DMM Pictures announced a second anime season for Junpei Inuzuka's Isekai Shokudou (Restaurant to Another World) light novel on Friday. The production company also opened an official website, revealing new staff and a teaser visual (pictured above).

Masato Jinbo (Senryuu Shoujo, Chaos;Child) is returning from the first season to direct and handle the series composition at animation studio OLM (Utawarerumono, Odd Taxi). Yasukazu Shouji (Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama, Go-Go Tamagotchi!) is designing the characters, replacing Takao Sano and Keiichi Sano.

Junichi Suwabe (Demi-chan wa Kataritai), Sumire Uesaka (Musaigen no Phantom World), and Saori Oonishi (Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu mama.) are reprising as Tenshu, Aletta, and Kuro, respectively.

Silver Link. produced the 12-episode first anime season in Summer 2017. Crunchyroll simulcast the show with subtitles, while Funimation streamed an English dub. The latter released the anime series on home video in North America in November 2019.

Inuzuka began penning the slice of life fantasy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in January 2013. Shufunotomo began publishing the series under its Hero Bunko imprint with illustrations by Katsumi Enami (Baccano) in February 2015 and shipped the fifth volume in March 2019. Isekai Shokudou has a cumulative 1.1 million copies of its volumes in print.

Takaaki Kugatsu serialized a four-volume manga adaptation in Young Gangan from November 2016 to June 2019. Manga artist duo Yamizawa-Morozawa will launch a new manga adaptation subtitled Youshoku no Nekoya in the June issue of Monthly Shounen Ace on April 26 (pictured right).

Seven Seas Entertainment and Yen Press licensed the light novel and manga adaptation in English in November 2018 and 2019, respectively. The fifth novel volume and fourth manga volume shipped on February 26 and March 9.

So considering how Crunchyroll funded this heavily it seems like Silver Link decided to not do the sequel. The first season while good, was a production mess and I am going to blame CR. Hopefully this looks better than the first. A shame a good staff and studio had to bleed for this project but the anime story was good.

I'm honestly baffled as to how there can be a second season considering there's hardly any content left after what the anime covered, at least as far as the light novels go (which it adapts). Is this just going to be a bunch of anime-original content?

I wonder if they'll be using the staff that worked on the new Major seasons or if the director will get some of the people who worked on the first season to come back for it.

The anime doesn't even cover the first two novels in full, it only adapts bits and pieces. There's at least 5 novels out (volume 5 released in english 2 months ago), plenty of material to go around.

Is that so? I remember reading somewhere here on MAL that the anime adapted through Volume 4 or 5 and that there hasn't been any new volumes released since then.

That was probably for the manga version, which ran for close to 30 chapters, so probably about 4-5 volumes.

Oh, one of the few modern isekai out there that actually seems interesting is getting a sequel? Man, I should really watch the first season sometime.

Man, I remember this being such a treat to watch during my early days of seasonal watching. So glad to have this back and thanks to everyone involved to make this possible ~

Talk about an unexpected surprise though...

Expecting more of the same old good feeling!

Edit: @KANLen09 Yeah, almost certain to in the near future as well, innit?

And yeah xD, quite the seasonal rush I’ve been under since then.

What a pleasant surprise for this to get Season 2, totally unexpected since I thought that Silver Link did a good job on Season 1 amidst some issues.

Crunchyroll is nothing to do here, is not listed as producer or licensor (the main one was Funimation). Also, Silver Link is not listed as a producer so they don't have the decision to do a sequel.

One of the biggest yet happiest surprises I've seen. I would have never imagined this getting a second season, yet here it is.... I loved the first season. There were a few problems, but I didn't think there was anything very wrong with the production. I thought it looked really nice overall, which is what this type of show needed, and I hope it continues that way with this one. I really can't wait for this one. Especially during such dire times, a great combination of something so soothing, yet rather adventurous (in a way, since we explore a variety of lore) without exaggerated anime tropes was needed.

I even showed this series to my family and a couple of anime-loving acquaintances, and they thought it was nice too. Am instantly looking forward to this very much. ^__^

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

This was totally unexpected, but I do welcome this news, though.

The first season was simple and relaxing, definitely a hidden gem of the Summer 2017 list (it also had one of my favourite ED songs in all of 2017, too), so I do look forward to seeing what the second season has to offer this time around. =)

This is baffling. I dropped the first as it was formulaic, predictable and boring, and I tend to like slice of life.
It's interesting to see people who enjoyed it, as I didn't imagine there'd be any, but it might be survivor bias.

The first season, while having bits of wholesomeness here and there, has raised so many drop flags that I never thought of it getting a continuation. Kinda disappointed that others don't get the same treatment, but I'm adding this to PTW anyway.

My hype is immeasurable.

This is one of those shows that I absolutely loved despite most others not seeming to care for it much. The pacing and writing of the interesting world and characters despite each one only getting so much time, on top of a beautifully wholesome and relaxing vibe, reminiscent of going to a wonderful little eatery and observing all the regulars while becoming one yourself...
I truly hope this second season can deliver more of the same, soul soothing goodness.
