I'm not particularly impressed, but the next episode may prove interesting. This one was pretty boring, I thought.

It was what I expected. Again this keeps reminding me of Juuni Kokuki..

Anyway,I didn't swallow story told by the Holy Sage. "For the good of the empire..." right. There's a deeper reason for the prince to be targeted IMO.

Looking at the preview the next episode will be very interesting... can't wait.

I haven't seen Juuni Kokuki - I ended up dropping it after I was thoroughly unimpressed with the first episode.

Anyway, if this possession thing is real then perhaps he does think he's acting "for the good of the empire," in the sense of eliminating a threat rather than trying to stop rumors from spreading. But it seems like there's quite a bit of history being covered up too...

you fool :) (Although I had the same feeling at the time I didn't drop it, and I can say now it's one of the best animes that have crossed my eye.)

hm.. I doubt that. I'd go more with the idea that the emperor wants the entity's power to himself... plus I think the anime title "...Sacred Spirit" implies that the Fiend as it was called is not an evil one. but I might be wrong.

I poked around the forum a bit and decided to give it another chance and a few more episodes to hook me, only to realize that I'd already deleted it to make space for a few other things =/ Now I have to download the entire series again.

Hmm, that may well be true. I wonder if that has anything to do with the special sword they mentioned. It's all a little too vague for me to draw any more out of it at this point, I think. I definitely get the feeling that the sage (and probably the emperor as well) aren't particularly good or trustworthy people though.

That moment with Balsa threatening the Empress, great. She showed that she's taking the job because she wants to, not because she must. It was also interesting to learn about her back story and the possession of the boy. It makes the story more interesting than simply prince and bodyguard.

This discussion is about the English dubbed one right? Because I don't want any spoilers. I thought the episode was ok. I got bored during the conversation between the sage guys and stuff.

I think this show has some of the most beautiful animation I have seen in a non-OVA.

Great episode again, very impressed, didn't need any action scenes and still turned out magnificently, although the ending has me interested, I'd love to see how they choreograph the fight scenes.

Indeed a great episode. It felt like it ended really fast even though the pacing was a bit slow this episode. That's because I'm really interested in what's going on I guess.

The soundtrack is wonderful so far. Nice cliffhanger too and the next episode looks great.

I find the whole world of this series interesting. The characters are all interesting in their own ways aswell. The prince has really impressed me, I was expecting a whiney kid who'd only be a drag to watch but although it doesn't say much or do much you can tell he's not going to a total dick about it. Like Balsa said, he's got a spine.

Wow its totally messed up to talk about discret things, when the servants stand nearby.

It was also a bit harsh of Balsa to come to the two kids and then make them leave their place lol

Still I begin to like the Balsa & Chagum pairing. I wonder into what a character the prince will grow.

So the Holy sage has a connection with his Majesty,
I like how they present the Hunters - Yoshimitsu look alike

Tohya's place was cool too (I like looking at minor details)

Well the next episode would be good, because they've been spotted at the ending ep

And now we get to the heart of it; politics. The Holy Sage most likely has other reasons for the prince's death. And it is interesting that because the prince had almost drowned (several times it sounds like) that he is possessed by a water demon. Where as the prince says that he has this great need to survive. So it might not just be with water?

Definitely something more beneath all of this. At least, I think so. :x

I feel bad for Tohya and that girl... Kind of tough that they have to leave their house... and the trackers went right after Balsa anyway so making them leave was pointless. D: Aw...

Anyway... Seemed like a transition episode, but I liked it even though not too much happened. Nice cliffhanger. :D

I have no complains with the settings, it exceeds my expectations by a mile. It has a fantasy adventure that resembles RPG. I am starting to fall in love with this show.

Hey, so far so good. Gotta say, Chagum is nothing like I expected. Admit it, who didn't think he'd be another whiny, arrogant, bossy kid who along the journey gets a few smacks from his adult companion and slowly turns more reasonable and, most of all, bearable? xP Well, I did.

Yeah, I know right? I thought he would be a spoiled little boy who is hard to get along with, but he's been really obedient and responsive. I like how we get to see Touya bargaining with the shopkeeper. The conversation between Shuga and the Master Star Reader was interesting, we see a little more of what's going on regarding Chagum. But yeah, I agree that there must be more to this...the spirit that Chagum is possessed by seems really interesting, making him have the urge to live.

I'm already expecting this show to be one I'll enjoy, regardless of the quality of the unfolding plot (unless it's very, very disappointing, which I doubt). I absolutely love the setting because I'm a sucker for fantasy-themed shows. Can't say much about the OST at this point, though the opening song doesn't impress me much.

Hrmmmm, Going to guess that those 4 are each pretty strong, so not sure how she is going to run away (although they are also semi stupid, why did they run through the rice fields instead of all running on the road, it would waste a lot of energy running in those fields and having to leap ever 3-4 steps . . .

Anyways, why didn't they just buy a horse themselves before leaving town, I mean she already knew she was being tailed, and the fact she wasn't attacked in town meant they would wait for her to be out of town with less witnesses . . . So it seemed pointless to try and make a hasty escape out of town.

Pretty dialogue-heavy episode but it got a lot better towards the end.

The OP is pretty good. I'll watch it at least a few more times.

The ED is average. I probably won't watch it again.

Oh shit those hunters have spotted Balsa and Chagum. Shit's gonna hit the fan real quick.

What did Balsa do with Chagum's crown? I'm gonna have to go back and see.

EDIT: I'm stupid. Balsa was storing the crown and the bag of money in case her financial situation gets dire.

Toya's overbite looked hideous. Hopefully I won't have to see that kid again...

Great episode just for that cliffhanger ending. I hope there's gonna be some awesome fight scenes like I heard about and if not, that's okay because I'm enjoying this anime anyways.

This world is slowly taking form, and I'm liking it. The Great Sage said that the Emperor is suffering because he "needs" to kill his own son, but this is still too cruel, and I can't feel sympathy for him because I don't think he tried to search for an alternative, but let's see. That Shuga seems like he will be a really interesting character too, let's hope he won't be corrupted by the darkness he chose to walk in.

And Balsa acted fast, trying to take Chagum away from there, but the Great Sage, and the Emperor are no fools, and already sent the elite soldiers after them; and I knew that a boy buying all that alone would call attention, but it's done, and I hope the crown and the jewels are going to be fine there, and having a water "demon" sounds really cool, especially because he makes Chagum want to live, I hope it is benign.

For now I'm really loving this show. Everything is just so good, whether it be the characters, the atmosphere or the story.
I wouldn't be surprised if Balsa ended up becoming one my favorite characters in the end, she is great. It's unusual to see a mature female character with years of experience as the main lead, and she is very likable.

A slow episode that contained some more exposition about the Prince and why he needs to be killed and taken down due to him being possessed by an evil water spirit, and also showcases Balsa and Chagum meeting up with a couple of people acquainted with Balsa who clearly respect her and help her out a bit to prepare for leaving to the mountains. But news spreads quick and assassins are already out to get her despite the room being burned down back at where the Prince used to reside. Balsa's used to danger anyway but given the status of who she's taken to be the bodyguard for, its going to only be more hectic and chaotic. Interested to learn more about the world in the upcoming episodes.

Lots of excessive exposition in the first half, if there is one problem I have with anime it is characters explaining things in excruciating detailbfor the benefit of the audience when it makes no sense for them to do so in universe.

The tightly paced second half more than made up for it though. I love the  pan-Asian aesthetic of the world: not fully Japanese not fully Korean, not fully Chinese, a dash of the Himalayan kingdoms, sort of the Oriental equivalent to the generic European kingdoms we see in fairytales and old romances.

The exposition was a bit dull, it felt like the character was explaining the audience if they were getting the point of the story, things got better when the protagonists got the focus of the story back.

The hunters' apparition at the end was nice.

And as mentioned previously, the first half was somehow needlessly dragged with explanations. It felt like a classroom somehow. Just saying xD
