| Each show gets the same amount of jokes and references made at its expense, I would definitely watch every show before starting this for maximum enjoyment. |

| Youjo senki & overlord are probably the two shows you can get away the most with having not seen, though you can try watching those two shows at some point. |

| The humour seems to be mainly based around the interactions between the characters, so knowing them will help. I think if you watched the first 3 episodes of both shows you'd understand the characters well enough to get most of the jokes. Neither of them are just watch animes in my opinion. |

| Just a personal opinion but having watched all four in their entirety, I can for certain that this show is very entertaining and the jokes on point for the most bit! There haven’t plenty of jokes or references to Youjo Senki yet that is out of the blue but those subtle ones are hilarious if you’ve experienced the tv series beforehand. |

| I think all you need to know about Overlord are the characters and since they are all pretty flat, they are NPCs after all, their personalities are pretty obvious. Youjo Senki doesnt seem to add any in universe joke, being x is the scumbag who plays god and sent Tanya to a world of hell (think WW1 style) All of the school staff are from her military, except for Roswall, thats it. |
