Synopsis

Shortly before the school term is over, a peeping attempt goes wrong and results in middle school student Yuuichi Kanba reconnecting with his childhood friend Makio Fujiyama, a girl who stands taller than the rest of her classmates at 181 cm. After seeing her undress, feelings of affection begin to blossom within Kanba, despite Fujiyama being considered unattractive by both peers and passersby. Kanba asks her out on an impulse and—to his surprise—she says yes.

Through school events, fireworks festivals, and more, Kanba juggles gawking at his new girlfriend and keeping their relationship a secret. This is no easy task for the less-than-popular Kanba, as Fujiyama often draws the eyes of all around her.

Fuijyama-san wa Shishunki follows the pair as they stumble hand-in-hand through many lighthearted, comedic situations and gradually learn more about young love and each other.

The beauty of a Makoto Ojiro story, the creator of Insomniacs After School, is that she understands that romance doesn't need a grand plot to be effective. Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki is the perfect example of this. It’s a manga with no looming drama, no forced misunderstandings, and no external villains. It’s just a collection of everyday moments like a walk, a school trip or even sitting next to each other, that slowly accumulate weight until you realize you’re deeply invested in this wholesome relationship.

The premise starts in a kianda typical teenage comedy way. Our protagonist, Kanba, finds himself in a botched spying attempt at school ...

Coming from Makoto Ojiro, who wrote the masterpiece that is "Kimi wa Houkago Insomia", I expected another well-written work, and I was not disappointed.
Story: 7.5/10
It's a story about two middle schoolers falling in love, so romance isn't really over the top besides hand-holding and hugging here. The overall story feels cute and wholesome, and quite nostalgic in some parts. I feel like the author could've given a clearer ending about their future, but I don't mind this ending.
Characters: 7/10
I loved the dynamic between Fujiyama and Kanba, it feels very natural for two teenagers. Also Fujiyama's cute lol.
Art: 7.5/10
The art can be a bit choppy, but ...

I can't describe how cute and wholesome this manga really is.
The relationship between Kanba and Fujiyama is so pure and adorable, and combined with the atmosphere the manga brings, with many beautiful panels and little text that feels like a movie. This manga warmed my heart, and in some parts, it reminded me of the feeling I had when watching Boku no Kokoro.
I highly recommend this manga there you will find great characters, lighthearted story and heartwarming feelings.
8.4/10 (the author could've given us more details at the end and show what we readers are all wating, then it would've been a 9/10).
