Both sides are reaching their climax in this match imo.

Lol, I love how Marou's opponent roars when he scored a few points in the second half. Priceless. A lot of pressure on Marou's shoulders but I think if he keeps his focus, he may be able to stay in this game. Nice match though this week.

Man I love Eichan's character so much. Usually during stuff like this, MCs would be way more overwhelmed. He's doing a great job other than what happened at the end when he saw Nabae lol. That gotta have hit him hard.

The audience is so damn annoying!!!

Nacchan finish ur friggin match and go cheer for Eichan!!! He needs the power of love to overcome the power of friendship XD

Did I just see what I think I saw in the PV??

Yes, I agree. The pace is quite slow. We'll probably need another season in my guess.

Anyways, Maruo is now trying to refocus and lower the amount of pressure on him.

Quite good episode, but it is slow in my opinion, as other also stated.

Well, in the end I strongly believe that Maruo will be the victor, but I don't know jack shit since i'm not reading the manga :p

Actually the pace is fast. They're doing like 4 or 5 chapters per episode.

It is normal for a sports anime to have a match last more than one episode.

Oh my God. I was half expecting Yosshi to wheel out his terminally ill grandmother who wanted to see her little boy win one last time... Crush him Maruo!

If he loses, he can't qualify for All Japan Junior. What do you think is he going to lose? lol.

I'll have to give it to Pierrot, they made the match against Ide super annoying, more so than the manga. Ide and his fucking posse always rubbed me the wrong way, and actually hearing the continuous and lopsided cheers puts me in Ei-chan's mental state.

Also, fuck that fucking kid on that wheelchair.

The crowd continues to get more and more annoying, but it was still somewhat bearable until some guys said "Neither of them giving in. It's down to who can hold serve. But Ide's the one playing better tennis." Like WTF bro! >.<

Ide himself is also being annoying with his "tat-ta, tatt, Da!, Bam" strategy and managing to win with the crowd cheering for him. As if that wasn't enough, the injured kid returns and made it twice as worse. Not really liking the "drama" that's building up around the game. >.<

I can only hope that Maruo will find a way to overcome all this. But with Nabae showing up at the game, the pressure on him just increased a notch. Nat-chan needs to come and balance it out.

This match was around 20 chps in the manga and all matches from now on will be as such so don't expect it to be less than 4 eps at least if not 5 even.

Ide and his crowd are a bunch of annoying twats. Poor Maruo. I feel for him. No wonder he feels a lot of pressure. Since this is only episode 17, my prediction is that he'll win (especially because if he looses this match, he'll give up on tennis so he can't possibly lose this one).

Mauro isn't only playing Ide, he's up against every shounen sports cliche in manga from the power of friendship to "I'll win it for the kid in the wheelchair". But if you paid close attention you may have noticed the odd cheer in the crowd for Mauro that wasn't coming from his friends. In some ways this is the most important match of his career, because up until now although Mauro has been doing very well in his matches and tournaments, he really has been flying under the radar. To become a successful pro, he not only has to win--he has to build a fan base and become a bit of a celebrity because the day to day living expenses often don't come from the tournament wins but from your sponsors. Beating Ide would be a tremendous step up in his name recognition among the fans.

In pretty much any shounen, Ide would be the hero and Maruo would be the bad guy. For some reason I find that to be quite hilarious!

Okay the kid had time to wait for his relatives to show up at the hospital and authorizing the surgery, then went through it, woke up, annoyed a nurse who had nothing better to do to drive him to a tennis court, and arrived for the second set..is there something lost in the translation or is their healthcare that good? Or perhaps a set is really really long...

lol, it's so true. this is a huge match for maruo where he has finally realised this is a spectator sport, and huge personalities/plays are rewarded with overwhelming encouragement.

Great episode. I knew Ide'd turn the tides and so the score's 1 for all. Tho I'm sure at some point in the match, Natsu'll cheer Maruo on and he'll win, so it should happen. Anyways, let's see what happens next.

I think people doesn't understand that everything about Ide is supposed to be a parody of the shonen hero.

Of course it is ridiculous for the kid to be there. Ide's world is intentionally over the top.

The mangaka created a shonen manga protagonist with all this circus and impossible things happening around him, and make that kind of character the oponent of his actual protagonist, Eiichiro.

Fun show, I'd radther watch this than prince of tennis, but it is rather predictable. The parts that are cool are when they are thinking on the fly, I'm into sports so I love the strategizing aspects to the show. The romantic hijinks is aight I guess, but obviously that doesn't sell the show. Its the great action sequences and character development.

I've spoken my mind on what's so interesting about Ide already, but that kid coming to cheer him on was the last straw! This is utterly unfair for Maruo, how in the world do you defeat the cheesy main character who powers up from having his back against the wall and playing clutch?! I've never seen any story attempt to set up even the writing stereotypes and flags against the main character like this. This is crazy. Keep in mind the line that's had so much prevalence already "the player having the most fun is the winner". In this case this exact situation is what's fun to Ide so even our one liners of advice are going against Maruo.

I love the advice for fighting an intuitive player as a logical player. The advice of downloading their habits and behaviors, visualizing them in your head as the match is beginning, and once your opponent starts moving look at them and concentrate. If they adapt, as an intuitive player does, take the loss to relax and sink the new data into your head. Finally if they're adapting recognize how and get riskier, refuse to let them figure you out. All this is amazing and I can see why it legitimately would work. You let your body act and trust your instinct while circumventing the threats the opponent is bringing. However, I assume we'll get some even better advice next episode when Maruo presumably destroys this scoundrel.

All I want is Maruo to Yusuke style flip off the crowd and tell them to shut up. I can't wait for Natsu to show up and cheer for our hero while probably inspiring Kageyama and Sasaki to join in too. Let's have a cheer war!

I also predict Maruo will get some insight imagining what Nabae is learning from this.

I honestly felt attacked with all that cheering for Ide, haha. Just like stated before, Ide is getting better by the pressure, by the end. Unfortunate, but Ei-chan doesn't have that ability, instead he feels fatigue. However, the climax is here.

This episode was good, but man it had its cheesy moments. Like when the wheelchair kid showed up and Ide pointed to him after scoring a point against Maruo. I get all of that, but man that's taking good guy to a whole other level.

Maruo's lost the 2nd set after Ide kept on improving with his timing and shots game by game, even including Ide being able to break him too. Kinda sucks for Maruo since he only has 3 people in that entire audience who is rooting for him while everyone else is rooting for Ide, especially after the wheelchair kid showed up. Maruo's at least still trying to defeat him no matter what, cause his journey with tennis is on the line and while he is happy the kid is fine, fuck that guy and the crowd trying to hope for your loss when your future is on the line, you have to shut them up with a win no matter what.

Sasaki trying to cheer loudly at one point for Maruo was awkward yet cute though ngl.
