It's quite interesting that Nihonbashi eventually developed into the financial center of Japan, a place of Tokyo Stock Exchange and Bank of Japan. But maybe it's already the financial center of Japan since Edo period, which mean whoever has a shop there must be rich as hell. In fact, I just did a calculation and find out that a land of Ichitarou's house must be worth at least ten billion dollars in current age.

A wonderful look at Ichitarou's half brother Matsunosuke daily life and trials. I hope he can connect with his brother soon.

The attitudes towards the head clerk's cat killing are an interesting historical cultural detail. It really helps put things into context when a period story like this shows how different the period's culture and moral code is.

@Jimgus Indeed, that would be absolute disgrace for someone these days.

I hadn't expected the plot to develop into a direction like this, but I like it.
Hopefully there will be more spirits again next week, though ;)

This episode was brilliant; engaging, entertaining, and filled with intrigue! They did a great job of making me care about these new characters, I was genuinely so engrossed in the story. Omichi, the daughter, is such a perfidious woman. She really fooled me, at first! And the cat (/dog) killing plot was gruesome. I kinda wanted to see the family die if I'm being honest. Apart from the apathetic dad, they've all shown themselves to be rotten in some way.

On another note, I want to compliment the directing. This show is always spruce, but it felt especially beautiful and purposeful in this installment.

Matsunosuke coming that close to putting rat poison in the well was kind of shocking and hard to believe. Really? And he knew that it was enough to kill several people.

Not sure why they allocated an entire episode to Matsunosuke's situation, but maybe he's important...
