame they weren't able to do the same with the other 3 side stories.
Then we got the Yuugure and Yoiyami fight, and honestly, it was really well done, One Punch Man wished to have this animation for its fights. The animation was fluid and it had a lot of movement, while still being easy to follow.
We also got a bit of backstory to Yoiyami and the creation of her sisters.
However, the best thing of this episode really was the reveal of the plot twist: Akira was an Android all along. I had many theories about this anime, but Akira being an Android all along wasn't one of them. Like, wow, this adds a whole other layer to the anime, especially to how Akira and we, the viewers, perceive Akira's feelings, since it seems they all derivated from the Human Akira, and not from himself. So, what Akira felt until now, was it real, or was just what was left of Human Akira in him? And what was the purpose of his creation?
Although this whole "If Robots end up having feelings, are they real or just their coding?" concept isn't particularly knew to media, it certainly isn't something common in anime, and I feel like the fact that we all saw Akira as a human until know makes you reflect about that question in a much different way, rather if they just announced he was an Android in episode 2 or 3.
I do have to say that, from a storytelling perspective, this reveal wasn't that good, since it was never hinted before that he was an Android, not only that, back in episode 5, when he got shot, he even bled, which you don't expect from an Android. Considering the plan was this all along, I wished they spent more time building up for this moment, and obviously spent more time exploring Yuugure and Akira in the past 8 episodes, instead of all the random things that happened in between.
The only hint we got might have been when we got the flashback of Towasa creating Yuugure and her sisters, where we see a guy just like Akira standing alongside her, which I found extremely confusing, considering Akira was supposedly in that jar from the 1st episode at that time.
So it seems Akira never died from that bullet in Episode 0, which seems to be confirmed from next episode's preview. Akira and Towasa were able to continue living together, although something happened, and I'm really curious to know what, since the preview seemed to be quite tragic.
This plot twist is so interesting, and is bringing a lot more to this anime in terms of plot development. This is what I was expecting from this anime when I read the synopsis. This is what I was expecting from P.A. Works. I was also pleasently surprised by the different ending, I think they are using the ending theme they used in episode 0, that never got released, and I always wondered why, and this now explains it!
After 7 episodes, I'm finally super excited for Towa no Yuugure's next episode! This has a lot of potential, and if the anime ends in a good way, it might change my perspective on it! |
