Welp, they didn't waste time with this season. First episode of the final season and there's already a hunt for a wanted criminal.

The goofy moments I remember are also back especially with Asirpa. A fair amount of characters made their reappearances but yeah, the mix of drama, comedy, etc made this worth it. Sugimoto is still a badass and taking care of business. Good to see this anime return.

After how sloppy and painfully below average last season was, I’m not as excited for this show as I used to be back in the earlier seasons. Even so, this was one hell of a way to start the final season. We’ve got the whole Season 2 crew back in Sapporo, plus Tsurumi and his entire division, everyone’s here. Different reasons, sure, but still, it’s nice seeing the cast together again. I’ll give them that, I’m actually pretty excited to see where this goes.

And yeah, ending the episode like that, how could I not be excited lol. The jokes are still landing too, so at least that hasn’t changed. With everyone in one place, it might fix my biggest issue with Season 4, which felt way too bloated from rushing and having everyone scattered all over. Here, things feel more focused, so that's really great and nice to see.

Rushing is probably still going to happen, but as long as they stick the landing, I’m fine seeing this through to the end. Very hina start, all things considered.

Close to 8 years since mangaka Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy began in the anime scene, seeing its final chapter come now has been quite the dream since its beginnings. Hinna hinna!

FYI, if you've not caught up with the Sapporo Beer Koujou arc's 2-parter movie, you don't need to watch those as content will be covered here in Season 5.

Sugimoto, Asirpa and gang are back to finding the final puzzle of the tattooed prisoners not found yet, and one of them being chased by Ushiyama, which Hijikata immediately sense treasure coming for him, and Ogata being vastly different than he was. The most important though, is Hijikata's word to Asirpa about where the final treasure lies, and that this has been quite the adventure that everyone is killing each other for, though the incomplete puzzle has quite the surprise in store for them.

The information so far for Asirpa, as Hijikata warns her of the implications of finding the illusive treasure, in the face of Commander Tsurumi racing for that information against them, it's a pressing decision. Even worse, with intel scarce and informative that even the gang has to wear disguises in order not to get found, secrecy is critical, such as with Nikaidou targeting Takuboku Ishikawa for information that can be found at the Sapporo Beer Koujou, for the next tattooed prisoner.

The final chapter of the juggernaut series, I'm here for the finale run!

Great to have this back after over 3 years. Don't quite remember all the stuff that happened last time but yeah, that doesn't quite hamper the experience in any way.

I just hope we'd not have the repeat of those delays and everything we went through last time. I mean this is the final season.. can't exactly drop the ball in that regard.

Apparently the first couple of episodes will cover the movie.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WATCH THE MOVIE

Last season ended in the middle of chapter 244, this season picked up from it.

Peak is back on the menu. Honestly didn't feel like 3 years, but anyway, glad and at the same time sad that this is the last Golden Kamuy Monday.

Among all the crazy convicts we've seen, Ueji is definitely one of the worse ones. They censored the scene with the boy by cutting some graphic stuff(the anime doesn't continue the animal cruelty trend).

The strangling part was a lot more fucked up in the manga.

Ushiyama coming to the rescue really cements why he is one of my favorite characters. Hilarious, badas, diplomatic, nice to children, yet can get distracted by the chance to catch a glimpse of saggy tits.

Love to see the squad being together again.

In a typical fashion, Golden Kamuy wastes no time to throw me into a middle of the chaos without caring if I can remember what happen 3 years ago or not. Luckily I like it that way.

I like when everyone working together towards one goal, in this case, a Jack-the-ripper copycat, as everyone realized that a mindless killing is bad to all kind of societies.

Back and right into it. Gotta say the first half of the episode was real fast paced and ruined the tension of the groups reunion.

Second half tho was solid except a bit hard to remember everything that happened .

Were the manga chapters or movie this disjointed? They just blew through everything.

The animation quality is back to season 3 levels which is nice and the plot still makes sense even when it's rushed and we don't get to see our faves revel in being crazy. Like Ogata being Ogata. Man I miss villains like that guy, it's good to have him back sowing chaos. I really want this season to not be a cliff notes version of the manga.

We already had a few situations were all the parties are in play. I'm looking forward to seeing the next twist in the search for the gold.

They skipped a few panels/pages. With the amount of chapters remaining( around 70) they can't take it slowly if they want to adapt everything in one cour.

Yeah, this literally picked up from where S4 ended and that works perfect for me, lmao. Jack the Ripper's crime scene perfectly matching the layout of Sapporo's city map? I'd a feeling it was going to come down to some form of re-creation but this was certainly interesting. Guess it's a little too much for the sperm trails to follow xD. Didn't think the reporter would be able to make it but the wish to bang the Oiran makes it completely understandable.

Who was that behind Ogata though? His mind playing games with him is my best bet but let's see. He was certainly going to rile things up like crazy, lol. Any moment now and Tsurumi-taichou will be at the site in person, and I've a feeling we'll be getting that before the climax of this season. Haven't seen any PV or promotional materials for this season yet and I think I'll stick with that, just in case.

Pretty cool Op in the end there, I'm curious about the visuals too. Some collaboration we've got here!

@FMmatron Thanks for the response. I saw a few people including you point out there are likely too many pages to give this property the adaption it deserves. But I'm currently on the side of beggars can't be choosers. I'm still hoping this is an SnK situation and the "final" season actually has a few more seasons after that.

So, having watched the episode, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the prologue movies are required viewing (annoyingly as they’re not available outside of Japan yet) and we know this because at the end of Season 4, Sugimoto and Asiripa hadn’t made it to Sapporo yet nor did they know about the serial killings.
I also found that the episode seemed to be missing chunks as in it jumps around randomly from scene to scene.

Yes, the anime did skip some pages/panels, but Sugimoto and Asirpa being suddenly in Sapporo happened like that in the manga. Final episode of last season adapted chapter 242(last time we saw Sugimoto and co.), 243 and the beginning of 244. This season picked up from 244 again. Chapter 245 was when Ushiyama ran into Sugimoto and the Co. like seen in this episode.

Oh man, Brain Base did it again. Strange pacing, below average directing (is it really the same guy who did a great job on d-frag?), horrendous art (at some shots) and almost non-existent fluid animations. Sadly, Golden Kamuy didn’t get lucky with its production.

Anyway, bad things aside, it’s great to be back. Strangely enough, my fav seasons were 1 and 4, so I really hope the story will end with the bang (well, in our case it will be a «slide-show» bang, but still).

Good to have Golden Kamuy back with its final season. Geno Studio got some criticism for how it handled the series early on but I felt like they mostly found their groove towards the end of season 1 till the end. Not perfect but solid for me to enjoy it. Brain's Base after season 4 and this start still feels like they haven't quite gotten into the groove yet. Some weird shots were there (the scene with Ushiyama chasing with the door he ripped out stood out looking as awkward as CG bears from season 1), and others looked a little lifeless at times. But at least it was cool seeing Hijikata's crew and Asirpa/Sugimoto and their group reunite in Sapporo as the season is heading to the conclusion of the manga. Ogata's here, Tsurumi's on the way, Jack the Ripper recreation cases happening, just tons going on to build to this season. Even with some complaints, this should be a relatively solid season.

I found the art a bit strange, but there's so much time since I watched season 4 that I don't know if I'm wrong or right.

For what matter, I had a good laugh watching this today. Weird reunion with lots of chaos happening.

After the biggest gap between seasons (two and a half years), we are finally back with Golden Kamuy’s 5th season, which is also the final chapter, and it really feels crazy to type that because I’ve been following this since it began in Spring 2018, it’s one of the first weekly seasonal anime I ever watched too, so it is indeed a very special series to me. And in preparation for this season, I did a full rewatch beforehand, so you bet I’m more hyped than ever to see how this grand journey ends, it’ll be sad to have no more after this but I feel ready to see the climax (no, not you Usami lol).

And this episode picks right up where we left off with little to no recap, just how I like it, and yeah apparently those movies are in this season after all, which is good because you still can’t find them lol. Ueji’s encounter with Ushiyama was a very intense one, there’s no telling how many kids this sick bastard has killed before now but I’m glad Ushiyama stepped in to save this one, he gave Ueji what he deserves but he unfortunately got away after the run-in with Sugimoto’s group, and it was here we got a very cool brief fight between Sugimoto and Hijikata, which turned into Ushiyama taking on Sugimoto instead soon after. Sugimoto handled himself well there but it’s good the groups reached a truce for now, because as much as I hate to admit it, Hijikata’s goal is probably the less bad one to come to fruition compared to Tsurumi’s. Then there was the scene with Asirpa examining the tattoos, and we got some very interesting reveals here, the biggest being that Tsurumi mixed in some real tattoos with the fake ones, so the fakes ended up being effective after all, to think all that went down with Edogai at the beginning of Season 2 would be relevant here near the end, I’ll never forget that wild fella lol. But man it was tough seeing Asirpa uncertain after she thought she knew how to crack the code, she’s most likely right but this is definitely messing with her. And lastly was the stuff with Ishikawa the reporter, he was a lucky mf to escape Usami the way he did, and now the gang knows where the last murder will occur, so it’s a beer factory huh, I can see how things may get crazy at a place like that, I can’t wait to see just how crazy it gets lol.

And looks like they did what Seasons 1-3 did with the OP by having it as a credits crawl at the end of the first episode, Season 4 broke that tradition so it’s nice to see it again. Song was cool but idk if I like it more than any of the others yet, gonna have to see the visuals and give it a few more listens to truly compare, cool that ALI returned for it tho, along with Awich who I’ve never heard of before. And with this beefy post out of the way, here’s to one last ride with Golden Kamuy if this is truly the end!

I wasn't the only one who was unsure if the movie was a separate thing from this final season, but at least that confusion has been cleared up!

The wait has been longer than normal, but I'm happy to see Golden Kamuy back once again for its final season. It didn't waste time getting straight into the thick of it with the plot, the action and the outlandish humour that I know and love from this series. The animation is fine, although the visuals do look better than the previous season. However, I don't see every episode staying to that standard.

The new song from Ali and Awich (Good thing I'm watching Shangri-La Frontier, so her vocals were very recognisable) sounds pretty cool. I look forward to seeing what the visuals look like that'll go with the song in the next episode.

Glad to have this back. But, hey, I can't remember this show being this ugly! Everything looks janky in this episode, from the character design to the animation. Asirpa, for example, seems to have a different height in each scene, and Hejikita's head was distractingly small during most of the episode.
