On first glance, this Wonderful Poster gives me the impression that it’ll indeed be a Side-Story with a New Character and the Official Website hints too (violet-evergarden.jp/sidestory/) but could a novel reader please confirm on this?

I've read half of the Gaiden novel (chapter 1 to 3) and the title of the Gaiden movie is the title of chapter 2. And according to the new visual it will probably show the story of this chapter.
The girl next to Violet on the visual is the main character of this chapter (Amy Bartlett). She's not an original character created for the anime although they've changed her design compared to the novel's illustrations.

I'm a little sad because her story is my least favorite of all yet it get a 91 minutes movie ^^' so my hopes aren't high but I hope people will like it.

I don't know how they'll handle it because 91 minutes seems a bit long for this story.
I mean for the chapters that have been adapted in the anime they didn't show everything about the characters compared to the novel because in one episode you can't developp everything but still it was well done. But 91 minutes for one story... and particularly Amy's... I don't know.

I think they did really well with the standalone-ish episodes during the tv run though, so I have hope they’ll do the same (if not better) with this bit too!

Well, we'll see. I didn't really like the fillers episodes except for Luculia story and the extra episode. I was also disappointed by how they changed the Flying Letters event and the train attack. The other chapters based on the novel were great (Leon, Oscar, Ann and Aidan stories) but they didn't adapt two of my favorite chapters and I'm sad to see that Amy's story is the one that get a movie since I didn't like it much =/

Yeah... I don't know why directors need to add new characters and stories when the original material provides them everything. They spent two episode on Erica and Iris (which are anime characters only) while we would could see Lux and Silene stories... T_T
And I don't think we'll see them in the 2020 movie since it will be an original story (unless they include novel content but I'm not confident about it).

I can’t confirm but I think I’ve heard that they do include some bits from the novel in the upcoming 2020 Movie too. Well, whatever the case, I have hopes that Ishidate Taichi’s Directing will do the trick!

Charlotte appears in the Gaiden (chapter 1). Oscar, Ann, Aidan and Leon appear in volume 1 of the novel.

I'm not confident with Taichi Ichidate being behind this adaptation but let's hope. =)
