It's not scary. Well, not really.

But it is... Weird. The random scenes are the most bizzare thing about it.

Watching Welcome to the NHK's English dub. The English VA for Satou hits this one out of the park, which makes the lightweight performance of Misaki's VA all that more disappointing. Yamazaki's VA is okay, and I haven't heard enough of Hitomi's to decide either way.

This is still a really great series, though, and surprisingly thoughtful and heavy. One of my favorites. I owe a kind of personal debt to it in fact, since letting one of my friends watch it who was in a rut similar to Satou's inspired him to do something better with his life.

Yeah, Welcome to the NHK has that effect on people. After reading the manga, I went out and did some stuff that I've been procrastinating on.

So Irond Will is setting his sights on a new target:
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=14447738#post14447738

But I guess since they aren't 'weaboos' they get a warning:
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=14447509#post14447509

Also,
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=14447690#post14447690

I'm sure it's the former, plus the fact that we're all mature individuals here.

Even if you disagree with Will's assessment of the anime thread, surely you can see the difference between what he says the anime thread was doing (NSFW stuff and general creepy talk) vs what he says the Star Wars thread was doing (people being jerks to each other), no?

They seem pretty different enough to me, at least!

Hah, the comparison isn't meant to be exact, but apparently being huge jerks over 90 pages is acceptable and only warnable behavior, whereas having anime avatars means that we get instantly hammered down!

There really was no "general creepy talk" when even anime avatars are considered creepy, and the title of the threads were changed by Will to read "PEDOPHILES UNITE". Perhaps one or two posts here and there were a little upsetting, at worst.

Don't worry about it, though. This isn't meant to be argument-worthy criticism, but just some poking fun at things that appear absurd, like what the Daily Show does.

My order for Nanoha A's was cancelled by Rightstuf. Apparently I ordered the reprint, and the publisher decided not to release it. Doesn't bode well for a localized StrikerS release.

Endd up ordering it off of Amazon. Only two copies left at $25.99. I'll probably watch Nanoha/A's and Simoun next.

Simoun is such an underrated show. Yeah, there's fanservice, but it tells a very interesting story if you're paying attention.

Fixed, because all along 4chan somehow got projected onto us for no discernable reason:
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=14447919#post14447919

At least Will had honest things to say...A MONTH AGO.
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=13862031#post13862031

And if you look further down, folks who like Golden Boy are absolute degenerates. Doesn't matter how hilarious that show is or that he's never seen it, you are a terrible person for liking it.

So, this was an interesting idea I heard floating around. What if we ask for the thread to come back put in GV? Comic books and manga are pretty close together, not too big a jump from manga to anime. It'd get us under a different mod, at least.

See, this weirds me out since over here, anyone who likes US comics is also a reader of at least one or two manga series as well. It's almost like there's no distinction between the two, probably because they became popular here around the same time. They're both sold in the same shelves in bookstores.

Well we will soon find out... here's a copy of the PM I sent Geebs:

Hi there, I was hoping to get your opinion on something a bunch of us are considering.

How would the community here take it, as well as how you and the other mods here would feel about it, if the Anime/Manga thread were moved from D&D to here.

Lately the atmosphere there has gotten extremely hostile, with certain people posting out of context excerpts from our thread in the chat thread to make us seem like nothing but a bunch of frothing at the mouth pedophiles.

I took exception to that. PikaPuff most certainly does not froth at the mouth.

But joking aside, we're maybe looking for a new home and your place looks inviting, but we wouldn't want to impose ourselves unless we were invited and welcome to stay.

Sincerely,
Falx

That's strange because all our other reasonable PMs were ignored with no response.

Still, going back to D&D doesn't seem fathomable, given the disdain that D&D Culture has for whatever they perceive as 'weaboo'. Unless you want to stick to talking only about Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Cowboy Bebop, I think this Graphic Violence idea has merit. It seems like a waste to have a whole board dedicated to only comic books when animation and other print media would fit in there just fine.

While I think some posts in our anime thread were kinda...questionable, it was few and far between and we didn't deserve to get shitcanned for it. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to talk about stuff that's new and different, even if some of it may be somewhat controversial. I'd say Graphic Violence would have less of a problem with us.

That western animation thread they have is a trainwreck. There's little talk about new stuff, and they only seem to wanna discuss shit from like ten or twenty years ago. Speaking of which, have you heard of this Batman TAS program? It's so amazing!

(Also that Western Animation thread talked about Flapjack for a little while, that's a pretty recent cartoon no?)

Huh, I never posted in the Anime thread but I read it occasionally. I have a whopping total of 0 posts outside of CF and the one D&D phalla I played in. The arguments about insular communities apply everywhere. D&D Chat is hella intimidating and I wouldn't touch SE++ with a 10 foot pole. The topic threads at least had the thought going that if I was into whatever it was, that I could talk about it without getting bitched at.
