Those bunny ears and outfits lol

I can't help but find this episode slightly amusing with that look. This was still part of the death games, so the stakes are there. I have to say though, Yuuki adapts well at whatever change is in her environment. Impressive even.

Yes, I assure you it’s essential for the girls to wear Bunny girl suits in a death game ๐Ÿคฃ I like how there’s an actual in universe logical explanation since they’re broken into teams with the bunnies being hunted by stumps.

We’re finally at the legendary candle woods game. I’m a little confused by the timeline here, this presumably takes place very early in Yuki’s game career right? They’ve dropped some references throughout the series about how pivotal this game was in her development so I’m excited to see that play out. That said, her mentor is definitely a goner right? So many death flags. Saying she only has 4 games to go and wanted to choose wisely, everyone calling her the best game player, the way she invites Yuki to reflect on her journey and why she’s playing the games, etc. I just know it’s gonna break me.

The direction is always amazing in this show, but I think I just clocked what really makes it special. It’s the music, or lacktherof in so many big scenes. For example, Yuki talking to her mentor. Silence and the lack of stimulation force us to confront our own fears and insecurities which is scary for so many people. Making scenes like this so much more poignant and terrifying. It’s not having any musical cues as to what comes next, just ambient noise.

On the other side, we’ve got Moegi who feels like a mix of Mishiro and Yuki to me and is basically playing the leader role for the stumps. The way she had ol girl open her mouth just to blow her brains out is NUTS. This story doesn’t shy away from very dark stuff. But even Moegi is clearly battling a lot of demons.. ah I’m so excited for next episode, I feel like it’s going to be one of the best of the year.

I can't bring myself to dislike Moegi for doing all that since it's technically for the benefit of the whole team but damn, making an ally a practice dummy so everyone else can steel their resolve by stabbing them twice is insane T-T

I also got confused during the end of the ep as well, wasn't sure if it was Moegi monologuing in third person or if it was someone else...

We're finally seeing how this aforementioned Candle Woods game played out. It's just conjecture, but I feel like the host of this one really had it out for pros like Yuki's mentor. Forcing them to play hide and seek against an enemy team armed with weapons? How twisted!

This game of Noobs vs Vets is already off to a brutal start. I couldn't help but grimace seeing Kabane lose her nerve like that, and for Moegi to kill her right after.

Moegi is like a wolf among sheep the way she took charge here. She's already giving me the vibe that she's meant to be a dark mirror of Yuki. With her having a mentor of her own that she wants to emulate.

I can't wait for the two of them to meet.

I was curious about Yuuki's motivation for wanting to win 99 games. However, the conversations in this episode made me realize that Yuuki isn't sure about it, which disappointed me. The first episodes were really good, but now I'm approaching the new episodes with some skepticism. Another thing I'm curious about is how all the villains are connected to each other. This is really confusing because the first villain (if we count them as villains) was Mishiro. I can completely understand that, but in the last episode, Riko was after Mishiro. Now, Moegi is after Riko. The villains chasing each other in each episode are repeating themselves, and it gives me the feeling that they don't have a deep storyline. Although the first episodes of the series were really engaging, the last episode and this one felt insufficient for me.

That was a nice build-up episode
So Yuki's mentor's goal was to set a record of 99 games played, im guessing she died before reaching that goal since that is now Yuki's goal
Moegi was brutal, but understandable because the stump team needs to kill in order to win the game
Anyone else notice how both of Yuki's eyes are blue? in present time one of her eye is grey, Im guessing she was injured in a later game and got a prosthetic
Cant wait for next week's episode!

Ah yes, now it's bunny girl outfits.

Yuki's master fine asl. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ‍๐Ÿ’จ

Damn, 96 games...

Moegi is insane, good lord.

Interesting, even Yuki doesn't know why she plays.

Who is that girl delighting in the death of another human?

The infamous battleroyale of Candle Wood starts now.

This is pretty much the game of how Yuuki got developed into an absolute beast in the death games, we got the reason of why Yuuki wants to complete 99 death games, It was due to her mentor’s words so she had her own goal to beat.

Moegi was brutal but I can’t deny her action because if you don’t train them newbies like that, the whole team will only get dominated by the more manpower, experienced rabbits. I can see the character development going for Moegi
and the end of the episode was eerie, the girl who played with blood and organs sort of inspired Moegi to be a tougher person in the death game I guess.

The game inside out is interesting and bunny suit is a plus for me.

So, ig Moegi tormented one of the girl (and felt no remorse whatsoever) in the team and asked the other to torture her to death, because she wants to act tuff like that christmas girl in the past game?

Also I don't get her logic. She justified trying to kill 2 of her teammates since the bunny team is fighting back against them and she wanted to make them stronger by practicing on the screaming girl? But killing them also means the bunny's survival rate increase by hiding since there will be less ppl seeking them, no?

So uuh first thoughts on probably the most hyped up game, its a little hard to take seriously when the survivors are wearing bunny outfits. Funnily enough when they were wearing maid outfits or just towels I could take the games a lot more seriously.

Secondly im kinda underwhelmed by how simple "Candle woods" is turning out to be, its honestly not that much different from the last game. Its more or less just a glorified team deathmatch. I mean yeah the bunny's are meant to hide but like Moegi literally said their gonna try survive and retaliate.

But I think what will make or break this game is the players really, alone the dynamic of the hunters being newbies when the survivors are all veterans for the most part is a interesting dynamic alone. But idk so far this is a little underwhelming but I mean the games technically not even started yet so I'll leave my real thoughts for once were deeper into it.

So I suppose based off this episode Yuuki's goal is to make a new record kinda a random goal imo. Yuuki's mentor is quite something though, considering this is one of the early games for Yuuki and supposedly this game is quite something given its reputation its surprising Yuuki even lives this. But idk I get the feeling either plot armour or Yuuki's mentor will be the reason she makes it out of this.

I also noticed both Yuuki's eyes are blue this episode, so ima assume she gets her eye stabbed out this game. Interesting I kinda just assumed she was born with heterochromia.

Other than all of that so far I can say not much for the game itself. But I like Moegi

It's quite simple logic, all the people in moegi team are newbies who have zero experience in killing. She is disposing any that are mentally weak because killing them before the game is better than then letting them die in the game with weapons ending up with the opponent

Much better episode start than the last arc. Also, kinda sucks that 7 out of 11 episodes are just battle royales... Would've preferred to have them adapt more like SAW games like we had the first hour long episode, but nevertheless this shit is still a death game, a 1 week long one.

This shit sounds simple but it has a hint of depth to it, like you have to avoid being killed by the enemy stomps team while also trying not to die of hunger or dehydration, for 1 week. 300 bunnies and around 20 stomps??? if I numbered them correctly... So most likely only like 100 can escape... So the real game begins when the bunnies are going to start killing each other... I also smell that our MC is going to kill her master or some shit because she's not fully in the game yet; she looks way too distracted and tries way too hard to impress her master; and so most likely this game is her wake up call to reality...

With all that said and done, this might be my second favorite arc if they don't fuck it like the piss bath game last arc, my nr.1 still being the arc from the first episode. Imagine if this shit was more like an OVA and these episodes were all like 50 minutes long but came out once every 2 weeks or month... Would've been a glorious wet dream, but that will never happen in this day and age which its sad.

I still really like show a ton, with its many faults and all bs sometimes, so unless they throw this last seed, it stays at a mid 10 for me. Also this shit is never getting a second season lol.

Ok so this is the Candle Woods, the infamous game mentioned before that Yuki is the survivor of, so i predict her mentor will die and that's why Yuki's goal is 99 games, it's probably gonna be a massacre huh

Also, damn did that girl just gut someone, remove their organs and spray their blood into the air with sparkling eyes? I find gore and insane killers like this extremely boring and uninspired most of the time but let's see where they will take it

Definitely a better start to the arc then the previous one. Overall an 8/10 for me. Kinda not happy that it’s just another battle royale however there are still 3 episodes left so I presume it’s going to at least be more in-depth than the previous one. Bunny costumes is certainly a choice but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt as i love the styling of this series.

I’m personally a fan of how this series uses long lingering shots. I think it’s a nice switch up from how overly uninventive most anime’s are in this aspect. However I feel some of the lingering shots in this episode were a bit too long. It would work better if the episodes were longer as lingering shots set tone and help with immersion. But by the time that has happened the episode is already over. Most anime’s being limited to 24 minute episodes really just sucks imo. I know why it’s like this but that doesn’t stop me from hating it. One of the reasons ep 1 was so good was because its length allowed for its the creative decisions to work better and take effect.

As much as I like this series it makes me mad because of how much better it could’ve been without any complex changes to what we already have. But once more it’s still got 3 eps so I’m going to hold out hope they are going to be really good. Especially considering the hype this arc has got. 3 episodes sometimes is really all it takes for a show to go from good to great. Either way I’ll be picking up the LN after this is over because this is probably the most obvious 1 season then abandoned anime ever.

BUNNY OUTFITSSSS RAHHHH, best game so far.

PEAK Set-up episode for the opening of the 9th game: Candle Woods. The game that many people have been anticipating. Candle Woods has been mentioned several times in previous episodes, and the hype I imagined was paid off by this episode.

HAKUSHIIIII. Woah, I didn't expect him to play in Candle Woods too. Seeing so many veterans who have reached 90+ games makes Candle Woods much more interesting than before. My expectations are high for this episode, hopefully the execution will be satisfying.

I don't know what's going on in Moegi's head, but somehow her character is far more terrifying than Mishiro and Riko.

It's clear that this game is what completely changed Yuki's identity. Her eyes are the same, she still has a more genuine smile, she's still very dependent on others, and her cold, ghostly aura is not visible.

Junichi Matsumoto, you're the best. Souta Ueno, you're my favorite.

@RealNath pretty good investment if you ask me, sacrificing a few so the newbies gets mentally and emotionally prepared, coz if they start without this initiation, this team is done

also the manga showed Moegi's internal monologue and her thinking is pretty much what I said, this anime version is so bad, this entire adaptation is bad, I heard the manga is more faithful to the LN

Good episode. Yuki's mentor is a baddie and completed 95 games, maybe she died in this one or something cuz Yuki still hasn't decided her goal of beating 99 games till this point.
Interesting setup they made amateurs the killers and experienced ones the prey but Moegi has decided to train them.

Her way is brutal, sacrificing ur own teammates in order to practice. But its necessary for the other first timers to become brutal killers and win.
Even tho by killing two of them she increased winrate of the Bunnies. But yeah ig 5 experienced players are better than 10 inexperienced ones.

She seems to be inspired by some other girl to become a ruthless player.

Excited for the most hyped up game.

Finally Candle Woods! Really curious what happened here and wow, it's already crazy from that start..

I just spotted a cute design from the stumps team and the next time she was shown, she's lying on the ground as a sacrifice to steel the newbies' minds. I do like Moegi– she's pretty interesting, she's doing what is necessary to win the game even if the guilt is eating on her.

@el_morris Given the artistic design/direction I'm hoping this is more a commentary of the commodification of women than fan service. Although the fetishy nature of the outfits so far (maids, bunnies, towels and "pure" white dresses) are as much for the fictional viewers as the real ones. Its telling that the games are just for women, but I'm curious about the in-setting justification.

@Haunt88 You’re probably right. But I personally like the use of still shots and frames, especially in low-budget shows like this. I’d prefer watching a single frame for a minute rather than some badly animated scene with a ton of useless information. That’s what made the previous director’s work look so good, and this one is no exception either.

Interesting (and sexy) that Yuki and her mentor have bunny outfits on and they appear to have a new rival in Moegi. Since this is an early game for Yuki it is obvious that she will come out victorious and we'll see how that plays out; I have a feeling that her mentor won't make which will cause Yuki to take on the goal of beating 99 (or was it 100?) games.
