So I'm guessing the more you watch of this the more sense it makes. But why would I want to torture myself with X episodes of uninteresting and nonsense events just for that short moment of clarity at the end? If after an hour of watching the anime still hasn't captured my interest I'm not going to give it many more chances. So the next episode better be good because the first three certainly weren't.

Lain's probably a hacker XD
Hearing people's conversations in every direction, and going through websites, games, etc.

And it seems her dad seems to know something about that psyche device or something.

Also by every episode Lain's personality is changing.

Everyone being connected is significant because this was released in 1998 when cellphones were still relatively uncommon. It scares me that I can no longer see why being perpetually connected is strange

This concept of having two different personalities in real life and on the Wired can be directly correlated to the people in our world having two different personalities on the Internet and in reality.

That part where the kid asks Lain out and tells her to be like the "wild" Lain was quite creepy. Lain's able to hear everything that goes on in the Wired. I gues that makes her special so she's being followed by those men in black suits.
Also who the fuck let's their kids go clubbing like that. Lain's parents feel so fake. Only the sister seems normal in the family.

honestly that present day present time thing at the beginning is kinda creepy, also still not understanding. Just hoping it'll either start making sense or start coming together the more I watch.

Also its crazy how that whole thing with Arisu saying its weird that they aren't taking the guy shooting himself seriously still applies today- whilst I'm not sure if it's what the writers intended with that bit, people really are just desensitized to things like murder and it really is concerning

I thought on dead person can be lived in the Wired, I was wrong. If so will people in the Wired (who have different personalities than the one in reality) be able to leave Wired and come to reality? if it is possible then there is a high chance that Lain at the end of the episode is the Lain from the Cyberia

Finally we see have some more info. I don't understand everything obviously but want to write some things down. Lain finds this Wired as a place for information but also for extortion, secrets, deception, etc. Lain has an alter ego in the Wired that is opposite from her and others know about her. She also seems to be "high rank" in the Wired. Both of her parents have something odd with them. The mom doesn't like technology and also acts coldly toward Lain. Her dad acts suspicious when Lain shows him the Psyche. I thought that Lain's sister didn't like her from the last episode but we don't see any hostility right now. The men in the car are of course of interest.

I like that it's finally moving along. Also, check out those middle school thugs in the club haha

This episode starts where the last one ends, she's in the police station after the events with the crazy guy shooting himself.

When she gets home the house is empty, lain goes to sleep and in the morning her mother is back and acting indifferent to Lain. Later on on this episode we see Lain asking her dad about the psyche chip she got from her locker in school, the dad act really strange and deny knowing something about it. We also see her sister (Mika) freaking out about the 2 guys (Karl and Lin Sui-Xi) outside her house and also finding strange how Lain is acting at the end of the chapter. Her sister is the only one acting normal in the house, lain's parents are probably getting controlled or something.

Also this episode we see how someone is trying to communicate with lain from the wire for some reason, someone is trying to tell her that she's not alone (This voice will be relevant in future episodes).

Nothing much this episode, but there is something we should not ignore. In the middle of the episode they show us some conversations happening in the wired, they are 2 of them really relevant to the series.

The first one

You heard about that kid pulling a stupid stunt on Accela, right?
Looks like the black market supplier is freaking out.
You can't find it anywhere now.
Rumor has it that the Psyche chip is mass-produced in factories in Taiwan.
Rumor also says that it was designed by a group called the Knights.
But I'm not sure if these "Knights" even exist.
In the Wired, there are a lot of urban legends like that.

The second one

Dying feels so good!
I feel accelerated...
What the...? There's someone in my room!
It's a little person like a kid in a red and green striped shirt!
I can't move in my bed! It's standing by my door, watching me!
Help me!

Putting these two things together, it can be deduced that Lain is like a "manager" of a chat (community maybe) very turbid

How is it that nobody came up with it?. Although I guess in 98 there were no group chats ... so I'm exaggerating.

.. could also be a hacker, or have the ability / power to read other messages.
Although I'm still not sure how much reality is and what is supernatural in the Anime

Good episode. It cleared up a few misconceptions for me.
- I now think that instead of the things in the shadows being blood, they are probably representative of the wired world because they look similar to the wired world that we've seen so far.
- I think its confirmed that Lain can travel through the wired and see into peoples emails, tv's, and navis. One reason of this is because in the opening we see her looking at people through their technological devices. Another reason is because it showed her entering to the navi and hearing people's private conversations.
- I now know the the school girl with the long hair isn't Lain's sister as I previously thought.
-I'm starting to think that in the cyberia bar, or maybe anywhere, people can come alive as a different person through the wired. That could be what Lain does at night on her navi. Maybe she forgets what she does as that other person and only knows what is going on when she is that other person. That's why she was confused when the kids were talking about her "wild side".
- Those people outside her house are probably FBI people who are looking into Lain to figure out whether she's a threat or not. I find it kind of funny how she just runs in that silly manner every time she sees one of those guys.
- On a side note, that "present day... present time!" voice reminds me of Hichigo every time its played. It sounds just like his voice.
- Also, I'm liking the opening. The ending is kind of good too.

these are some good observations. i def need to see the OP some more to understand it but it does make me wonder what the fuck is going on with the story.

I feel like things are starting to pick up, but not at the same time. The series continues with its stream of mysteries and hiding information from the viewer, likely on the part of the writer(s)/Mangaka. As before I will continue to watch, because now it feels like we're finally going somewhere, whereas previous episodes were just showing us around. The ending was strange and is an example of how the series creeps me out and makes me think I will get jump scared, but it gladly doesn't. It just lets the atmosphere rest and envelop the viewer.

Será que essa Lain ''selvagem'' e a Lain que conhecemos sejam as mesmas pessoa ou talvez Lain esteja começando a ficar confusa entre o mundo conectado e o mundo real e, como resultado, suas personalidades estão trocando?.

Does her family even exists?

I mean why didn't her parents or her sister answer the phone when the police called that late in the night? Also no one at the beds? Last episode there was nobody at home to receive the new computer and the delivery guy even express how lucky it was that Lain arrived, maybe indicating that he was about to leave already since no one showed up at the door.

I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it... Also was she even at the club on the night of the shooting? Her classmates at school didn't seem to care that Lain got into the class and even said that Arisu was the closest to what happened, but on the Wired to boast her different persona's fame she could have clamed to be there, that is why the little kid at Cyberia thought about it during their conversation.

I'm probably completely wrong, and clearly I'm still very confused and lost, but that is what I could come up with at the moment.

Great stuff so far.

There's definitely a big focus on feeling disconnected from the world.
That comment by the girl about seeing a guy die the day before and not even really being fazed by it for example ... sad to hear but very true even in today's world.

Very slow but somewhat interesting so far.

Honestly a really interesting episode that raised so many questions. The title "Lain the Wired" honestly goes hard as fuck but brings so many questions about Lain's weird connection to the Wired. The two black suit agents also appearing at her house after stalking it for a few days was eerie, and the Pysche appearing in Lain's locker that grants her deeper access to the Wired was interesting.
Seems there's apparently been another "Lain" that's older and appears at the club, but also one on the internet that the kids knew about which just creates so many new questions.

I actually love the theme of the Wired and post 2000 era internet boom of everyone being connected in this virtual online hub vibe this show goes for, feels so surreal watching in 2024 and seeing someone's interpretations of it not be far off the mark at times. Just seeing Lain sat in front of the Navi and seeing the screen reflect off her eyes and what i could imagine was hundreds of different forum threads of people's lives and questions playing in the back felt uncanny.
The idea of also having a completely different personality online compared to real life i think was the scariest part for me just because of how real and accurate that can be now a days.

And yeah, i'm really feeling that Lain's sister seems to be the only normal person in their family. Lain herself seems lost and out of touch with reality, her mom acts like a robot or just really doesn't give a fuck and her Dad appears quite normal and tries to act as fatherly as possible on the outside but i feel is harbouring a lot of secrets. Mika just feels like the most sane and normal person in the house hold and it feels really apparent at times, can't help but feel just as confused as her when nobody seems to react to events.
