I'll keep it short as this Manhwa is very frustrating.
It's a unique story that encompasses The MC, Rita whose reincarnated back when she was 13 living in the orphanage when the region she was living in as a genius doctor was turned upside down by a revolution and forced by the new Duke to help tend to the injured but was quickly halted by the crown prince who finds out she helped in the whole revolution by tending to injuries and put her to death.
Before that, she gets reincarnated by an old sorceress.
Now, premise wise this is an interesting story - and it was! But after
...
a couple chapter into 40-60, it began to weigh down on me the biggest flaw that honestly kept irking me whenever it was mentioned.
That being the fact that her family, namely her father is literally Infront of her and is her mentor in the ducal house. Of course I wouldn't expect either of them to know as it's not very obvious at first. As a child, the character you once had isn't the same as when you grow up, so I won't argue about their reluctance to test their DNA to find out their relation when she was 13.
However, when she turned 18, she should have grown quite a resemblance to her mentor and his late wife, being her mother of course. Even her personality was the same as her mentor as well as the genius characteristic, not to mention the striking resemblance her green eyes has to the mentor's late wife. Even multiple servants exclaimed at how similar they were, but for some odd reason, they never mentioned the possibility that they might be related.
How? I don't fucking know, maybe they didn't think much of it since for what it's worth, all they knew is that his daughter had blond hair and green eyes - as reported by a doctor. I will not hold them accountable for this, however, this cannot be said the same for Rita and her mentor. Doctors and generally scientists are known for making hypothesis and intelligent guesses even whilst the possibility of something being true is quite miniscule, such a case, they both claim to be geniuses and scientists no less, yet they never though, " It may be outlandish, but it's worth checking out just to be sure. You never know, we might be related"? It simply doesn't make sense even when you factor out the consensus that his daughter had blond hair.
In many cases, scientists will try finding the truth with what they have but also consider the latter. In this case, the latter being his daughter having brown hair and green eyes and blond hair and brown eyes. Those were the possibilities, basically 50/50. Yet after 13 years of searching with description he was given and finding absolutely fuck all, he still proceeds with the same stupid fucking method. Success is through trial and error, learning and adapting, yet he faced error but never changed his ways. It's like using a glass with a hole and drinking water, finding the whole, and repeating the same mistake. Stupid, right? Because it fucking is.
Very ironic for geniuses, no? Here's the thing, being geniuses, they should have taken all possibilities into account, even the doctors own input could be wrong. As long as they cannot find an answer with their previous way, you must adapt. He could have easily taken into consideration maybe his daughter had brown hair and maybe, just maybe questioned his apprentice, whose whole being is just a copy of him, but a girl version, as exclaimed by one of the servants in the story.
Basically, they're fucking stupid for not JUST testing the waters. If she isn't his daughter, shucks, at least we confirmed. And here's the thing, even if it's a webtoons, I've seen webtoons that are incredible without having to include stupid fucking plot devices that just incur the story. It's even worse as these characters are geniuses and are supposed to be quite keen with everything yet they ignore something as crucial as this and downplay the comments about their similarities and even from a scientist perspective, they fail at that, too.
Writing a good story without stupid impediments like this isn't hard at all. To me, this is the story's only flaw that fully bothers me to a point of no return. This is a central part of the story as it is the mission of the MC and her dad to find their family. If it is this manipulated just to lengthen the story, it's just bad writing. You can easily continue the story with them both having accomplish their goals and perhaps, finding a new goal to keep the story going. Yet, that seems to not have been the case. I'm disappointed to say the least as this Manhwa had so much potential, and while some might say I'm being dramatic, this is a deal breaker because this plot point is brought about whenever the two or their relatives interact as it's quite annoying. How can you not tell resemblance to the woman's child whom you claim to have loved, when her daughter is Infront of you, as you are distinguishing the characteristics that also made up your late friend/step daughter. It's absurd and just wilfully oblivious.
In conclusion,this story is a 5.
