Favorites: 39 Resources | New Interest Stack Interest Stacks![]() ![]() Here is a list for fellow manga collectors and fans of mahou shoujo, a genre featuring many young girls receiving magical powers and (more often than not) a dress that's as cute as the aesthetic! Can be treated as a rec list for those new to the genre, as it will mainly (and primarily) feature magical girl manga you can find English copies of to read and buy today. Not meant to be a complete/definitive list. ![]() ![]() I wanted to create a list of the Shojo/Josei manga which began serializing between 1990 and 1995 that have had official publications or licenses into english. Junji Ito in particular published a huuuuge chunk of his shorter shojo horror one-shots/short stories during this early 90s period, so I've included his Soichi manga (published in Nemuki magazine) as a representative of all these short stories. Additionally, sometimes MAL lists serialization start dates which either are 1 year off of the listed start dates on japanese wikipedia or will sometimes list the English release dates instead of the Japanese release dates. ![]() ![]() If you've seen some of these series physically, you'll recognize the Viz Shojo imprint logo of a sailor-moon looking figure standing in a crescent moon on the spines. This imprint was the predecessor to the Shojo Beat imprint from Viz (whose logo is the recognizable SB on the spines of their books). Shojo Beat debuted in June 2005 as an imprint, which marked the transition away from the Viz Shojo imprint, although you'll still see the logo today on re-prints of manga like Banana Fish in bookstores. |
