This is my first time writing a review and I'm only doing it to tell yall to ignore the mal rating here, just trust me and go read this manwha

The mc is pretty good, the main side cast is goated, the secondary characters and the antagonists are really interesting, the power system is very well written, the artstyle is probably my favorite in animanga, the character designs are peak...

The only 2 things I kinda dislike is how random the powerups are sometimes and the amount of fanservice there is, other than that this is easily a 10/10. Just make sure you read it while listening ...

Mixed Feelings

Player is a serviceable manhwa, with a serviceable MC, mixed cast with mixed opinions, and genuinely good art. I'm probably in the minority when it comes to my opinion about this manhwa, since it fundamentally doesn't do anything that I'd consider objectively 'offensive.' It's a serviceable story that does what it sets to -- and it does it decently. The art's good, but I wouldn't say that anything else the story has to offer is that good.

For starters, Player suffers from the exact same syndrome something like 'Jujutsu Kaisen' has. It implements an absurd amount of ideas, and never really does anything with them ... in a meaningful way. The ranks, the guilds, and even characters like Zichmund don't really get elaborated on that much, and they just kinda linger around the place until the plot demands them to do something, which.. doesn't really benefit a series like this. A series with a large cast of characters, who I believe that deserve equal screentime. I can definitely understand why characters like Ryujin or Kim don't really get elaborated much upon, but Sumama? Basically one of the main members of the party, has almost no backstory or any meaningful fights? It kinda feels unfair to me, and this comes from someone who considers Pastis to be his favorite character in the entire manhwa.

I think that the biggest problem I have with the manhwa overall is with Heo's powercreep at one point. With Pastis, Libur, Kina and Sumama in his party, I honestly expected something among the lines of having all of his party work together in a very 'sport-like' way. You know, strategies and such. The problem here, is that Heo basically powercreeps everyone at one point? Libur and Heo are basically giant hulking fighters, so it's not surprising that I find most of their encounters to be kinda boring. Pastis and Kina to me are more interesting in a narrative sense, because they rely more on wits (especially Pastis, I think he's a delight to watch) than Karma, which is a nice sense of pace. They feel like characters straight up from Hunter x Hunter, which is where I bring up the wits comparison. Sure, you can say that this is a metafictional twist and that Heo's supposed to represented the resented readers who criticize webtoons, but like.. Still? Why would I enjoy watching a guy one-shot the second strongest character in the series (Dean), and a guy who has hyped up to be a threat who ALSO just had an entire chapter dedicated to his backstory? There's not much of a thrill here, you KNOW the results when you see them, which makes me not really care that much about the last set of chapters (239 and beyond)

Onto something else, this -- as usual of shonen tropes, has some really shoehorned romance that's not really interesting beyond the idea of 'this characters gets to pipe a female because boy x girl.' I can definitely understand Heo and Libur (which I like, they've got nice interactions), but Kina and Heo? Bibian.. and Heo? Those just feel really shoehorned in for me to care about them. Again, huge side cast of characters, and you're focusing on a kinda bland character getting all the girls because of that classic 'harem' logic. Nagi and Kim are serviceable enough, as much as I prefer Kim with Arem. Bibian's relationship with Heo is probably utter dogshit, since it's treated as if Denji genuinely vied Makima as a good romantic interest, which.. if you've read the manhwa, you probably know Bibian isn't. I think that Bibian asking Heo to forgive her is probably a bottom narrative decision that makes her come off as even more boring than she already is when taking the 'I love Heo' aspect out of her, and this comes from someone who genuinely defends Van Zichmund after the Dean fight. Any other relationship here is so bland I've probably forgotten about it (Zichmund with his Ego Weapon, Pastis and Sumama, Dean and Mary Gennos), probably done to soften the 'harem' sideplot.

Player -- at it's core, is a serviceable story that does everything right. It hits all the correct checkmarks and has cool ideas, but they never truly feel fleshed out to me. I think that Help Me Eve (which is the prequel manhwa) has a lot more soul and honesty into it. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be the korean equivalent of 'Fate/Stay Night' (Libur/Saber, Kina/Tohsaka, Zichmund/Kirei), it feels like it's trying to be it's own stupid story. Beyond offering good art and designs with a decent cast, Player is.. well, serviceable for what it is.

Imagine if you took a good manhwa like Tower of God and made it Solo Leveling, ORV, or whatever, this is basically Player.

Everything is extremely fast paced, only one thing is allowed to happen per chapter, everybody is extremely fickle and over the top. I guess it isn't the worst, it's better than a lot of throw away Isekais, but you shouldn't torture yourself with it, even if you are that bored.

The art reminded me a bit of Ember Knight which is a few leagues above this but it really doesn't make up for the story. Also the clear KonoSuba reference in the Isekai was ...
