Not a whole lot action, not a whole lot of romance, not a whole lot of cultivation, not a whole lot of… wait, why am I reading this?
Honestly, this manhwa was pretty disappointing. I found it through novelupdates, and found that it had a manhwa, so I decided to check it out. The synopsis + tags on novelupdates were also all things I would’ve and should’ve enjoyed, but the story failed in almost all aspects.
To start, the story doesn’t really progress the main character — there’s no specific mentions in the storyline besides for the beginning where the mc says something like “I need
...
to get stronger.” Then, in the next scene he’s already progressed drastically. Yes, I know there are SOME training scenes, but it’s so minor that it’s an after thought.
Also, the main character is wishy-washy. Instead of acting like he knows the future, so he needs to capitalize all opportunities + relationships, he wants to avoid them for whatever reason. It's pretty infuriating to read, as there's no mention in the story that he can't change that relationship's fate, yet he decides to act brashly.
As for the childhood friend/heroine part… she’s so bland. I thought I would have loved her, but the only thing she has for a “personality” is to be a cute glutton. As for the other heroines, they are equally bad, and their personalities were made to be so far on one side of the spectrum that it's comical. For example, does the story need an emotionless girl? You bet ur getting the least emotion from a heroine. A violent one? The most violent… and it continues until the mc's harem is built with different extreme archetypes of women.
The pacing of the story is also really slow, so there’s not much happening at once. It reminds me more of a slice of life story than anything, not a story where the world is at stake due to a demon lord. The pacing isn't horrible, but it definitely doesn't make the story exciting.
This manhwa just feels like a whole lot of nothing. Countless stories have utilized the same tropes and have made something original. This, however, doesn’t have much of its own to make it lovable.
