Yamada just feels like the most casual guy in this show. Like, anywhere he goes, he's just being himself and not stressed about anything.

Kinda in contrast with Miyu who gets involved with other people's lives and gets stressed herself. Nishi should also try to be less blushy around Yamada. Funny episode.

I been telling y’all for weeks this Nishi x Yamada side ship is quickly becoming my fave part of the series and they finally gave us an episode dedicated to these two cuties! Yamada more or less telling Nishi he likes her as she is is sooo cute!! This was just nonstop diabetes from beginning to end.

The strength of this series really lies in how every single member of the cast feels like they’re part of the narrative. It’s so rare for an anime to actually feel like you’re watching a group of high school friends hang out, but that’s what this show is. Minor details like the way Miyu makes sure Taira knows that she and Tani still appreciate his company and like hanging out with him even if he’s third wheeling is just so sweet! Or Nishi getting advice from her best friend, Tani getting advice about Miyu being jealous from Taira.. it’s just a bunch of kids trying to figure this whole dating thing out!

Miyu’s actually the best wing man too for peeping how Nishi and Yamda feel and trying to help them get closer lol! She’s a romance merchant just like me.

Nishi trying to put a title on what she’s feeling.. girl you’re in love! But you can see how much she’s grown in just a couple episodes. She couldn’t hold any sort of convos with strangers just two weeks ago and now thanks to Yamada making her feel comfortable, she’s got so much better. She still gets nervous obviously, but she’s coming a long and coming out her shell. Every introvert needs that one extrovert who can bring conversation out of us lol. They’re also a nice parallel to Tani and Miyu as we see Nishi and Tani literally having identical thoughts at one point in the episode!

I think the reason this show works so well is it’s the polar opposite of Horimiya:
In Horimiya, once the main relationship developed up to a point (deliberately being vague to avoid spoilers), there was nowhere for the story to go and the supporting characters weren’t likable or interesting enough to carry the rest of the show.
But with this show, the show is fun and you can invest in the supporting characters alongside the main couple.

It's almost as if Taira is the true protagonist of this anime, which would also be quite interesting, we already explore his thought process very deep anyway.

We got the title drop joke, nice!

Good follow up and build up of the second pair of the show. The music timing is impeccable and also has a nice build up to it. The OST is so funky and works well with the pure randomness and cuteness this show has.

The double stack misunderstanding has also a good bit. Quality overall is still top notch for a romcom, nothing bad to yap about.

Depending on how the 3rd power couple goes, this is still an easily 100/10 purity testing *cough* *cough* show for me.

DOKIDOKI EPISODE, this is my top 3 favorite episodes.

So far, my favorite character is Taira. Obviously, the biggest reason is that I can relate to Taira in many ways. I really want to see more flashbacks of Taira and Azuma's junior high school days. Taira's smile made me feel relieved to see that he is able to enjoy himself at his current school.

YAMADAxNISHI BEST COUPLEEEEEEEE. Even though Nishi still can't face Yamada directly, at least in the end she got the closure she wanted.

Hon-chan will definitely get my vote for best supporting character this season. And maybe even the prettiest character in this anime.

Seeing Tani conflicted about whether he should be happy that Suzuki is jealous or not is so funny lol. And all that overthinking ends with it all just being a misunderstanding.

Man, this anime is so sweet, it's going to give me diabetes.

Like seriously, the whole relationship between Nishi not knowing how she feels around Yamada and slowly falling for him while Yamada is very direct and wants to talk to her more is so pure. On the other side Taira is such a funny pesimistic dude. The guy emanates this kind of ironic nihilism where nothing works for him but at the same time is able to crack up those around him and he knows that. Also, Suzuki figuring out Nishi and Yamada's relationship will make the sequence all the more interesting.

What a good way to start every Sunday.

@phantomfandom This is what I feel too! Taira is so much the archtype of a typical romance anime protagonist but as a side character it's really fun to watch. Just like in other shows how the reserved overthinking doom and gloom guy opens up to the friend group slowly, it's really fun to watch it from outside rather the usual pov story telling angle.

Natsumi and Kentarou easily have the best dynamic in the anime so far its so unbelievably cute and honestly way more interesting then Miyu and Yuusuke's relationship. Though honestly this anime does character interactions a lot better than most romance I've watched

It's a Nishi episode!! This anime is another one for the list of those where a 2nd couple relationship gets more interesting than the main one (even a strong one like Tani and Suzuki).

Speaking of her, Suzuki's reaction in the episode left most of us feeling like this:

Now, I want to know Taira's story. That thought he had was revealing.

Also, Honda watching Nishi being so in love but not knowing what that is (and then putting that dehydrated face when listening to Nishi). That's us, getting little scraps of romcom goodness on every episode.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Don't worry, Ricchan. You'll start to miss high school too when you graduate from it. Though I kinda get what he's saying. I remember my earlier school years way more fondly than the later ones.

"You and I are polar opposites?" That's not what he says in Japanese... It's like the translator deliberately went with the show title cause they thought it was funny, which just makes it weird.

Yamada thinks he's heading towards falling in love. Nishi isn't sure why her heart pounds when she's with Yamada. Yup. These two are made for each other. It's funny. At this point, I'm way more invested in Nishi and Yamada's love story than Tani and Suzuki's. And Nishi is so cute. She makes your heart melt.

After all the things that happened, it'd be weird if Suzuki became the jealous girlfriend now. I knew it was a misdirection. But it was funny that Tani thought she was jealous. He's not flawless after all. Anyway, I love that Suzuki was a wingwoman for Yamada. So was Nishi's friend. They're great.

Everything about Taira is also interesting. Like others said if this were another romcom he'd probably be the protagonist. So this is a pretty unique approach. His backstory would probably explain why he's so pedantic too. I think he'd eventually pair up with Azuma but I'm not sure how that'd work. It's probably gonna take a while if that's the case which I'd love to see.

Interesting to see some liking the Nishi and Yamada pairing more than the main couple, maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to have Suzuki and Tani get together so quickly lol. That aside, this was a really good mostly Nishi focused episode, I said it last week too but I just keep finding more reasons to relate to her, this time it was because of her overthinking and worrying about things that aren’t real or haven’t happened, and man Honda put it perfectly, “If you’re going to be bothered by something, better reality than what-ifs”, that is so true, I really want to adopt that mindset.

And regarding Nishi’s progression with Yamada, it’s been very very sweet so far. Nishi wasn’t certain that it was because it was Yamada that her heart was beating fast or if it was the situation, but I think it’s clear after seeing this episode play out that she super likes him, you don’t just full-bore sprint away at the sight of someone and it not mean something lol. And I’m glad Suzuki realized what was going on and decided to be the plug for Nishi by keeping Yamada at school after the library shift was over, Suzuki definitely gave off sus vibes which of course got Tani worried, but it turned out to just be her being a detective so she can set up Nishi and Yamada with certainty, I thought that was pretty clever how they did that and then revealed Suzuki’s inner thoughts at the end, it made for a fun little misunderstanding. Also, playing with bubbles in high school huh, I guess one can enjoy them no matter where you are in life lol.

Watching Nishi become more comfortable opening up to the group is so heartwarming, I have no doubt that Nishi and Yamada will be a couple within the next 2 eps things are unfolding.

Taira lowk stealing the show as well. His smile after Suzuki said they go to the convenience store when he's there cuz it more fun T-T

Yamada is really pushing it close to the finish line huh!!! Taira keep up!
As if the main couple is not enough to give me diabetes, the side couples keep adding more sweets /

Always love the doom and gloom characters that are somewhat fun to be around (Taira)

Suzuki was crazy for that– insane wingwoman move! –maybe use a brighter face when asking Tani next time though because her serious face is genuinely scary haha.

We are finally in my favorite couple arc of the series: Natsumi & Yamada. Yamada is one of the best depictions of a gyaruo that we have seen in anime in quite some time. Tani got gaslit by Taira the hater and was spiraling for no reason lol. As usual, this one the ultra-rare anime wher I don't skip the opening or ending sequences.

This show is amazing not because of the plot, romance, dialogue, animation, but it’s 100% carried by the characters. How each character is written and their dynamics with one another. Everyone feels ALIVE and it automatically makes the show itself alive. The author literally milks every character and I just adore most of them (the weakest characters are probably Nabe and the short hair but it’s probably cuz they have no screentime and their personality adds nothing to the story).

Even if the show itself is simple and plot is nothing groundbreaking, but if the show has more than 5 amazing dynamic characters, then that itself carries the show.

It’s similar situation with a manhwa I recently read. The plot is generic, nothing new, the setting and genre screams action but every chapter is pure dialogue, talking, and no action. You might think “then it’s philosophical coded or the dialogue is heavy”, NO ITS NOT the dialogues are not on that high of a level. Then why is it good? The characters obv, they are masterfully written. All of them feel alive and the dynamics and chemistry they have (not only with the MC) is incredible.

Same situation with this anime, the weight characters have in a story is as big as the plot itself.

How early does this anime come out?? 3am CST?

I really love that Tani fully trusts Suzuki. Its really refreshing to see this, especially in anime where conflicts spawns from nowhere lol

I loove Yamada, he's so fucking cute and honest with his feelings. I love how thoughtful he is with Nishi, Yamada is literally perfect for Nishi. Nishi at the staircase being conflicted on whether or not to say hi, was extremely relatable. Hon is so fucking funny bro. She literally imagined an anime character 💀

Tani should've know that Taira is the last person to go to for advice 😭 Then both Nishi and Tani were sulking in their own misery. The lack of communication is frustrating. Not the ditzy girl saying, Yamada is working really hard for some reason

I'm so sad we only have 5 episodes left ;-;

Pretty good. We are now in the territory of having the side characters get together/develop since the main couple are there already and the series is still maintaining its rhythm and momentum. It helps that the characters in the series have been the strength for the show to help it sustain compared to other series I've come across like Horimiya. Suzuki being the ultimate wingwoman to support a romance she detected with her intuition and 'detective' skills (which the frame of her with the magnifying glass only serving as a teaser for what was to come) was fun to watch. Nishi is obviously growing as a character and opening up, which feels good to watch as someone who has repeatedly been in her kind of situation as the observer who struggled to immediately make friends and be open from the start.

Probably one of the best episodes of this anime. The relationship of Yamada x Nishi is really cute and wholesome, I love them. I kinda feel bad for Taira but it was good seeing him smile. Jealous Suzuki was interesting to see but knowing it wasn't because of that was surprinsing and for how Tani was reflecting about it a lot, still, Taira gave him a good advice for not being a very romantic person.

The shojo is strong with this one. Yep Yamada and Suzuki both being extroverts who can see the big picture is a big help to Nishi and Tani.

Really like how Tani and Nishi were both so concerned about their thoughts, we avoided some fake conflict. Suzuki pushing her agenda masterfully 👩‍🍳

Also middle school friend guy in dub was pretty funny here 🤣
