This title offers very little of interest to any Code Geass fan. I'm a Code Geass fanatic myself and trust me, you can skip this one. There are no mechas and there is no Lelouch. CC appears here but she barely plays a role in the story. What does this story offer though?

PLOT 5/10:
The plot revolves around the conflict between main characters Renya and Dash. However anything interesting these two can offer is going to be dragged out by pointless battles against shallow villains. The story repeats a cycle of the party of characters travelling, encountering a villain, fighting them in shounen style, defeating them ... and repeat. These fights add nothing and aren't interesting by themselves. By the end of the story you are going to be teased of a more complex conflict with more parties being introduced but the execution is just more shounen fighting in the most basic way possible.

CHARACTERS 6/10:
I said the villains are shallow, actually every character is shallow. The only relevant plot is between Renya and Dash and the story fails to give the supporting cast a meaningful role in this. However, I must give them credit as they add a sort of charisma into the story, even if it is a small one. I found myself invested in their wellbeing.
I have to give a special mention to Dash. In my opinion the best written character and the only interesting part in this story. First he's surrounded in mistery but it's a treat when the story explores his background and inner conflict. It's just a dissapointment his story is diluted in an overall mediocre title.

ART 7/10:
The character desing is strong and pretty. Some of the characters are spins on original Code Geass character designs and I personally like it. Each character stands on its own. However my problem lies on the fight scenes. Maybe it's me but I find them quite messy and difficult to follow. The coreographies aren't impressive either. Other than that, the art is a treat.

OVERALL 6/10:
It doesn't really have what made Code Geass great. Only one character is interesting but his story is diluted in between pointless fights difficult to follow visually. I like the character design though.

COMEDY 7/10
The author manages to create a unique and quirky world filled with fun characters. Most of the story happens in Penguin Village, starring a cast of people each with its own set of antics. Most notably is the protagonist Arale who shares a lot of traits with kid Goku from Dragon Ball. She is just an innocent robot child that defies expectations with her inhuman capabilities. Surround her with the eccectric people from Penguin Village and you have the formula for the comedy in this manga. The comedy is very childish but creative. You can have poop jokes and then have a whole chapter ... dedicated to that poop being its own character. Personally, I found it hilarious most of the time, but it can get repetetive with 236 chapters.

PLOT ?/10
There is not much plot in this. Don't expect a complicated narrative or development. This manga is episodic and even though there is some progression with new characters and themes introduced, by the end of the story there is a lot of "plot threads" unfinished. It doesn't take itself seriously most of the time. That pretty much summarizes this title, an unserious, quirky, episodic, gag comedy manga.

ART 10/10
It's perfect. I admit there is a lot of nostalgia for me as a Dragon Ball fan. This manga presents a more round and chibi version of Toriyama's art. Each character is unique and fun. Arale especially is very cute. In the same way, the setting shares this cartoonish style making everything cohesive and just mesmerizing to look at. There are some action and sport focused chapters in here. It's no surprise that the author acomplishes a perfect execution of these scenes. The movement blends nicely with the designs of the characters.

OVERALL 7/10
If you want to turn your brain off and have a laugh while blessing your eyes with Toriyama's art. Check it out.

STORY & CHARACTERS 8/10
This is a simple yet lovely story about three main characters and the troubled dynamic between them in what is esentially a love triangle. Although the story is focused on two characters only early on, with the third character being introduced later. To describe HSG as just a love triangle story would be understatement, however. The story takes its time to develop each of our three characters individually as well as each of the dynamics between two of them, making our love triangle a web of feelings of love, rivarly and friendship.

To talk about the plot is to talk about the characters ... and their need of growth. The tension of the story comes from the different wants of the three protagonists, their struggle to express it to others and how it reflects on their relationships. This is where lies the strength of this story.

This is gag manga with quite effective and creative jokes. The comedy relies mainly on putting our male protagonist Haruo in absurd situations with goofy people in which sometimes he gets harmed either phisically or emotionally. It doesn't get to a point of inhumanly torturing the prota, just life being unfair to him from time to time. Although the story is comedic in nature, it does a good job in setting serious moments with relevance to the development of the characters. Comedy never interferes with the developing plot.

The story seems to have a loose direction at times resulting in it deviating of the plot and it extending subplots more than necessary. Some side characters could have better development. However since this is a fairly short manga spanning 10 vols it doesn't get too annoying, especially if you like both characters and comedy.

Another strong point is the whole retro-videogames/arcade theme. This a common interest relevant to our protagonists. It is what unites them and it is what drives the situations our characters get in. The plot becomes a competetive sport type of story at times. It is not the main focus and it is worked on superficially. But it serves our characters relations and development in a way that it is, nonetheless, very exciting.

ART 8/10
The art is very cartoony and it's not super detailed. It can be exaggerated to the point of being ugly for comedic purposes. However, the characters are designed in a cute way resulting in "ugly-cute" art overall. When seriousness is due, the visual element of the story serves in portraying the characters' emotions with detail. It's very distinct, unique to the author. I personally really like it.

ENJOYMENT 8/10
Loved the characters. Loved the romance. Loved the videogame theme. This is not a very complicated romance story but it is filled with both wholesome and heartbreaking moments. It is neither too long nor too short, reaching a well made conclusion when it needed to. Loved it overall.
