The official website of the NieR:Automata Ver1.1a television anime series announced on Saturday that the broadcast of episode 4 and onward will be postponed until further notice due to the impact of COVID-19 on the production. The series will rebroadcast the first 3 episodes starting January 29.

Ryouji Masuyama (Blend-S) is directing the anime series at A-1 Pictures. Masuyama is also in charge of the series composition alongside the video game's original creator Taro Yoko. Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo) is serving as both the character designer and chief animation director. MONACA (Summertime Render) is composing the music.

The anime series adapts PlatinumGames' NieR:Automata action role-playing game, which was published by Square Enix on PlayStation 4 in Japan in February 2017, followed by North America and PAL countries in March of that year. The game was also released on PC in the same month and on Xbox One in June 2018. The game serves as a sequel to the 2010 video game NieR—a spin-off to the Drakengard game series.

Reminds me of the time when Aniplex was pressuring CloverWorks, now they are going after A-1
I believe they just aren't doing it with ufotable because they know ufotable takes its time to polish their work

Regardless of whether or not it's actually COVID or it's a coverup excuse, this is unfortunate news. Hope things get better sooner rather than later.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Take me back to the days before MAL became infested with Twitter's favorite buzzwords.

sound like very close deadline getting crunched by recent covid wave in china considering they rely heavily from freelancer from there. still bad schedule to not prepared for emergency especially in post covid era. it still episode 4 ffs. any decent scheduling company would already finish at least 8 episode before first episode aired. this sound like they give fuck all to covid and back to precovid era where only first 3 episode done when first episode aired then completed last episode in last second.

Now it's make sense why CGI in this garbage is so atrocious.
Postponed? No, don't postpone it, just cancel the production and we pretend that this anime doesn't exist.

I'm excited to watch this show, but I may wait until it's over. I don't want another Megaton Musashi situation.

Another production using corona as an excuse. Because of the culture of respect in Japan no one is willing to call them out on their bullshit over there.

Same as was with 86. It is just an excuse for a bad production, I agree. Pity, thank God there are many other GOOD series to watch this season.

Ultimately, Nier is too high-profile to have anything keep it from being the best anime adaptation it can be. Delays certainly suck, but it's better than releasing a half-assed product with some potential fixes queued up to be included in a physical release later on. I hope it won't be delayed for too long.

Anyway, after Uncle, I'm starting to feel stronger and stronger 2020s vibes. That time it was also at the beginning of the year.

Damm thats unfortunate news.
Was really enjoying the series so far as well.
Going by the fact that its going on hiatas for that long its spread must be pretty widespread.

Hopefully the studio staff as well as any seiyuu's that might have been caught up in it be able to make a swift recovery soon.

I guess this "postponed because of Covid" BS excuse is indeed spreading like a virus among studios now.

Unless it's actually the case. Then, "get well soon!" I guess...

Conviniently, COVID only affects studios with some sort of internal drama. The pathogen is becoming sentient or something?

yep most studios are located in tokyo and they have constant contact with each other via outsourcing and sharing freelance animators so if its really covid it will spread to some other studios aswell

Unfortunate, but it’s better than a cancellation at least, so I’ll take it.

I've heard that the animation was outsourced to China quite a bit, makes sense that Covid would have an impact. They should probably just keep this one postponed until they have the episodes all finished in advance honestly. Unfortunate that it's happened, but Aniplex should make sure that it doesn't happen again.

Welp, that serves its title "Ver1.1a". They failed the experimental. They should cancel the series already.

So many "cancel this show, it is not ideal" people as of late. First with Chainsawman, now here. And I am seriously not sure if they are trolling or just not right in their head.

It's already deviated from the game, I'd consider it an original production now. Given the game has 26 Endings, consider this as the 27th route.

This "COVID" has been used as an excuse for months now, tbh I'm not surprised with this, let's hope that they'll do their work in a close future

It's been some months now and it's stuck at episode 8, there haven't been any updates since?

So far nope. Other long-delayed anime from Winter are finally coming back this Summer (Maou Gakuen S2 and Ayakashi Triangle are restarting from the start in July). I think Nier is the last one in the big Winter delay batch that's missing at this point.

I was curious, because this article said they stopped at episode 3.
On Crunchyroll, they have eight and after that episode, it stopped which lead me here.
I was just wondering myself because I haven't found anything myself on it and was wondering if it had actually gotten dropped by episode 8.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for answering though
