Watched episode 1 as part of CR’s sneak peak event tonight and omg this was so cute! We’re gonna be eating good with romance this season. Suzuki is going to be one of my fave girls of the year, she is so sweet and such a lovable dork. I KNEW Tani-kun was secretly fanboying out over her as well and just didn’t know how to express it. The fact we got a confession in the first episode is awesome. Always nice when they don’t drag out things. Cannot wait to see where this goes. I feel like this’ll take the gap Yano-kun will leave in my life. The color palette is so bright and pretty, the designs are great and the voice acting is really good!

Colorful. At the beginning of the episode, I was wondering who the main characters were when it switched between the characters. The girl's noises were loud in the theatre. Confession in the first episode.

A nice start that does something rare and gets the confession out of the way early. Characters were adorable as well with a hilarious lead. The colorful style added to the charm as well which looked great!

Communication? In my romance? And would you look at that, it actually leads to the grand prize of, get this, a CONFESSION in the FIRST EPISODE. Wild, I know. Turns out that talking to each other and getting comfortable actually leads to feelings coming out, and boom, we’ve already got a great setup for the rest of the season. Seriously, this is really good stuff right out of the gate.

The visuals are fantastic thanks to Lapin Track, and even the mastermind behind last year’s Shoushimin OP returned to direct this one. The guy just doesn’t miss, absolute god-tier directing, this OP is already a strong contender for the year.

Super excited to see where this goes.

Mangaka Kocha Agasawa has 2 series under his/her belt for this year: the popular later-released series of this show, alongside the recently announced 1st series Koori no Jouheki a.k.a The Ramparts of Ice for Spring next season. I've heard of this manga before, and it's quite the complete good run while it lasted...until the anime came along.

Noa's OP is visually creative, on top of a great song with the vibes to match.

The polar opposites of Miyu Suzuki and Yusuke Tani, they're just like last season's Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun a.k.a Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota's 2 main MCs, only with their personalities swapped, with Miyu being in love with Yusuke to the point of obsession, though a one-sided crush at that. Her friends Manami Watanabe and Aoi Satou are incredibly supportive of her, as is the other classmates Shuji Taira and Kentaro Yamada whom she hangs out with. And despite the awkwardness with Yusuke that Miyu finds herself having to initiate small talk with the rather introverted boy, and a confession that the former casually blurts out with the latter being all accepting about it, even for them to hold hands straightaway, feels like a dream come true...that it doesn't even feel real at the same time, with Miyu totally freaking out at what she just witnessed, that's pissing her brother off at home.

Miyu being late to school is rare to see, though not seeing Yusuke in school...sure holds rumours that the former can only suspect the worse of things, though he just forgot his accessories for class. The classes thereafter only giving Miyu the recurring PTSDs, until Yusuke comes to assure her that she has to reveal her crush to her friends, which comes as a shock to Kentarou and objectivity to the girls, though them supporting Miyu's love for him for her to chase Yusuke down...man, what a great group of friends to support and cheer on for a relationship in the making, that even the latter seeing her role in his life.

PAS TASTA feat. Eriko Hashimoto's ED is giving out Shikomori ED vibes, and I LOVE IT.

A rare feat in anime: getting the confession out in the premiere episode, and this series has done it, IN PERFECTION.
As much as I liked the manga, the anime is going to be quite the experience as the superior version of the source material.

I really like the simple art style and the well-done animations, it comes off real good. This is the kind of anime that will brightens up your day and put a smile on your face :). Can't wait for next episode.
(The OP and ED animations is just so so good)

Love the first episode, not what I expected... I thought she's gonna hold her true feelings for few more eps before she let it out, but thank god she did that in 1st ep already, so at least no more "mind game" going on, now they can try to have a relationship and see if they work together as a couple

I had absolutely no expectations for this show, and it completely blew me away. I was completely engrossed, like a mother watching her favorite Turkish drama. What an absolutely wonderful first episode, the animation, direction, writing and art are everything on point, it has been the surprise of this season.

Holy! everything(production value/quality too) is so vibrant, so cheerful, so lovely and there's Tani-kun, mundane, yet Suzuki can't get enough of him.

I almost cry when Suzuki screams her love for Tani, such a goofy yet sweet confession.

I love everything about this episode and can't wait to love the whole series!

AHHH PEAKKK ROMANCE COMEDY. SUZUKI BEST GIRL OF THE SEASON, TANI BEST BOY OF THE SEASON, SUZUTANI BEST COUPLE OF THE SEASON. ROMANCE ANIME OF THE YEAR CONTENDER ALREADY!!!

i love the OP, especially the visuals, and the director for this OP is Kyohei Ishiguro, who directed the opening theme for Shoshimin Season 2 before. But song-wise, i like the ED more. nevertheless, both are GREAT.

Sayumi Suzushiro has landed so many leading roles this season and she's KILLING IT. i'm glad Suzuki got a talented voice actress for her character. the comedy and facial expressions are better in the anime than in the manga, imo.

My diabetes is acting up watching this lolll. The gap moe of this couple makes their relationship so sweet!! This is how you write pure wholesome romance. No BS drama, just straight-up awkward high school romance.

HOT TAKE: Episode one of Polar Opposites is better than all romance anime in 2025 and 2026 so far, imo. (yes better than all Kaoruhana eps, so far lol)

It's cute and I like the dynamic, especially because the ML isn't cold or rude, just reserved. So far all of the 3 romance series I was looking forward to look great! And most of the others I wasn't anticipating have been good for the first few episodes, too.

That was fantastic! Far and away the best first episode of a Het RomCom I have watched in years. It wasted no time getting to the confession and kicking off the relationship, so not sure how the rest of the series will hold-up. However, that was a great start. Lapin Track rarely disappoints.

Bless reiwa era romance. Dropped the manga early due to the goofy expressions and artstyle but picked up the anime cause it looked colorful and ye it's more enjoyable in this format. Plot is nothing extravagant so far but the interactions and progression should be much better than the typical romance. Love the op theme song btw, really good and matches the anime.

I was getting a bit worried half way through cus the situation and dialogue felt really unnatural, but the second half was an absolute treat

I love how we got our main character's entire character development arc within a single episode and the rest of the cast look like they are going to have decent screentime too

Production quality is decently high with a great artstyle and the opening animation is really good too

Overall very pleasantly surprised

I had decently high expectations for this adaptation, yet I was still blown out of the water by this one. Not only did it adapt the source material as well as I expected, but it exceeded by adding more charm, especially with that intro scene. What an amazing start to this series. This is probably gonna be a top 5 show airing this season, everything got setup perfect with a great cast of really bubbly characters. The two mc's are great together the typical opposites attract cliché done perfectly well.

Plus it looks like their getting together in one episode so if the shows gonna be all about there relationship this will be perfect

I do think that the biggest difference, at this point, between an amazing romcom and a slop one is the amount of different type of faces the mangaka can draw and the soul and passion the studio staff puts into the work. This show clears both of those things and does so much more flawlessly, like JC Staff's Tamon's B-Side.

The whole show's flow of animation and pacing is out of this world; not 1 second, frame is being wasted on bland or mundane stuff.

You can feel the characters warmth/careness by the amount of detail the artists put into them; having seen most of the other shows doing a copy and paste with 1 type of female/male face with different hair and eye color, this is a breath of fresh air in the sloppiness of most romcoms airing this season especially.

This one is a keeper for sure. 9/10.

Oh, that one was really funny. And very relatable, for Suzuki trying at the same time to get closer to the boy, but also trying to not give away that she likes him 😁 (that was me at her age 🤣)

And I was surprised the we already get a mutual confession right on the first episode. That's rare, for a ROMCOM. I liked it 😁

Not just uncensored handholding but a confession first episode. Nah it's too much for my heart, too cute😭❤️

The faces and expressions of Suzuki are so adorable. And even some cringe.
Glad there was no drama and immediately she acted on her instincts. Well done girl.

The premise wise there are tons of similar anime but this started very strong but I hope things doesn't go out of focus from main couple to side characters too much because looks like there will be lots of them.

I am hearing Suzushiro Sayumi voice too much specially in this type of character. OP was quite colorful and ED wasn't bad either. It will tough to maintain such a high high first episode but let's see..
Suzuki can alone carry it.

Oh man, this was a treat and a half on pretty much every level, I knew this would be good but it still really surprised me. Now first off, no it’s not the fact the confession happened in episode 1, that’s good and all, and I understand why a lot of people love that kind of thing, because a lot of romances tend to drag things out for a long time, but no this is not why this amazed me. What got me was the beautiful and unique art style paired with some really good production, along with the really sweet gyaru centered romance we got here, it just all really hit well with me, not to mention the amazing OP and ED with really creative visuals, and I saw it mentioned already but that ED does remind me of Shikimori’s ED which is one I also loved.

And the episode itself was really good too, we got quite the big cast of characters with a lot of the classmates being notable, I imagine they’ll all get their share of screen time as we go, but the focus was on our mains Suzuki and Tani. Suzuki is just adorable man, I love the awkwardness paired with the gyaru style, and the way she melts around Tani made for some really good moments, she didn’t hide her feelings all that well really but I’m glad she managed to get them all out in the open near the end, learning to say how she really feels is a very valuable thing. As for Tani, I don’t have a lot to say since we don’t know a lot about him yet except for that he’s more reserved and speaks his mind clearly, but that handholding move was smooth af, I respect that he thought it was the right move to make giving that Suzuki invited him to walk home, because it was indeed the perfect move even if Suzuki became a mess over it for a bit lol.

And that confession, while I am of the mind an early confession doesn’t make a romance greater than others, was really really good, the first episode did enough with these two to make it very satisfactory, and it has me looking forward to seeing how their romance develops over the rest of the show. Super awesome premiere, can’t wait for the rest!

One of my favorite romcom (though underappreciated and not very well-known in the West) has been adapted into an anime. I was very worried about the animation as the manga has a very specific, cartoonish style throughout most of the pages, but the studio did great job, and I'm very... very satisfied.

Gapacho is probably the head of the producers :)

After Tamon and Utage, another super precious couple this winter finally is HEREEEE!! AHHHH THEY ARE SO ADORABLE.

Suzuki is pretty and stylish and flashy, while Tani looks very normal and plain looking.... totally polar opposites.... but! they were both very aware of their surroundings and also had their own awkward sides despite how they appeared :3 I love love love it when Tani understood the situation completely thus immediately held Suzuki's hand, then let go when he noticed people from his school were around them. He was so keenly perceptive. In addition to that!!!! HE LISTENED TO ALL OF SUZUKI'S SILLY CHIT-CHAT OH MY GODDDD HE EVEN NOTICED HER MASCARA T_____T that was so sweet I could lose my mind.

Suzuki too!! I was so happy when she chose to be honest with her friends and ran after Tani, trying to explain what she truly felt :")

I also really adore the visuals! So bright, colorful, lovely, and cheerful. The art style wasn't over-the-top, but paired with vibrant colors it made everything look so pretty. The ED was also incredibly cute, I loved it.

Such a fun first episode. I was really happy because almost every first episode I watched this season was impressive and satisfying <3 looking forward to Suzuki and Tani's dates!

Oh SHITTTTT. I can't believe thissssss. This is all I could ask for an adaptation as a manga reader. This is incredible. I finished the manga like 3 days ago and, withouth a doubt, it is one of my favourites so far. This is perfect. The story is wholesome and amazing. The development in every character is just incredible. And after seeing this episode I have to say that this is going to be one of the best romcoms of 2026. I loved the animation, it has the essence of the manga, which I loved. And the VAs are just nailed, this is exactly how I imagined them when reading the manga. This first episode was just perfect.
