Novelist Tokuya Higashigawa's rather dated novel series is quite the intriguing detective series.

Kento Nakajima's OP composed by Hiroyuki Sawano sounds decent alright, but nothing fancy. Same with Billy Boo's ED.

The prestiged lady of Reiko Hosho attending the high-profile birthday celebration of Goro Kiryuin's 60th anniversary, alongside her friends of Ayaka Kiryuin, Kaori Miyamoto and Hinako Mori, Reiko is only a cover for the true person coming on his way: the eccentric detective of Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri, with Reiko being a police detective as her true identity.

The attack on Mizuho Teshirogi by a woman in a red dress wearing a green gem, found by the associate relation of Yuuji Mayama, prompting Kazamatsuri to find those in red dresses, calling into question Reiko's friends, as well as one more woman of Chiaki Nagase. But for the Teshirogi heir of Kazuya to just suddenly prompt a proposal to her (which feels out of place), Kazamatsuri is deflated, so their only reference is Mizuho's legal advisor Yuujji Mayama...and even that alibi got shot down. That forces Kazamatsuri to choose his culprit between Reiko's friends on a deadline, and to hear the case can be solved from the new butler and attendant of Kageyama, anything goes for a timeline crunch.

Decent start I guess...

I was already laughing from the start.
Reiko is super rich, an heiress and all, but she’s out there showing up at crime scenes like it’s her weekend hobby 😂 And then there’s Kazamatsuri, who’s basically an ego-driven detective with zero actual investigative skills. The guy is so confident it’s hilarious — like, he spots one clue and immediately starts putting on a dramatic performance like he’s solved the whole case… only to be totally wrong!

Reiko is the one who really has a nose for solving things, but the funniest part is how she handles everything with this almost zen-like patience when it comes to Kazamatsuri(not all the time). I found their chemistry fun to watch — feels like the show is going to focus a lot on this dysfunctional duo.

The case itself wasn’t anything major, just an introductory one, but it did a good job setting the tone of the series: part mystery, part social comedy, with that charming "rich people solving crimes for fun" vibe. Visually it looks nice, and the soundtrack is classy — really fits the overall style of the show.

I’m curious to see if Kazamatsuri will actually grow as a character or just stay the comic relief in a suit. For now, all I can say is: if he’s the “lead detective,” Reiko better never take a vacation 😆

I am facing the same problem. I have been waiting for the past 3 hours to watch this episode but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Even sailing the seas, all I see is just 1 upload without subs, and unfortunately my Japanese isn't good enough to watch a dialogue heavy show and not miss important details. I don't mind if I have to wait a day or two for a proper release but I would honestly appreciate some confirmation at the very least.

@Mari_Marx Ah if only I had seen your reply earlier because that's exactly what I ended up doing as well haha. Anyway, I am gonna share my version of the English subtitles here as well in case anyone else wants to use it until we get a proper release

English subtitles that are good enough except for few misspellings of last name of a character:

Is this gonne have romance?
@Ridwanbtw It's possible, but unlikely as a main focus. The original work (a mystery novel) and the tone of the anime lean more towards lighthearted mystery than romantic development.

In the live-action adaptation, for example, there's no direct romance either. There's a bit of light tension, but nothing that goes deeper — the charm lies more in the “mismatched duo who have to work together” dynamic.

@EdibleMuffin yes, i use the site capcut so i upload the video and i go to subtitles and wait a bit so i have a .srt subtitle of the original language of the video and after it, i just translate to my native idiom. The translation isn't that good since it's too literal, but it gets the job done.

The show overall was fine. To understand the story more, I’ll just have to watch more, since not much about the characters or their backgrounds has been revealed.

Reiko is working as a detective while hiding her family background so she can be treated like any other detective out there. Kyouichirou’s a funny guy—I’m not sure about his skills at this job, but he definitely knows how to make me laugh with his clownish behavior. And finally, there’s Kageyama. I think out of all three, he’s the most perceptive and clever one with a sharp tongue.

I'd read the first volume of the novel like from more than 10 years and completely forgot everything, of course! So this is a fresh start for me.
I would say that the inspector Kazamatsuri is annoying, stupid, and useless. He completely ruined the vibes for me.

Honestly, it was quite a solid 1st episode.

We got the introduction of all the main characters, as well as to some information how the female lead. The characters seem quite charismatic, and the idea of 2 Detectives that clearly don't know what they're doing, and a Buttler that will be the Big Brain is actually amusing.
The episode was quite fast paced, but I supposed it was to make the 1st episode end with this revelation of the Buttler, so I suppose the next episodes are going to take their time.

The animation actually looks quite good, although some of the backgrounds have a artstyle that kinda clashes a bit, especially the one right after the opening.

Talking about the opening, I wasn't expecting an opening by Sawano Hiroyuki, and it's really good! And the ending is by a group I didn't hear from (Billy Boo), but the ending was really nice too.

Overall, I think this anime as quite some potential, the voice actors are doing a fantastic job, the animation is good for a Detective anime, and it seems we might get good OST too!

Really curious to see who's the killer (not really Killer, since the girl didn't die). It seems it is Reiko's friend, the one that was in love with that man, but I feel like that would be too obvious.

Never watched an anime about Detectives and crime scenes, so I'm really curious to see how this anime will play out! So far, it got my attention!

Edit: Corrected a spelling error. Also, I think this anime will be a fun ride!

@IzanaSolos because this anime literally would make more money than anything old madhouse would jhave made
its a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noitamina
block anime which madhouse has alkways done
and had a successful live action which is what matters in jp
so ofc madhouse would seize the chance to adapt it
It's good that Slop leveling won the CR awards with such a power gap, Gaijin Weebs don't deserve good anime.

This and butler sayonji's great deduction are two such mysteries where the butler solves the cases.

Started fine and interesting, then turned into shitty comedy over the top show. Kazamatsuri is as annoying as one character can get. I don't think they could have made him any more annoying. When in a mystery show one character knows things without explanation it's just stupidly annoying and ruins the fun of mystery. And the shit proposal in the middle, give me a fucking break. Cliche over cliche. Not to mention logic is severely lacking in every aspect.

This is an immediate drop for me. Too bad, I was looking forward to a mystery detective anime.

This is the first anime of the Spring season I am going to drop. I usually only watch sub if a dub has not been released, and I can say without a doubt in my mind, this is one of the worst dubs I have ever experienced in my life. The voice acting is so stiff + they all sound like robots.

OK, this is hilarious, I loved every minute of it.
More of a parody than an actual detective show, mocking every trope, lamp shading, genre savvy jokes...the works.
With perfect comic delivery by Kana Hanazawa, Mamoru Miyano, Yuuki Kaji, my personal favourite from this cast (maybe because she appears on many Trigger shows) Arisa Shida (I hope her character is a recurrent one) and many more (like this episode had a lot of characters).

Tho, there's one dark spot and it's a quirk of the translation.
Last season the subs added unnecessary french to Sentai Red Isekai de Boukensha ni Naru and now apparently it's time for italian in Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de.
Some translators are leaning to stereotypes and prejudice. Which country will be the next victim...Spain, Germany?

Kiryuuin Ayaka had a few cameo in 2 other cases and the movie where the mystery was set on a titanic like ship on the way to Singapore.
But it could be different in anime. I don't see the absolute comedy duo of the traffic department. Their interactions with detective kazamatsuri were highlight of the best comedies thanks to the Detective misunderstanding everything.
Also the forensic department chief had a crush on main character hosho. I don't see him listed as a character.
Also this case is bit different from the one I saw.

I wonder if they would be included in the anime.
Anyway I glad you like it. This is old mystery series I really appreciate and it finally made a anime series after 15 years.

Aside of romance it's also sci-fi and mystery. No idea if it will stay as good as the first episode (apparently they are rushing the abaptation), but so far, so good.
