Yuri/GL set after high school.

Reviving an old blog post, I haven't kept track of all the new series, so let me know if there you have additions or spot any errors.

It's hard to find queer Manga and it's even harder to find ones with good representation.

Manga with queer themes are often extremely sexualized (yaoi and yuri for example). They often feel very disingenuous, as if the person writing the Manga has never even talked to a LGBTQIA+ person. These Manga are often written for straight audiences that just want to get off to a gay couple.

But luckily there are a few Manga that have really good representation and that are often even written by a queer person.

Here are my recommendations as a person that is also part of the LGBTQIA+ community:

Manga that feature some kind of trumpet playing! Also a few bugle ones are thrown in here for funsies.

Manga against the patriarchy.

This stack is for any manga prominently featuring sapphic characters that was published in a female-oriented manga magazine.

Note: There are plenty of sapphic shoujosei manga, this is just a small selection.

Bisexual Characters in Manga. Some are headcanons- those are indicated by question marks. Also, since LGBT vocab usually isn't used in manga, some are arguably pansexual, polysexual, or omnisexual.

These manga have serious discussion of sexual relationships and sexuality. Not just shameless smut!

Same as in the "Yuris published in France" stack, except that this one lists yuris but also more ambiguous titles where the romance is not always obvious.

I will read one manga from each year starting from 1980

Side profiles depicted within film posters often evoke a sense of loneliness, introspection, or mystery. The themes associated with such designs can vary widely, so please assume these are psychological or drama based for potential interpretations. Because a lot of these are Shoujo and Josei, existential themes might be touched upon, sexual assault being one of them; this is a reminded of importance to research trigger warnings in art.

Criteria for this list:
• No sequel series.
• Full-body and portrait shots are excluded from this list.
• Likewise, diagonal shots (Kasane) are excluded.
• Covers must depict multiple character's from the Shoulders up (ex. Bus Hashiru)
• Harsh side profile, no "SHAFT tilting" towards the viewer (ex. Girl May Kill).

Cute yuri manga that involves some lesser cute elements.

More accurately, the relationship between the two main leads is (mostly) wholesome and healthy, but they have to deal with things like domestic abuse, cheating, sexism/misogyny, homophobia/biphobia, self-harm, unrequited love, etc.
