Didn't expect so many deaths.

Their relationship didn't feel all that developed and there were too many villains; thus rather one-dimensional and they were a too over the top.

The ultimate battle between sukeban and oujosama!
It's hard to not see this specific anime in Kill la Kill's DNA, (even though KLK references the live action Sukeban Deka in its credits sequence)

Ayumi was really my type, but clearly she flew too close to the sun by trying to be both oujo and sukeban.
Too bad she was evil and died or else she would have been my queen lol

Overall these two episodes make a great movie, but I find that my enjoyment is a little lower than a different action girl anime like Dirty Pair or Kill la Kill because of the somber and dark tone of this anime.

It was pretty entertaining at first but the second episode didn't really click for me for some reason. It might be because of the constant screaming, everyone dying, and the Mizuchi sisters being bitches in general.

Despite this being called Kill la Kill's inspiration, I didn't really see much resemblance to the anime except for Saki's stoic but easily and adorably peeved demeanor.

Boy am I glad that's over

This episode in particular was just full of screaming, it was incredibly annoying. The story was supremely dumb and shallow also. Character motivations, especially the Mizuchi Sisters were paper thin and so incredibly generic. Teenage Rich Girls obsessed with money, art and taking over the world and somehow this is meant to be interesting?

I don't know I just couldn't take a single bit of this seriously, I mean there isn't an ounce of reality in this. Like every student falling under the spell of these sisters just because they have money? And what sort of school was it exactly, you'd think private given the attitude of some of the students and the sisters but then there were a bunch of thugs also. Then there is the main character, a badass teen girl who with her Yo-Yo apparently becomes the next Jack Bauer, dragged back in to solve shit the police can't handle on their own. I mean really, just really?

It's weird because the reasons this OVA annoyed me are normally things I have often looked over or not even really thought about with other OVAs and Anime series in general. But in this it really bothered me to no end. I think the reason is because this story takes itself too seriously, that's the issue I think because on it's surface nothing about this should really be taken seriously at all, it's very silly so I just couldn't lose myself in it.

If it was more campy and over the top in a whole different way then maybe but in it's current state of straight talking melodrama mixed with Yo-Yo's, Rich Psycho Girls and the like it just didn't work for me at all. A few here compared this to Kill La Kill which was influenced by the Live Action series and I think that self awareness in Kill La Kill is exactly what this was missing.

Animation was fairly decent, though just as I mentioned on the last episode the character designs are pretty bad, especially for the Mizuchi Sisters.

Yeah anyway 3/10 for me unfortunately.

This second episode was not as strong as the first one, which I felt just oozed style, but damn was it satisfying seeing those psychos get done in. This was a fun watch.

It is way too easy to fall in love with Saki.

I don't think you were supposed to. We've got an ojousama wearing camo underneath her dress who hypnotizes her fellow students with psychedelic patterns and an innocent girl being killed so a rich girl can copy her painting. not to mention the main premise of the OVA being a yo-yo wielding delinquent detective tracking down the people who blew up two buses full of students just to create openings at a private school....yeah doesn't look they were ever going for realism with this one. It could be dark, sure, but it seems to me that they quite purposefully made it as over-the-top as possible. Having characters react to the tragedy of a death, that adds to the drama and the weight and of the conflict, but that doesn't suggest that the story they're trying to tell is supposed to be taken seriously.

Damn, again many people died, including Junko. :(

I liked this show. Main character, Saki, was really awesome. I wish this series was longer. Strong female main character fighting evil with yo-yo is such an original concept.

The animation could've been better, especially when it's OVA after all, but it was not that bad.

That was badass! I'm surprised this anime isn't popular among old-school fans. I only learned of it after reading an even more obscure manga by the same creator.

Wait, did they just place a girl and a boy in one prison cell? Uncommon. Nobody even bothered to confiscate her Yo-Yo :p

Saki's red shirt is badass as hell but how does she hide her Yo-Yo in her sleeve (?) or an armband...

If not for the defect in Ayumi's shotgun, Saki and Sanpei would've been dead due to her silliness lol. Should've used her weapon instead of jumping on Sanpei x) Also the gun just disappeared without any sign xD

Saki managed to climb on a chandelier without getting noticed x) Well, Emi's dream of fame got fulfilled...in a way.

But damn, those were some crazy fights, with some Dezaki-esque shots. Though I wish the "final boss" fight was a little bit less repetitive. Jin scored a badass headshot. I'm pretty sure Remi's hand is too small for those handcuffs but whatever.

There were quite some Dezaki-esque shots in the show (I liked them), even though not always appropriate, like everyone gasping dramatically with a still shot ensuring the emphasis x) Some scenes getting repeated thrice are also exemplar of Dezaki-inspired style. There were also some interesting frames (through the window/a secret storage in the wall/Remi's eye).

P.S. Somebody in the thread hates on the show, oh well. I never expected Sukeban Deka to be super realistic or anything, I mean it's the series where the famous poster of a schoolgirl with a big bazooka comes from.

P.P.S. TIL that Sukeban Deka mangaka and the live-action adaptation director both died in 2011 with a 4 day gap. Wow.

This was so over the top stupid it was really enjoyable. And I don't say stupid as an insult, but more in like a comedic way. These girls are not delinquents, they're full on super-villains! It became so absurd at the end and just kept ramping up where you just can't take it seriously anymore and just enjoy it for how crazy it gets. I liked it a lot more than I expected to. The guy staring down the gatling gun of the helicopter and just calmly fires his revolver and shoots the guy right between the eyes. :D
C'mon, how could you not love this. It was like a cheesy 80s action movie like Commando with absurd but cool action.

Junko went out sad.

Remi is a vicious bitch who killed her family...and she's hiding a military uniform for SM play under her ojou-san clothes.

Quite enjoyed this OVA. It kinda was the shoujo version of a campy delinquent anime. 70s style meets 90s is also an absolute W.

@BlaizeV Same reason there are series where teen boys are the protagonist. Is it really hard for a teen girl to be a badass?

@Adnash There's a manga, but yeah... Back then, more Shoujo was adapted into anime, but some of them were merely OVAs. A full remake and adaptation of Sukeban Deka, with 12 or 13 episodes, would make waves.

Honestly, I enjoyed the series. It was fun and so over the top. I wish it were longer. Seriously, we need a full remake and adaptation. Like 12 or 13 episodes.

@LuxuriousHeart not at all, I just didn't like this OVA and bashed out some reason for it straight after. I just couldn't get into it at all but I try to finish stuff so most of my rantings were me blowing off steam after getting through it.

I'm happy you and others enjoyed it. :)

This episode felt kinda rushed, especially the whole part where there is some sort of fast forwards where they find the doctor who made the drugs and arrest the corrupt cop or find the evidence.

Still, I'm impressed they did kill Junko rather than just having her being saved.
However, I think It could have been better with a third episode with the second ending with the confrontation with Ayumi and everything else being in the third episode.
