This story is a hidden gem, and I was completely surprised with how good it is.
It starts with a cliche. The main character is a child, illegitimate daughter of the king, and is mistreated and despised by her own blood relatives and even the staff of the palace. One day, however, whole family is executed by an enemy country, except for her. The duke, who was in charge of the executions, is a strict follower of rules, and states that is illegal to execute someone under eighteen years old. So, the king commands him to take the kid with him as a prisioner, but is
...
adamant — she needs to be killed by the duke as soon as she reaches adulthood.
It's very funny and endearing kind of story, with the princess finally learning what is like to be a child and receiving proper care, and the duke appearing to be cold, but actually being very attentive. The duke is also married, a marriage of convenience, and the duchess has her own backstory and relevance to the plot. We can see husband and wife slowly getting closer, as well as getting closer to the prisioner princess.
This story is a fantasy, and we find out soon that the princess is very especial on her own way. There is no regression nor transmigation. The child is actually a child and act exactly like one — being smart and innocent at the same time.
I'm only at the start of the story, but I definitely recommend.
