Synopsis

Tatsuhiko inherits his grandfather's home after his passing. It's been ages, so he heads to the old homestead for a visit. In a storage room there, he encounters a tanuki who claims to be a god. Tatsuhiko and the tanuki god repair the home together while sharing stories about his grandfather. Following this strange turn of events, the two decide to get married?!

Saneka no Yomeiri by Wataru Momose has a quirky unique premise, but doesn't rely on the premise as a crutch. It tells the story of Tatsuhiko, the grandson of Michihisa tasked with cleaning up his grandfather's affairs after his passing, and Saneka, a deity tasked with protecting Michihisa's home.

This work is really carried on the backs of the two protagonists: Tatsuhiko and Saneka, who are (unwillingly?) married. Thus begins their cohabitation, as Tatsuhiko learns more about his grandfather's life through cleaning up his grandfather's home and Saneka's memories. Saneka no Yomeiri is one of those series that pulls you in with its unique premise and keeps you hooked with its great character dynamics and lively dialogue. Even though it's a short read, it manages to balance humor, heart, and an intriguing supernatural setting really well.

One of the best things about this series is the protagonist. Unlike a lot of romance leads who get flustered over everything, he’s comparatively mature, open-minded, and actually knows how to handle himself. amongst the many manga released in 2025, saneka no yomeiri sticks out in a way that makes it hard for you to miss out on. a sweet, slow-burn romance with an eclectic mix of both modern-day and yokai elements that makes this manga a must-read this year.
