Chronically online, the anime. Looks like Tougen Anki will have some competition for the most mid battle shonen I’ve ever seen award because holy shit what is this 😭 saw first ep as part of CR’s sneak peak event tonight, it was an unannounced addition and I wish they’d have kept it out tbh. It’s a somewhat interesting premise that serves as a social commentary for how much of our lives we give to social media and our phones, but the MC is just so cringe and I couldn’t take anything seriously even with Akarin’s death and her ghost haunting her LINE. Wanted this to end way faster than it did lmao. Animation is mediocre, Aoiringo is going to annoy the hell out of me I can tell and it generally just feels like a very subpar show. Taking bets for over under 6.3 on MAL lol

It did feel like a bit of a rushed prologue to the actual story but it wasn't too bad. The visuals were fine as well, nothing stood out too much either way. It made me think of something like Blue Exorcist between the talk of the school and the literal blue flames. Premise isn't bad either but they could have given the explanation more impact instead of just trying to be relevant to the times.

@Marinate1016 As a manga reader, I would agree with some criticisms but I don’t agree with enishiro being annoying, he’s actually a pretty silly guy for the most part in the manga and doesn't do (controversial) stuff in terms of being “cringe” except for his early aoringo persona. Is it hella generic in some aspects? Yeah lol but it’s still pretty charming as the series goes on. I def recommend checking out the manga if you haven’t already. I think what’s going being meh with the series is that the animation will be ass.

@Marinate1016 Read a few chapters and don't let someone else's rating decide that. You might miss out on something charming. Just read the first chapter and the story does rank for a 6.

Anyone remembers the harrowing nightmare that was last Summer's Necronomico no Cosmic Horror Show? Forget that, because mangaka Shizumu Watanabe has you covered with this show, which is pretty much the same thing Necronomico is, but better. Haru Igarashi's OP is fairly good, even fairly competent at that. The persona of online streamer Aoringo being pretty much labelled as an online troll, though in reality, it's high schooler Soji Enishiro raking in the money to help his ailing sister Akari who's stuck in the hospital for medical reasons, and is someone who is for better words, kind-natured and family-loving. It's only when others try to get in his way, like a boy of his mage armed with quite the sledgehammer to cause hurt, though even his lil' sis death is also fake as well...? For a while, Soji didn't believe in his sister's death, until his replies with her on LINE captured her reply, be it in her ghostly affair that the siscon will not let go of. And as it turns out, Akari isn't real either, it's a figment of a Dead Account that the young man has to exorcise with the help of his smartphone before his very eyes. And with him being held back by Soji not wanting him to destroy Akari's figment, the latter has to accept the fact that his sister is not the same, now as a ghoul. Soji fighting back Blue Exorcist style with his smartphone, knowing full well that he would never see Akari again, and the agency of which Kukuru Kasubata comes from, they sure have quite the case on their hands. Miyu Kaneko's ED is vibes. Interesting series to boot, since I've been wanting to read the manga for quite some time. The anime will serve as a good bridge for this.

It's amazing how I don't watch the supernatural genre and as an anime only I have no idea of the original source material and already I feel as though I've seen this exact premise done a million times better a million times before. Putting aside the obvious Bleach comparisons, even I think the usage of social media is cool, we've seen this premise, this protagonist and this sort of supernatural battles done better before. The MC is likable enough and the ending, while familiar, does really feel emotionally nice but the lackluster production quality isn't doing this show any favors. I may keep watching but I suspect I'll drop this. No offense to the production team.

This hits hard, reminds of blue exorcist, tougen anki but with ghost like denkin no Mogura or dark gathering and dead social media accounts like kumiko aso Japanese drama dele. But it was heartbreaking to see akari suffer from illness, during surgery and also in death. May she rest in peace now, poor little girl..

This is just Digimon but with ghosts. We got the title drop and meaning 5 seconds in lol. Was obvious what was gonna happen but still got emotional with the sister death. But this is just your typical shounen and has dialogues on the level of tougen anki from a season back. The black guy already feels annoying, specially with zero communication skill. Mc looks and acts like Asta from black clover. OP/ED were both meh, ed visuals were nice though.

Interesting concept. At first I thought the protagonist will die but will revive through his social account, turns out it's the only way around, he's alive and has to prevent the dead from coming to our world. If Soji think streaming him beating random people make a lot of money, wait until he discover OnlyFans where he can gain ten times more without beating anything but his meat. Or he can just knock on my door...

@Marinate1016 Bizarre how many trolls MAL now has. So much so, you just can't take the ratings seriously on here anymore, with unusual and well-produced anime in the new season getting slammed in the ratings while the same teenage-boys-wet-dream crap we get every season gets massively overrated. First episode was excellent -- unusual premise, very fluid animation, pretty art style, cool protagonist and well written. Superb voice acting as well. Very interested to see where this goes.

Not a bad first ep at all, pretty entertaining. That said, the translation of the final line of the fight between flambe and his sis is a perfect example of why freedom of localization can be a bad thing. Translated as 'come with me', showing her obsession with bringing him over to the other side, but she used the extremely common term for 'it hurts', showing that the ghost was trying to manipulate him at the end and that the sister he loved was truly dead. It's a subtle thing but for shows like this dealing in chills, subtlety is important.

She has an incredibly distinctive voice, I've never heard any others that sound like her. It must be, right? If not, I've got a new favorite to add to my list alongside her |

Can I copy your homework, yeah just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious. People already commented on that this took inspiration from many other series, but I also got strong Demon Slayer episode 1 vibes from how desperately the MC was clinging to his sister, who turned into a ghost and the guy targeting her. To be fair, the social media aspect is at least fresh and fitting this era. Putting aside originality, problem with many modern shounen is that they're way too fast paced and that they're trying too hard to start with a bang.

I always find it a bit of a struggle for an anime when the protagonist comes from outside a supernatural world and every new person around them acts like they’re touting basic information. Because everyone would be confused as hell if a guy broke into your house and asked to let them destroy your phone

Why score is this bad
@Animequeen_xx During the last year or two, MAL has been inundated with trolls who downrate anything that isn't exactly like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen. If it has an unusual plot, they especially hate it (look at Ganglion's ratings -- a brilliantly smart anime now downrated to a stupidly low 6.05 by fools), and if an anime "offends" them, it had better be burned until it's completely dead. I wouldn't mind if they watched a few episodes and then downrated an anime, but these people don't even have the patience to watch a full 20 minute first episode without slamming it with a 3 out of 10. It's the same reason why My Drama List (MDL) is no longer thought of as a reputable site for Asian drama ratings. Too many trolls have downrated hundreds of dramas on that site (dramas they're not usually even watching) and so now nobody believes any of the ratings on the site. Same is now happening on MAL, and it will likely continue until the site's ratings becomes a joke. All caused by people who think their taste is "better than everyone else's" when, in reality, they never step out of the box but just want the same tired junk that's been releasing for years. The same people who have massively downrated 'An Adventurer's Daily Grind at Age 29' because ONE second of a scene right at the end, which hasn't even been explained yet, "offended" them. In other words, never make your decisions on what anime to watch based on MAL ratings. They are no longer reliable. Only good thing about any of this is, thank f*ck the Japanese couldn't care less what these people think, and so we still get second and third seasons of the anime these people hate.

@Animequeen_xx Oh and what really pisses me off about these idiots, people who couldn't create something themselves if they were given a crack animation team and $50 million, is some of these anime take YEARS to create, tens of thousands of man hours, and a huge amount of emotional investment, only for some idiot who has never put in the amount of work on ANYTHING these animation studios put in to watch 10 minutes of Episode 1 and label it "crap" or "mid" Boggles the mind the stupidity. But here we are. The modern anime "fan".
