When people try to explain why they love a manga so much, you might find the usual "I love the characters", "really like the art", "world building!!". Which, by no means is a bad thing, but an element of manga that is not very commonly talked about it panelling. It's very easy to confuse composition and panelling, but hopefully this list will help you experience the true beauty of how important panel structure is to maintain consistent flow whilst reading!

Collection of boys love manga that can possibly be enjoyed even by those that don't care about or even dislike the genre in general. And you can trust me on that, because I certainly do not like the genre in general.

Not for the faint hearted. These are manga series that will put your physical and emotional endurance to test.

Content warning for most of these. Interesting manga with disturbing themes and bizarre manga that are burned into my brain.

A list of disturbing mangas where the queerness of the protagonists holds a central place in the plot, because i am personally growing increasingly frustrated and/or bored with the innocuous queer representation in utterly sterilised mainstream medias.

These queer mangas are ambivalent, some of them might deal in harmful tropes, but they are interested in queerness, and won't treat it as fragile porcelain or unstable explosive.

TW everything you can think of, like this stack is not a most-hardcore-stuff-you-can-read marathon list, but honestly the only reason it's not classified +18 is because i didn't include any Gengoroh Tagame.

A list of manga titles that I think are fucked up in some way, be it in the psychological sense or in matters of gore/violence. Each title has its own set of trigger warnings, I suggest looking them up on mangaupdates for more detailed tags.

Yet another list of "manga that's messed up in one way or another". It's subjective, of course, but the manga listed present, portray, or explore themes that you shouldn't show the kids.

NOTES:

-This list excludes torture porn the likes of Mai-Chan's Daily Life, because why poison this list with the obvious 'no duh'.

-This list contains BL/Yaoi. A lot of yaoi mangaka like to get really twisted. Something something the hearts of women.

-Some *are* horror, so 'disturbing' is expected, but those tagged as Horror really stood out to me, or are memorable in some way. We all know Junji Itou is one of the reigning kings of horror manga, so he's not included because again, obvious choices!

-This list is restricted to manga I've read or perused.

-The overall quality of the manga is not being taken into account.

-I'm not including sequels or spin-offs.

-No manwha, manhua, light novels, webcomics/webtoons will be featured.
