I'm going to sound like a broken vinyl record player at this rate for the foreseeable future when it comes to describing Fruits Basket episodes, but, once again, this episode was superb and an emotional one at that, too.

A further insight into Momiji's situation with his relationship with his parents is full of sadness. I do feel bad for his father, though. While Momiji's mother has cut her connection with him, as we already know from the previous season, his father is doing his best to keep his connection with Momiji while still being married to Momiji's mother. However, Momo, Momiji's younger sister, keeps going to see Momiji when he plays the violin, with her wish of wanting Momiji to officially be her older brother, which isn't the case right now. Thanks to her spying on Momiji, she was able to help Tohru to get into the estate via a hole in the wall so that they could see him together. The scene with Momiji and Tohru talking alone together was enough to make me tear up a bit. ^_^;

Later on, Tohru was able to find Kureno, but he had to come to her rescue when she almost blew her cover at the other residents of the Sohma estate. Tohru's talk with Kureno was another great scene and it was good to see that Kureno did accept the contact info of Uotani that Tohru gave him. =)

The final scene with Tohru and Kyo overlooking the sunset on the rooftop was short, but sweet. =3

First Kureno, now Momiji? Those two sure share similar bonds in wanting to be in a relationship (but with the Soma curse impending), as how Uotani is to Kureno, and Momiji is to Momo (more like long-lost siblings rather than lovers).

Momo and Momiji's situation however, are cursed by their parents' separation (the father taking the son, and the mother taking the daughter), leading them both away from each other. And Tohru is as always the missing link, to understand and reconcile, even though she'd have breakdowns of the remembrance of her own deceased mother.

Kureno isn't a hard nut to crack, Akito is, and that's stopping the Somas' tracks of reaching out to the former. But nevertheless, Tohru's resilience is to be expected around the Soma residence, each and every time trying not to get spotted, it's objectively hard. Despite that, Kureno finding Tohru and their conversation about entrusting Uotani in his hands, however from Tohru's outsider perspective, Kureno's situation is another case in itself, and acceptance doesn't come easy.

Kyo, my man. He's becoming more supportive of Tohru, whilst fighting more internal battles of wishes and dreams realized.

Another good episode.

My love for Tohru continues to grow. Holy Crap her development is so good. Also she makes me laugh a lot more now then in the beginning of the series.

Tohru has heard that woman before. But who the hell is she? I hope we find out soon. Maybe Yuki's mother? Momoji? It would make sense if it was Momiji's mother since it is a vice she has heard before.

It is sad to see a very young child like Momo being so needlessly dysfunctional with her older brother when both of them have been shown to look after one another. They have expressed their intentions, directly or otherwise, to form a bond with each other. Momiji's father may think his family is happy, but that is not the case. His two children, Momo and Momiji, are anything but joyful, especially Momiji. The happiness he is speaking of extends only to him. It has nothing to do with his family. It is quite pitiful

I wonder who that mysterious female is that Kureno stumbled upon, though. She emits quite a dangerous fragrance.

Wonderful episode! At first, I got worried and annoyed of what Tohru was doing. I had to quote and utter what Kyo told her earlier on; Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong. I thought she would get herself into trouble and end up involving Momiji. But in the end, seeing Kureno holding that paper was worth it.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Damn, the episodes keep better and better... a different ache in my heart then the original anime. I'm wondering if they changed directors/budget/planning in the last 2-3 episodes. Not only is the art a bit.... less childish? I feel like I really relate to Tohru whereas before she had the "annoying I FEEL USELESS SO IM GOING TO MOPE" MC energy.
Really loved this episode, comparing different types of miss and separation. Also I screamed seeing Kyo use his sleeve to wipe her tears, and also promise to be her wingman. I don't know if it was the pacing from the 2001 show, but even though he was my preference, I feel like it was a bit unnatural seeing how quickly he said
. Here you see him slowly...become a little less...tsundere baka cat. Even though he fights with Yuki, he really doesn't have an agenda except live his best cat life. I don't know... both seiyuus for Kyo and Tohru just greatly improved. Also seeing Kureno, in comparison to the others (i.e Kyo), you really start to see how Tohru's little touch to the Somas has such a great impact. They talk about it alot, but you finally see how Akito has an affect on them. My heart hurts for Kureno, but maybe it's because he has the lonely/alienated cat energy to him too.

Rambling aside, looking forward to the next episode.

P.S. Might have mentioned this in a previous episode, but does the ED remind anyone of an English/Western song? Melody and tone sound very similar to a female song... that was really popular for awhile. I can't put my finger on what song though.

By this point, Rin's horse form has been shown in the series. Kureno's zodiac form is also shown, but only in the OP for first cour OP (the one that was used for the Beach Arc). They changed up the OP for S2, E13 to include an image of Kureno with his Zodiac form.

Momiji's backstory really hit hard in season 1, and this just adds to it. Having Momo watch Momiji all this time and have an inkling she doesn't yet fully realise that he is her brother was just too sweet. Especially knowing that Momiji has been looking after her all this time too, even though they had never met or interacted with each other directly. I definitely need to see a wholesome sibling embrace by the end of the series. Momiji's so strong despite all that happened, and is still so full of love and kindness.

I don't fully hate Momiji's father. His mother, yes. No kid should ever be thrown away by their mother like that. But Momiji's father wanted to protect both his son and wife, and so it's understandable that he did what he did. With that, he protected the lives of both. Otherwise, his wife might've successfully committed suicide in the end. But what I criticise is the fact that Momiji's father could give more love to his son. He promised to give him as much love as a father AND mother, but so far it doesn't seem that way. It's like he's prioritising the happiness he rebuilt with his wife and new daughter, while throwing Momiji to the side. Momiji, who went along with this with a smile, deserves far better than that. What sort of kid can do something like Momiji did, and allow his mother to forget her for her sake? That's way more than any other kid would do. He deserves as much, if not more, love than the love both of his parents can give him.

The only credit I can give to Momiji's mom is she may have been hit hard with postpartum depression on top of knowing she could never hold her child in her arms and who knows what pain her child would go through. I wonder if that just broke her. Again, what she did was tragic and terrible but there may be a reason. Postpartum makes people do crazy things sometimes. (And it's mentioned that some parents can't cope with it. Maybe not the current zodiac but past ones too.)

I think it's really sad he has to be basically estranged from his father. I wonder if his father resents him deep down...

Ah, true. Postpartum depression can really hit hard even for those without a curse like the Soma's. But yeah, still, she really hurt Momiji by calling him a monster.

Yeah, no idea. There's been so little about his father. It seemed early on that he really loved him (after the mother's suicide attempt), but now I'm not so sure.

honestly, one of the best episodes for me. Tohru do something crazy, try to sneak into the Soma estate.. but she accomplished two things. First, communicate to Momiji that Momo likes him as an older brother. Next, Tohru was able to give Kureno the contact info.. which we later see him holding - so he has not given up yet!

I assume Momiji is practicing the song that Tohru requested, when we see him playing the violin near the end of the episode.

and some Tohru x Kyo moment too.

my enjoyment in this show has been restored. :)

tohru was so cute getting lost in the estate lol but damn did she make me cry so many times this episode. my heart aches. it's being torn apart. am i disheartened, because what i wish for is impossible? is it because i know about wishes that cannot come true? omg Tt________tT that was a perfect scene with momiji & momo, kureno & kyo just intertwining with that quote & violin BGM, so heart wrenching.....

I youtuber once asked if you could only break the curse on one Soma which one and why would you pick that one. I pick Kisa as she the youngest and because of Akito abuses this was when the season 2 had only 5 or six episode although Momji and Yuki was my second and third and that Although Rin had not been introduced properly it was clear she had suffer as bad as Kisa, Yuki and Momji but this eposide it clear that Momji father would cut him out of his family completely the only thing that may stop him is the curse and Akito wraith

I did! It was like they drew two pans of her falling, but forgot to take out one. Editing fault?

That aside, hot darn was this a good episode. We've seen Hatori's backstory, Yuki's emotions, Kyo's confession and so much more, yet THIS is the episode that makes me cry? I don't know what it was, but here's a reflection for those who'd like :P

I think Tohru was mainly responsible. I'm not a big fan of Japanese 'squeak-cutesy' voices on girls; never really liked it. But Tohru's personality, despite being what's been described as an angel, finally set in. She's unrelenting, almost to a fault - THAT is her fault, in fact, which almost makes sense. Ignoring her own doubts, or shoving through them, she goes forward through her fears, for someone else.

Then we get Momiji, and honestly, it was probably the violin that did it for me xDD It just amplified the sadness, especially that soundtrack at the end, showing him practicing. It highlighted how Momiji is truly, truly alone, if not for Tohru. Imagining him locked away in that room of his, emerging only for school is just...heartbreaking. And the generosity he shows is matched only by Tohru.

And finally Kureno. I felt the fear with Tohru of being caught. I was trying to place the voice, just as Tohru was, and yet grew more and more worried as the woman stepped closer; but then Kureno steps in with a firm hand on her head, and that simple act of assurance was so relieving I felt literal warmth spread through me in relief hahaha xDD
And then we see Tohru, in her earnest, pure sincerity give him the note, burying it, and then going okay arrest me now? Kureno's reaction of a simple laugh just made him so relatable just then, completely humanizing such an imposing presence. We saw a glimpse of what Arisa saw.
Then as he gently nudges her away, with the most heart-warming, or as Tohru put it, heart-breaking look we've seen on him yet...

Yeah, I stood no chance once Momoji's violin and Tohru's tears on the rooftop started.

Oh, and then Kyo being an absolute SWEETHEART, wiping her tears with his sleeve? AHHH FEELS I TELL YOU! SUCH a good episode this was!!

God, I was so stressed out that Tohru might get caught by Akito 😅!

I don't think Tohru became sad because she wished for impossible things to happen. I think she took inside her own heart a part of the others' pain. In return, she gave each of them a small parcel of hope (How nice it would be if people made such exchanges more often!). Anyway, I believe that Tohru's heart can bear a part of others' suffering because her heart is strong and well trained. Even more, her heart in shielded by a thick layer of love.

Years ago, I would have said (like others, maybe some of the characters too) that Tohru is an angel. Of course, that thought alone would have led me to the conclusion that being like Tohru was impossible for a human being. However, I realized quite recently that Tohru's qualities are actually human. With enough perseverance, patience, and training, every human being can build inside oneself a Tohru heart. Admittedly, it's not easy (it's actually painfully hard), but only the thought that it's possible makes the soul breathe more freely.
