Definitely a lot different from the manga, since I read it first, but there's still a lot of characters you find in the anime that you've come to love from the manga.

Damnit! Don't die without my permission!

Yep, a lot is different. But it is refreshing to Keitaro getting into misunderstandings again.

Haha yes :)
It was a good episode in that it established that Keitaro was a dreamer, he was trying to fulfill a promise, and that he wasn't all that bad of a guy [hence what went on with the girl with the blue hair he drew the picture of]. Not to mention it kind of recognized that Keitaro's a wimp.. xD

Okay, the first episode was pretty cool. I like the fact that she lied for him, it shows that a relationship might develop between the 2.

I haven't really decided yet how I feel about this show. There were a few moments that made me crack a smile, so we'll see how it goes.

A weak start for me, in comparison to the manga at least.

A few chuckles, but nothing more.

Quite a nice start I must say, the pace is a bit on the slower side but well let's see what the story has to offer and if he'll find his childhood girlfriend or not!

Watching this again after a few years (BD quality) only to find a funny mistake in the first episode. Around 00:14:10 when Keitarou is introduced by Haruka (on the couch) then the camera slides towards Naru. Only to notice that Naru's body is missing/clipped from the chest down >,< http://gfycat.com/WeightyBrightHoatzin

At last I got round to seeing this after hearing about it ages ago. I managed to get an almost full set of DVDs cheap at a charity auction a few weeks ago, but only just got round to watching any,

I wasn't disappointed, it's just the kind of screwball comedy with a hint of romance I like.

Most animes take a few episodes to settle down, so I'll see how I get on with this, hopefully well if the 1st episode in anything to do by.

First impression of the characters is positive, I like the atmosphere as well and even the comedy worked for me.

Pretty nice start.

Maybe it was pretty interesting and different when it was released in 2000 but it didn't age well 20 years later. The animation is good at least.

I particularly have a certain appreciation for older anime; often, the narrative appeals to me, especially the character design and animation. This was one of the main elements that caught my attention in Love Hina.

The opening, right at the beginning of the episode, is aesthetically enjoyable, but the music itself didn't captivate me much. However, that's something that can change with multiple listens.

From the start, there's a good level of comedy ("The only girl who liked me is one I don't even remember the name of," comical, loved it).

We follow a protagonist with a very fertile imagination (he's constantly imagining situations he wishes would happen).

I finish the first episode satisfied to find a work that transitions well between comedy and ecchi, and this ecchi is something more natural and even fun, unlike how this element is handled in more recent works. It seems that there's a magic in older anime that only now and then newer ones manage to reproduce.

In conclusion, I liked the cast of characters presented, all without exception, and the narrative of the work. Good episode!

oh, well, i'm sick of delaying until forever the rewatch of this show. Already wasted a chance in mid 2018 (a decade after the first time) after meeting again this pilot episode randomly on television, this time i know it's for real.

Keitaro is so delusional, and for something i couldn't also care less about (enrolling in a prestigious college, it's amusing that Kaolla doesn't even know what that is, "something to eat?") and could pay a little more attention to surroundings and situations to avoid a lot of troubles. However, this is still a pretty interesting introduction to series overall, can understand this kind of comedy is a hit or miss but i also remember that i found a smaller amount of characters to be unsufferable compared to most of the audience. It helps a big deal also that it has a stellar italian dub cast (Naru Narusegawa and Mitsune Konno are voiced by my two favorites in existence) so it's good to be back after all those years just to listen to them too.

Forgot how Naru accepted to keep the cover-up of Keitaro not having entered Todai (yet?), that was sweet. What i never forgot, instead, was an extremely amusing final scene when she hits him and sends him up in the sky from an impossible position for disparaging ungrateful remarks about she being hot-blooded, and Keitaro lampshades it on the spot exactly like i (and probably most of the audience) already did at the same time in 2007 or 2008. "HOW DID SHE MANAGED TO HIT ME FROM THAT FAR???" Yeah.

This was an episode that started as a DVD extra back in the day, and I felt it needed its own discussion. This episode was so beautiful, and it's a shame it's not included in the normal first season of Love Hina. It beautifully captures that some of these harem characters have real spirit and intrigue beyond being cute girls. This Motoko-centric bonus feature really hits at the complex nature of Motoko, who -like Kaolla, who's intelligent and engineerial but also playful and childlike- is multifaceted, and sometimes contradictory. Motoko may be a swordswoman on the outside, but she has a softness that makes you live the hard character all the more. No longer a terrifying, hard figure, and now a soft, youthful looking baby sister. One who is downright in terror over her sister. Here, she's just the youngest heir feeling the pressure of an entire community, not just a schoolgirl in an inexplicable harem situation.

Motoko when she's acting in loco parentis at Hinata InnMotoko when Tsuruko is in town

This episode was a beautiful moment all for Motoko, and it's sad it's not considered a natural episode of the series. Some streamers even have this episode tacked onto the end as an inexplicably placed episode 25. All this episode does is drive home that these are all teens, and even the ones who are extremely intelligent, wise, or powerful in Hinata Inn have dreams as well as nightmares facing the idea of growing up. That's what makes this show special. Moments where all characters get to be young adults while remaining young.

The sexuality of this show, which has literally more than 3 ecchi oopsie-daisies in this episode alone, (this show could just be called Accidental Pervert, I'm not even kidding.)

at times, offers the characters a moment to be both shy and flustered, kid and young adult, in a way that contributes to tipping the scale from 49% to 51% from Ecchi Bait to a real Coming of Age anime with worthwhile characters and themes. Obviously in any harem, ecchi or hentaibait show, there are obvious implications for writers creating sexual teens, and that sometimes characters are just some studio writer man's wetdream fantasy, but this show has its wholesome moments that sometimes create meaningful portraits of interesting characters.

Certifiable hood classic. One that encapsulates a lot of what's great about this show; memorable characters its easy to emotionally invest in, and being an extremely 2000s piece of heritage media. Something something, an essay in critical theory class in 10 years about the male gaze in the harem genre boom of the 2000s.

Anyway, 7/10 episode, Motoko now big anime crush of mine
