Good adaptation of the first two chapters. Moi and Nico sound great! Love the OP and the way it teases many of the spells Nico uses throughout the show! Seriously, couldn't have asked for a better OP as a fan of the manga.

This was a promising start to Witch Watch. Nico and Morihito's chemistry does make for some fun entertainment as they go about. Morihito's facial expression as Nico crashed through the porch door window was hilarious as was how Nico made the kelpfish bully bald just to fix that wall. The pacing did feel a little fast, but it didn't effect the enjoyment that I had from this first episode.

I can see plenty more comedic antics from this duo with their peculiar witch/familiar relationship, but with the small tidbits of danger in the future spoken from Morihito's father, I do see our duo going through some tough moments as well. Either way, it has the premise that does make me look forward to more.

Yoasobi continues their form of making great songs for anime with how catchy this one is, backed up by some really impressive and fluid animation. The production values for this episode itself was pretty good, so I have faith in Bibury Animation Studios to keep that quality up for the most part. =)

I feel kinda bad because I kept waiting to be pulled in or hooked by this first episode and it just never happened? People have hyped this one up and I was expecting something special, but it was just ok? Granted it’s a long running series so I’m not writing it off yet, just wasn’t really moved here. Maybe I aged out of jump stuff lol?

Don’t get me wrong, Nico is really pretty and all, got a couple laughs out of me but it was largely just an okayish premiere until the end of the episode. The prophecy that Moi has to protect her from has me curious. What’s the disaster that’ll find her in a year 🤔

We’ll see how their relationship develops and how long it takes Moi to realize Nico has a thing for him lol. Very standard jump series introduction.

That OP tho!! Yoasobi aka J-pop leaders, back with another bop. People online could never make me hate these icons. Not a single bad song.

Oh no, she's stupid! =)

She's down bad for Moi too, that won't take long to become a plot point, I imagine. Nico's pretty cute but quite the handful. Moi seems like a good straight-man to pair with her.

The magic affecting their personality is great. I really like how there are consequences. Interested to see more of that and more of the witch/oni worldbuilding and where that goes. I wonder how commonplace magic is, seems reasonably rare but not unheard of since the lady they saved was more mildly confused than completely shocked. We'll see I suppose.

Overall very cute and very chill, has some potential. Bibury doing a good job as usual. A fun light watch, looking forward to more.

Episode 4/5

It was fun, I liked Nico and her witchcraft lol her turning into paper was hilarious, and him going after her and her vomiting paper confetti 😂

A great debut, the animation was also great and I simply loved the opening, the best opening for me so far. Simply phenomenal. This anime has a lot of potential to become something "big" in terms of popularity, it was promising

Nice a Romcom that actually has legitimate "com" in it. Looks to be a nice set up for further shennanigens. Though another curse that will take 1 year on a witch? Is this just a coincidence or a trope? And wow 26 episodes, I have high hopes for this one.

the opening is packed with so many references and easter eggs. visually it's absolutely amazing. so happy that Witch Watch is getting some of the treatment it deserves.

I think it was supposed to be the old David Beckham "Faux Hawk" (since he still had hair on the sides), I only know this because a character (Tetsuhito) from the Tenjho Tenge manga had it and that's how the they described it in the manga.

(note the same blonde highlights on the mohawk part)

An ogre and a witch are living together? Wow, that’s cool. Morihito really knows how to control his strength properly (I would like to see the moments when he was training for that).

Nico’s spells are truly useful and helpful. She can do a lot of things thanks to her witchcrafts.

The ED theme gives you such a nice vibe, I like it.

This does a really great job at capturing the energy of the series and the op shows they will be adapting a ton of the funnier chapters in the first half. Witch watch is enjoyable albeity pretty hit or miss, picking out the right ones will definitely help make it feel alot stronger overall. I love Nico's voice both cause I dont recognize it and I'm getting sick of hearing the same voice actors over and over again, but its also just damn cute.

Very good prologue, hilarious, bit emotional, and fun. Gotta love a bold, straight, and honest MC, exactly the way Morihito is. The heroine Nico seems cute too, i think she's in love with Morihito due to how much she flirts with him secretly, dunno if her feelings are childhood friends' or love interest's, Nico aside, i think Morihito is either not interested in her, oblivious of her feelings, or both, couldn't tell since from how the episode went and how his expressions were, i think he wanna protect her not as a love interest, but as a childhood friend, since she's dear to his heart.

Although who can say, maybe if Nico confesses, he realizes that the feelings were mutual all along, and they date, then live together & happily ever after. Then again, that's just me being delulu. Nonetheless, liked the episode, excited to see what they're gonna do about that disaster approaching Nico in the not so far future. Just be a good witch who helps people while Morihito protects you & that's it? Cuz of so, i hope the disaster is a serious one, else imma be disappointed.

@Marinate1016 As someone who likes the manga, I genuinely wonder who was hyping this up to you cause witch watch has generally been not well received in the west and barely anyone reads it on mangaplus. It definitely goes places you dont expect and has some real strengths both comedy and drama wise that I'd love to see get more recognition through this anime cause I find it very underrated but definitely let your expectations down.

Like I think its undeserved but the manga has a sub 7 score here with absolutly no activity on the forum for it, and on the official free release website it typically is in the bottom 3 least viewed of the non immediately axed series. This is by no counts a series that carries any hype going into it and I'd be shocked if theres much traction gained from the anime even in japan.

@Marinate1016

No worries, it's not the type of series that has some huge groundbreaking moment the first couple chapters to hook you in. It's a comedy/romance/fantasy, with action sprinkled throughout and a more serious story that slowly unfolds. It takes time to set up and it's important for getting you to care about the main cast before they get put in high stakes scenarios. It's honestly a really charming series, and I recommend you stick with it at least until the anime finishes airing! I imagine that the people who were hyping this up were fans of the manga, because it does have a lot to offer. A fun story with a great romantic relationship that develops throughout, and a great cast of characters, and some of the funniest chapters I've read. (and I love a lot of comedy series!)
Comedy isn't for everybody so it's all subjective if the jokes land for you or not! If you don't like the comedy or romance or the characters by the time the anime is over, it probably just isn't your cup of tea and that's okay! But I hope you'll like it!

Must be the season of the witch. They sure packed a lot into one episode here. Action, romance, drama and a big dollop of mystery. And some comedy that actually got me to LOL. Some pretty good writing so fair.

Thought the VA work was pretty good for the character designs presented so far. The animaton wasn't stellar but was a little better than I expected. Cute soundtrack. The director seemed to weave it all together well.

I had a blast with this. Let's see if the writers can keep this kind of quality up without sliding into cliche hell. Definitely going to get a good 3 eps testing.

@JizzyHitler
As someone who also likes the manga, I disagree with your take and wouldn't go that far.
Most series don't get popular until after they receive an anime adaptation, not to mention this one is already fighting an uphill battle compared to most Shonen Jump manga due to the nature of it being a comedy.
Yeah, the fanbase is small but it's a very dedicated one. Obviously you won't see many people discussing the chapters every week for a comedic series like Witch Watch, especially on an ancient website like MAL, despite having an engaging story and overall plot with mystery of its own to dive into.
And it still sells extremely well in Japan, it's one of Jump's most consistent sellers out of all of the manga in the current magazine's roster.

Just because it's overlooked doesn't mean it's not well received. MAL scores are not a very good indicator of reception, especially for Jump series which are always more harshly criticized.
The manga has a ton to offer and a lot to like! But I agree people shouldn't go into episode 1 expecting to get hooked right away.
It has that Gintama-style formula that isn't for everyone.

A really solid start! At first I thought Nico would be really annoying, but it turns out she has really bad luck when she tries to show her magic, and poor Moi has to deal with it. Still, they make a great pair. The comedy hits very well and the animation is very clean.

I was expecting a cute romantic comedy, but with the hints of a deeper drama tied to Nico's future calamity, I'm much more interested now. And the OP, YOASOBI never fails, and the visual effects are nice too. I was definitely more surprised than I expected.

Going into this I only knew 1 thing about the show that its name is Witch watch. So im quite literally going in blinder than a bat. This started of decent and gradually kept getting better and better. At first it kinda reminded me of "foolish angel dances with the devil" the only difference being the main characters actually start of liking eachother. But it has a very similar vibe especially with the comedy.

At first I assumed this show would be heavily comedy focused and while I do still think it will be the end plot with a disaster befalling Nico in a year sets up a proper plot so I imagine it wont fully be just comedy.

I am also curious on if this will be a romance. Based off vibes I initially thought it would be a more romantic subtext anime and it still might be but I mean Nico did say she loved Moi at the end so idk maybe this is a proper romance.

Nico and Moi are a really funny pair with a great dynamic.

Animation, Voice acting, comedy and a great setup for this anime I can tell this will be amazing. I was a little worried about this dragging out since it has 26 episodes but if it keeps this vibe then im not worried.

Incredible first episode

Weird "roots" they slapping us with.
It's simply "bestiality" at this point.

Dad's a lolicon.

Enslavement/turning a person into a contracted Familiar. (girl over boy?)

Both sexes living together. (shacking up...?)

P.S. was hoping for pure-like romance, but there're a lot of concepts being introduced that it feels like there won't be any.

Trashy magic: to switch the state of being broken and being not between two objects, and you need to have deep feelings for it... sorry, but that's just trash.

Hmm, romance tag missing.

At the very least, the heroine dearly loves the guy. But she's full of lewd and weird things in her mind.
ASinfulPersonageApr 6, 7:15 PM
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Been excited for this one. The manga is super charming and fun to read, so I couldn't wait to see it animated. While Witch Watch doesn't exactly tread any new ground, I find it to be endearing and light hearted, making it an enjoyable watch/read. I'm sure next episode they'll get more into they why Moi has to protect Nico, but I think they wanted to build their relationship together for the first episode. Some nicely animated segments and it has a nice bright color palette. The OP was incredible, fits Witch Watch to a tee. If anyone looks up the manga's colored volume covers, you'll see what I mean. Each one is super colorful and whimsical, just like the OP.

As expected, Nico is just as cute and innocent animated too.

Excited to watch this every Saturday.
